Gerald Borough’s Guide to Things That Will Kill You (Probably Horribly)

I've spent years mapping forgotten ruins, dodging traps, and running away from things with far too many teeth. So, as a public service to all you would-be Inquisitors who aren’t quite as fast on your feet, I’ve put together this little guide, a bestiary of horrors, beasts, and bastards you’re likely to run into in Faelduum. Study it well, or better yet—just don’t leave town.

[h2]Terror Wolf[/h2]

Wolves are bad enough, but take a regular wolf, feed it rage and black magic, and you get this oversized nightmare. If one of these starts picking off your livestock, forget the pitchforks—get a war band. Or better yet, invest in some really tall fences and move far, far away.



[h2]Skeleton Bowman[/h2]

Ah, the classic! Some restless corpse who refuses to take a hint. One time, I tried to convince a skeleton it was already dead. Thought maybe it would lay down and save me the trouble. Instead, it shot a crossbow bolt at my face. So… don't try reasoning with them. They’ve got unfinished business, and unfortunately, you are now that business.



[h2]Skeleton Lancer[/h2]

Some lunatic with a grudge against the living decided to stick a spear in this animated pile of bones and send it out to ruin your day. It moves faster than you'd think for something with no muscles, and trust me, it does not appreciate jokes about being dead. If you see one, do yourself a favor, and shatter its knee before it gets the chance to shatter yours.



[h2]Green Slimelet[/h2]

A sentient blob of goo that only exists to eat and multiply. Reminds me of a certain merchant I met in Zalthold… but at least slimes don’t try to overcharge you for stale bread. Keep your distance unless you enjoy finding out which parts of your body dissolve first.



[h2]Green Slime[/h2]

Just like the Slimelet, but bigger, slimier, and even more annoying. It doesn’t need to eat you, it just wants to. Ever had a visitor who just wouldn’t take a hint and leave? That’s a Green Slime, except instead of being an ex who won’t stop sending letters, it’s a flesh-melting ooze that can ruin your entire day.



[h2]Rogue Mage[/h2]

There’s nothing worse than someone who thinks they’re the smartest person in the room—except maybe one who can fry you where you stand. Rogue mages don’t fight fair, and they definitely don’t talk things out. The moment you see the air start to spark around them, don’t wait to find out if they’re just showing off, hit first, or prepare to glow like a festival lantern.



[h2]Broadsword Gremlin[/h2]

Now, this one I almost like. It’s got heart! A sword, a shield, and a serious height complex. If it wasn’t actively trying to stab me, I’d invite it round for a drink. But alas, it is, and so, sadly, I must cut it down. Shame, really.



[h2]Bandit Bowman[/h2]

The kind of scum that prefers to shoot you in the back rather than fight you face-to-face. Usually found lurking in the woods, waiting to fill some unlucky traveler with arrows before they even know what’s happening. Cowards, the lot of them. Dangerous cowards, but cowards nonetheless.



[h2]Brigand[/h2]

These bastards have weapons and—sometimes—even know how to use them. They usually rely on numbers rather than skill, which makes them extra dangerous if you let yourself get surrounded. They're desperate, they're violent, and they only need one lucky swing to turn you into a corpse. Don’t give them that chance.



There! Now you know just enough to not die immediately. But let’s be honest, you’re probably going to get yourself killed anyway. So if you do, at least make sure to leave a decent map behind. I’ll take good care of it.

Patch Notes: 1.3 and New Pet Followers

Hi Inquisitors,

Today, we released our latest update for Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree — Patch 1.3!

This patch contains some key gameplay balance adjustments, additional stability improvements, and a range of gameplay fixes - marking the first of several upcoming patches planned in the coming weeks, aimed at refining the game and addressing more of your feedback. We also know many of you are awaiting the New Game+ mode - rest assured, it's something we're working hard on, and we'll share more details as soon as we can.

You can find details on its exact contents further down in this post — but first, we want to thank you all.

We’re very aware that the launch wasn’t as smooth as it should’ve been, and we really appreciate your patience as we’ve worked through key issues — especially those which caused the loss of save games.

As both a thank-you for your support and an apology for these difficulties, Patch 1.3 also includes two new Pet Followers, available for free for all players:
  • Kernel Buzz
  • The Unexpected Bug

To activate them: load your existing save or start a new game, then head to Options > General and scroll down to select the Pet Follower you’d like to join you on your adventure.

  • Fixed an issue where a smoke effect would stick on the screen.
  • Fixed the arena blocker visual effects at the Ferryman boss fight.
  • Fixed multiple issues with Vendor Sell / Buy price calculations.
  • Fixed an issue that caused some of the Vendor Cart upgrades to not provide their bonuses.
  • Fixed a rare issue that caused a Portal to not fully open.
  • Fixed an issue where two aggroing Weblings died during aggro at Frozen Ramparts.
  • Fixed an additional issue that caused players to die when exiting Entropy while Phoenix was on cooldown.
  • Fixed an issue where the wrong portraits would show during conversations.
  • Fixed the background in the final cutscene.
  • Fixed an issue where the Statistics Window would show 100% Map Completion when the actual value was below that.
  • Fixed an issue where the Dark Orb upgrade would not function correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where the Cartographer achievement was not possible to earn.
  • Fixed an issue where door icons were missing on the map.
  • Fixed an issue where some sound effects might get stuck when saving the game.
  • Fixed an issue where essence gain modifiers would incorrectly apply when spending essence.
  • Fixed an issue where teleporting to a Witch Stone on a different map failed to rest the player.
  • Fixed Champion’s Cloak diagram to produce the correct item instead of Serpent Cape.
  • Fixed the damage reduction of Furion’s Protection ring item.
  • Fixed an issue where walls were not properly removed after specific boss fights.
  • Fixed an issue where Travel would not work when the game ran at a very high frame rate.
  • Fixed an issue where the player would instantly die when hitting their head on a platform on the spinning wheel in the Forsaken Mine.
  • Fixed the weight of the Hollowplate chest item.
  • Minor balancing of the following Minibosses: Chthonic Stalker, Jotun, Forest Giant, Ravager, Wraith
  • Reduced the health, resistances, and damage of the following late game enemies in Crimson City: Fireplate Sentinel, Zealot, Homunculus, Icebound Burrower, Gremlins, Phantom
  • Minor balancing of the following Bosses: Matron Layla, Sleepwalker, Pyromancer, Entropic Wyrm
  • Reduced the damage output of the Marionette Sorceress Volley ability.
  • Increased the drop rate of all armor and weapon pieces dropped by enemies.
  • Increased the drop rate of Linen, Wool, and Silk Cloth.
  • Increased the healing and scaling of the Blood Craze talent.
  • Decreased the Power scaling of Fire Bolt.
  • Decreased the Spirit scaling of Ball Lightning, and slightly increased the mana cost and upgrade mana cost.
  • Lowered the stamina cost of several daggers: Ataxia, Frosttalon, Purity in Death, Tim’s Practice Daggers, Melancholy, Sanguine Kiss
  • Lowered the stamina cost of several one-handed weapons: Duskblade, Astralforged Gavel, Emerald Dream, Witchclaw
  • Reduced the Lantern drain in Entropy by 22%. 
  • Slightly reduced the bonus of Essence Prism Signet and Devouring Shroud.
  • Additional Lockpicks and Wood added to Gerald for purchase.
  • Reduced the damage and scaling of the Eruptive Brambles talent.
  • Reduced the damage and scaling of the Unstable Burst talent.
  • Minor balancing of enemy resistances: Permafrost Lurker, Draconic Initiate, Draconic Scorcher, Frost Mage, Corrupted Dryad, Frostmane, Gloom Wolf, Fang Marauder 
  • Decreased the experience penalty when crafting some of the lower-level Diagrams at Vendors.
  • Increased the crafting experience for various Blacksmithing Diagrams.
  • Increased gold gained from most of the Bounty Quests.
  • Reduced the weight of several chest items: Mercenary, Allemag Cavalier, Bronze, Halberdier, Retributor, Skeleton
  • Reduced the Retalent cost drastically.
  • Added a missing item, Outlaw Cowl, to the Outlaw Brute’s droplist.
  • Added a lingering visual effect to disappearing platforms in Entropy, making them always visible.
  • Removed the cinematic armor set from the Transmog window.

First off, we want to sincerely thank everyone who has played Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree since launch. We deeply appreciate your patience, support, and feedback over the past few days. Your input is incredibly valuable, and we’re fully committed to improving the game.

Since release, we’ve rolled out several hotfixes as part of the 1.2.x series of patches, primarily focused on improving stability and addressing the most urgent bugs.
Our top priority was fixing game-breaking issues as quickly as possible. That being said, we're committed to keeping you better informed moving forward.

Improving your experience playing the game is our main goal, and we’re planning future content patches accordingly. We’re also constantly reviewing your feedback, and while we may not be able to respond to every comment, please know we’re keeping an eye on everything and investigating accordingly.

Looking ahead, Patch 1.3 is scheduled to launch next week. This will be the first major update, featuring key gameplay balance adjustments, additional stability improvements, and a range of gameplay fixes. We’ll share full patch notes alongside its release.

Important Update on Data Collection and Privacy removal

Dear Inquisitors,

We want to stress that you, Players, are our first priority. Your trust and the game are at the center of our attention.

Similar to the removal of additional DRM solutions from the game prior to release, which we decided to do after receiving the community feedback and understanding the concerns regarding an unrestricted gaming experience. Allow us now to address your concerns regarding telemetry and data collection in the game.

[h3]What Happened[/h3]

Data collection and telemetry in-game are industry practices that publishers and developers adopt to improve their games (e.g. improve balance, game progression, content, crashes, etc.) - and this was the case too for Mandragora.

However, we understand that sharing our general-purpose set of legal agreements, including the Privacy Policy, that covers and regulates many different services - including, for example, websites and marketplaces, and many types of games, including multiplayer ones - created only misunderstanding and concerns, instead of fulfilling their key role of giving you maximum transparency.

[h3]What We’re Doing About It[/h3]

We want you to enjoy the game with peace of mind. For this reason, we have decided to remove all telemetry and data collection from Mandragora, effective immediately. This will give you a fully offline experience without any information transferred or collected, so you can enjoy the game as you want.

We want to inform you upfront that this change required us to update the EULA removing any unneeded reference to data that is not collected anymore and the references to the now removed Privacy Policy. This requires a patch and you might be asked to accept the new and simplified EULA.

[h3]A patch is already available that removes telemetry from the game![/h3]

For those among you who have previously accepted the Privacy Policy, we want to reassure you:
  • We never sold your data nor shared with anyone outside our internal telemetry systems. We are fully compliant with all data protection laws.
  • With patch 1.2.7 for Steam, no data will be collected at all, even if you had previously accepted the privacy policy.


If you remain concerned, you can immediately request erasure of data we might have collected, in line with data protection laws. To do this, please reach out to our data protection officer [email protected] and mention “Mandragora Privacy Policy” to help us expedite your request.
This will no longer be necessary after patch 1.2.7, as we will no longer be collecting data.

We are also aware that some players have mistakenly seen a connection to our telemetry systems and would like to take this occasion and confirm that “false positive” Anti-Virus issues (like Windows Defender) are completely unrelated. We have submitted these issues already to the respective third parties companies and hope to get this sorted soon.
