Sengoku Dynasty – Going Unreal Engine 5!

Youkoso!

You may have been wondering which engine we used to develop Sengoku Dynasty.

Initially, we started with Unreal Engine 4, even though Unreal Engine 5 was on the horizon. We were excited about the new changes, as was anyone with an interest in game development. However, from a technical and business standpoint, it was too early for us to switch, so we decided to stick with UE4…

…but that's not where the story ends! In December 2022, with the implementation of UE5.1, we finally felt that there was enough incentive in the new possibilities, as well as stability in the engine. So now, we can proudly say that we are officially a UE5 game, and one of the first to hit Steam very soon!

Attached are some screenshots taken from the game to whet your appetite. Stay tuned for more exciting materials coming soon!

Sengoku Dynasty - The Emperor's Birthday

Youkoso!

Today is the Emperor’s Birthday. Tennō tanjōbi, as it is called in Japan, is an annual holiday celebrating the birthday of the reigning Emperor. The best place to celebrate is the Tokyo Imperial Palace, where the Emperor and Empress greets the gathered members of public from the balcony.

Did you know that the imperial family is probably the longest-running royal family in the world, spanning more than 1,500 years?

The latest issue of the Scrolls of Sengoku Dynasty is out!

Youkoso!

Another scroll has arrived in the valley, spreading word of the Sengoku era!

This time in the Sengoku scrolls:

Probably the most important weapon of all in medieval Japan: cheap, effective, and always available - spears (yari). By now, the developers know which spears are to be included in the game and how you can stab someone in and with style.

Let's stay with the weapons and move on to the Japanese longbow (yumi). This bow - compared to its European counterpart - is unusually shaped, the grip is positioned rather low, but there's a theory to explain why this is the case.

Finally, this little preview gets martial once more. You can find out what's behind the onna-bugeisha in the new edition.

Sounds interesting, doesn't it? Then get the latest Sengoku script quickly!

Sengoku Dynasty - The Fifth Insider Video

Youkoso!

Clang, clang, crunch, scratch! We don't just play and watch games, we also listen keenly. In quite a few genres, such as horror or science fiction, sound effects are crucial parts of the gaming experience. Sengoku Dynasty lets you listen as well!

Today's fifth Insider Video is all about sound.

Great and appealing visuals in games are important, but it's the sound design that makes a game believable, authentic and realistic. A real world like medieval Japan, that comes with a fictional narrative, needs a realistic representation of the environment and all the objects that should or can be used in it.

To achieve this, sound designers are needed, and today Agnieszka from Superkami answers a few questions about how the world of Sengoku Dynasty will sound!

Now that you've heard a bit of Sengoku Dynasty, what sound - apart from the drawing of a katana - do you think belongs in this world? Tell us in the comments or on our social media channels!

Sengoku Dynasty - The Fourth Insider Video

Youkoso!

We know you've been waiting impatiently for this! The new insider video takes you into the world of crafting.

Our developer team has delved deep into the matter and looked at how craftsmen of the Japanese Middle Ages mastered their craft. Instead of gathering a lot of obscure materials, you will acquire more sophisticated and complex knowledge of manufacturing.

You will be able to create common objects and decorative items that have both a use in the game and fit aesthetically into the overall picture.

Most important for most of you: building! You will be able to construct a number of buildings: Huts, houses, shrines, watchtowers and much more. In addition, there are the special projects. These are large structures such as bridges or large watchtowers.

Are your fingers already tingling? Then take a quick look at the insider video!
