Update: Golden Goals

Ahoy! Welcome to 1.01.00. The game has come a long way since launch, and the changes today are significant enough to mark this as the first major numbered updated. That's right, we're going up a decimal point!

Changes:
  • Added the Golden Goal system and associated quests.


    This is a major addition to how you can approach the shop.
    Becoming available very early, Golden Goals offer rewards that can scale infinitely, though they will start small and have to be grown through use.
    When you complete a goal you will be offered a limited choice of rewards.
    Some give immediate benefits, such as gaining coin and XP.
    But others are permanent multipliers that make the other rewards greater.
    I'm sure you'll find interesting ways to put this system to use.

  • Added a townhouse interior in The Capital.
  • Replaced the sound the Fake Prince makes when entering the store (no more sad trumpet).
  • Changed the graphic for Wax and Fire in Minto's Hoard.
  • Added a new lategame customer, Patron.


    When this customer enters the store a name is displayed above their head.
    The name changes to the next one in a list each time they enter.
    Supporters on Patreon can opt to have a name of their choice added to this list, the game will even recognise if it matches your Steam name. (This will not offer any gameplay benefits, it is simply a thank you from me to the supporters).

  • Commodities now initialise at 10 stock instead of 0.
  • Added a notification when you walk into the shop if you've found a new cosmetic while out and about.
  • Changed the colour of the numbers in the gold hud.
  • New graphics for product and passive effect hud.



  • The D.P.A. fine now increases by 500 every time it's payed.
  • Added VFX and SFX when Cora depowers.
  • Talking to food merchants while looking for Hot Chips now has unique dialogue.
  • Added a wait frame when MassDRANK! makes purchases to reduce lag.
  • Gold hud is now always visible (previously would fade during dialogue).
  • New graphics for menus and text windows.



  • Changed text when commodities restock from 'Commodities +1' to '(icons) +1 Restock'
  • Slightly moved the Enterpriston hud images across.
  • Added new area to Tutetown.
  • The map in the Ever's Rest Inn now shows a low resolution map of part of the continent.
  • Added new apple treasure chest.
  • Owl regen text now says '+ bonus' instead of '+'
  • Added commas to Faeona's debt number.
  • Added an option to disable crit and token notifications.



  • Changed the star graphic used in the main and option menus to a Gem.
  • Fixed 'What? Seeds? Duncan!' achievement to trigger on any amount over 999 rather than just 999.
  • Added a minor reaction if trying to give Echidna a certain item when she asks for headwear.
  • Added new customers to epilogue.
  • Added a Talk option when interacting with Refrain, which will offer a hint for locations not yet found.
  • Added a new Relic Eye discoverable.
  • Added a small side quest in Enterpriston.
  • Changed the background on the title screen to be a large imposing Bureau HQ.



  • Updated several weather effects throughout the game.
  • Added subtle smog effect to Enterpriston.
  • Added sunshafts to many outdoor areas.



Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed a bug where Natures Beckon and Buyers Market could lock the game if used in the Lava Place.
  • Fixed bug causing Sense Royalty to trigger at odd times.
  • Fixed Petition Hall using the old VFX.
  • Fixed a bug causing token redemption for inspiration to not stop when it was supposed to.


[h2]Hotfix Roundup: (These were already live but not in the last patch notes)[/h2]
  • Horse dimension visual toggle now disables mode 7.
  • Added hints for the people pix locations.
  • Workaround for rare taxman bug.
  • Added text to the wild growth spot in the labyrinth after learning the spell (to prompt the player to use it).
  • Upgrade swizzler will now drop into the tutetown store once to tell you that customer upgrades are a thing.
  • Added a switch in the demo that if detected in a full game save will warn the player that demo saves may cause issues.
  • Added a quest to tutetown where finnjamin disappears.
  • Added a plugin that reduces lag when opening/closing the menu.

Demo Update

I hadn't touched the demo for some time, but now it's up to date with all the quality of life changes and new content that's in the main game.

Also a bit of news. Some players had been asking for a way to support me as I work on updates, so I've set up a Patreon. Patrons can get their name of choice in the game and a Patron role on the Final Profit Discord.

  • Updated logo graphic.
  • Updated gold HUD.
  • Updated product UI.
  • Reduced title BGM volume.
  • Migrated plugin data.
  • Updated skill, spell, and equip menus.
  • Updated drink menu.
  • Added a switch in the demo that if detected in the main game will warn that copying a demo save may not be wise.
  • Added the utility accessory slot.
  • Updated accessory explanation text.
  • Added low VFX version of horsecut.
  • Added VFX toggle options.
  • Updated custom product amount handling.
  • Added shortcut keys for equip menu and chat log.
  • Added floating text to ale table and loot pile.
  • Updated optional Bird dialogue that encourages the player to explore.
  • Added cutaway to Vend in the Enterpriston shop.
  • Added Swizzler visiting the Tutetown shop once.
  • Updated red tree tilesets.
  • Updated lake north map to include the first seed puzzle.
  • Added Refrain and buff state feature.


Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed typo where Enterpriston said Enterprison. (lol)

Update: Refrain

Ahoy! Welcome to 1.00.25. The main focus in this one is introducing the new Buff mechanic, accompanied with a series of side quests exploring an element of Biz' past.

There's some quality of life additions, such as an update to the gold hud adding commas to make it easier to read. There's also a couple of new songs (which will be added to the OST shortly). And there are other new story and lore elements sprinkled throughout, details in the full patch notes below.

Changes:
  • Updated the gold hud visuals, including nubs every 3 numbers to make it easier to read large values.



  • Added an entry to Mrs. Five's diary regarding Oil Town.
  • Text showing coin collected from Batnik over the phone is now yellow.
  • Added an indicator when doing song puzzles if the notes are correct as you go.
  • Added a bunch of new property purchase dialogue in Enterpriston.
  • Added Refrain, a character from Biz' past with sidequests that leads to unlocking Buffs.
  • Added new Buff states. These are temporary effects that can be reapplied anywhere you've met Refrain.



  • Added face sprites for Rebertha.
  • Added 2 new songs.
  • Changed the Jukebox interface to display 2 columns instead of 1, also now continues playing the BGM while browsing.



  • Updated optional dialogue with the Bird in Tutetown at the first debt stage.
  • Added a new hidden location to Faeona.
  • Added a book to the Library with details about the lore of Mana.
  • Significantly reduced equipment combine costs.
  • Changed the final reward from Tinto from coin to a new accessory (this can be obtained retroactively by speaking with Tinto).
  • Added hidden things only visible when under the effect of one of the new Buffs.



  • Reworks to a couple of maps to accommodate Refrain.


Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed a bug that was giving too many Tinto trades.
  • Fixed Capital HUD not disappearing in a specific circumstance.
  • Fixed a door that could be reached from the wrong side.
  • Fixed a bug with the first seed puzzle.
  • Fixed the Fae Nobility track displaying Fae Royalty when collected.

Update: Fruit Seed Rework + Patch Notes

Ahoy! Welcome to 1.00.24. This update is largely focused on performance. With some changes to how graphics are handled in the Horsecut and a new toggle to disable animations when doing repetitive actions such as crafting.

There's some quality of life features too! With an improvement to the commodity UI and a few new hints.

And there's some new content too with a major change to how seeds are handled, 3 new apple treasure chests and some new puzzles! Read on for the full patch notes.

Changes:
  • Fruit seed rework - New seed purchasing interface, seeds are now stored in a Seed Bag, the maximum amount of seeds can be upgraded several times.



    On a regular playthrough the bag will be obtained at the same time as unlocking fruit, but for existing saves beyond that point the bag will be automatically added to your inventory when entering any location that deals in seeds. Any fruit seed items held at this time will be converted into the new storage method, however the default cap is 500 so any beyond that will be lost.



  • Changed the graphic for dimensional gunk.
  • Added a hint for finding a recently added spell.
  • Added a 'What was I doing?' text step for when it's time to meet the Dr. at the lab.
  • Some flavour text on NPCs now updates once inflation tier of product upgrades is reached.
  • Utility accessories text description now labels them as UTILITY ACCESSORY: instead of ACCESSORY:



  • Added a small easter egg to the tutetown shop after the level 20 cutaway scene.
  • Speaking to the Mana Weaver after using their service twice will now give you an extra reward (save for later).
  • Added a minor hidden use for the Booze Club Pin.
  • Moved input number tutorial man from the Capital to the Auction Plaza. (Seemed a more appropriate place to teach this function).
  • Commodity buy input will now default to the most you can afford, or the most available (whichever makes more sense in context).
  • Commodity sell input will now default to how many of that item you currently hold.
  • Added an upgrade that makes buying VenDRANK! instant and menuless once compression is available.
  • Added 3 new apple treasure chests.
  • Added an early game puzzle north of the lake.



  • Made some changes that hopefully will improve performance in the Horsecut.
  • Trade sequence items are now highlighted yellow in the item menu. (To make them easy to identify and get back on track if you get sidetracked during this quest chain).
  • E.I.C. token gain popup now changes to 'Tokens Full' when at the cap.
  • Added a new condition for convincing One. (More of an anti-condition).
  • Added a response when trying to feed famine boy an orange (this is very minor and just for flavour).
  • Added an option to disable animation during certain tasks such as crafting etc.



  • Reduced intensity of animation while putting mana in tubes.
  • Updated credits for a new plugin.


Bug Fixes:
  • Enabled missing library NPCs.
  • Fixed a bug with Boots of HASTE! speed.
  • Fixed a restocking error with vending machines.
  • Fixed a certain lategame decision having the opposite intended outcome.
  • Tutetown profit gained/lost popup now includes the coin icon.
  • Fixed the sign in the Lower Residential Quarter claiming you were in the Upper Residential Quarter.
  • Fixed typo in Castle Marx scene.
  • Fixed a jukebox chest in a cutaway using the old jukebox sprite.
  • Fixed missing vomp on one of the young people pix.
  • Fixed token exchange for passive income displaying the old value after upgrading (the actual gain was correct, just the display was wrong).
  • Fixed bug with VenDRANK! compression going over the cap.
  • Fixed a bug with vending machine autofilling.
  • Fixed some clipping bugs.
  • Fixed a rescued fae missing dialogue.
