We hope you're doing well! As we gear up for Steam Next Fest, we’re excited to share with you the next issue of our Development Progress & Update series. In this update, we’ll be sharing two new things: a new water flow system and implementation of random weather events within the game.

[h2]New Water Flow System[/h2]

First off, we’ve added a new water flow system! With this new feature, you can now dig new water channels to direct water from nearby sources to your land. Whether you’re looking to beautify your home, enhance your environment or improve irrigation for your crops, it’s all made more efficient with realistic water physics. Implementing this feature across different terrains and water sources was a complex task, but it was a rewarding challenge for us!

[h2]Random Weather Events[/h2]

Expect an even more exciting and unpredictable gameplay experience with the introduction of random weather events! Just like how one day it might rain and the next could be sunny, we wanted to bring a slice of real-world weather into the game. This also helps us to lay the groundwork for future planned seasonal gameplay mechanics. So remember, always be prepared and build adequate shelter for those unexpected downpours!

We've also been busy optimizing the in-game NPC interactions and upgrading the cooking mechanics. This includes the introduction of various seasonings, a wider range of food choices and more. We believe that these enhancements will make your experience more diverse and enjoyable, and we can’t wait to share more information with you in the upcoming updates.

Today, we are thrilled to share a significant milestone with you all. For the first time ever, we will be releasing a demo of Pathless Woods in the upcoming Steam Next Fest in February 2024!

We will be including more new content and features in the demo, on top of what you have already seen so far. This is your chance to experience a slice of the adventure, and we can’t wait to share them with you!

We also want to inform you that the Pathless Woods: Prologue build will be taken down on February 1, 2024. For those who have already downloaded the Pathless Woods: Prologue build, please note that this version will stop receiving updates and lose access to online services on the same day. Till then, please continue to enjoy the game, and we will continue to take in your invaluable feedback and suggestions to improve the gaming experience. We encourage you to keep sharing them with us through Steam discussions or on our Discord.

Today, we want to bring you a very special message—In order to test the online multiplayer experience, we have released a new Prologue build that you can play for free! In addition, online multiplayer is also available, so tell your friends to join in, explore and survive the mysterious woods together!

Please note that the Prologue is mainly for testing the online multiplayer experience, however if you face any issues that might affect your gameplay experience, please let us know through the Steam Discussion board! Alternatively, you can also share it with us through the survey form here.

To help you understand what this Prologue build is about, we have prepared a list of FAQs below:

[h3]What is the Pathless Woods Prologue?[/h3]

We have been developing Pathless Woods for a few years now, and throughout this period we have also conducted a series of small-scale play tests, including a larger scale global playtest recently. As we took in all your feedback and suggestions, it was clear there was one that stood out amongst many players - an online multiplayer feature.

With this, we set out to develop the online multiplayer experience you asked for. However, as we delved deeper, we came to realize its depth and complexity exceeded our initial expectations on the time required, and there was a lot of trial and error involved.

That's why we're introducing this prologue, which is an opportunity for us to test and refine the multiplayer experience on top of other experimental features with an even larger base of players! Through your feedback, we hope to be able to create a much more enjoyable experience for everyone.


[h3]What Does This Prologue Experience Include?[/h3]

Firstly, this prologue is free to play! We hope to collect as much feedback as possible through this test, especially from players in different network environments. In order to obtain relevant information efficiently, there will be some limitations in the prologue, such as:

Play Time: This prologue build will allow you to explore the mysterious woods for the first 20 days.



Character Selection: You can choose only between 2 characters and their various outfits.



Limited Progression: Access to a selected number of items that you can research and craft.



Restricted Terrain and Exploration: Explore a select number of biomes within a portion of the map.



While these limitations are in the Prologue, it will be lifted up in the full release! In addition, there are more features that we are working on including in upon the full release, and have plans to deliver more content and updates post-launch.

[h3]How Long Will the Prologue Last? [/h3]

As of now, we do not have a firm date on how long the prologue will stay up on Steam, as it depends on the feedback we collect regarding the online experience and the progress of our development. However, if you have downloaded the prologue and added it to your library, good news! You will be able to install it anytime you like, even when the game is released.

[h3]When Will the Game be Released and will it be Early Access or a Full Version?[/h3]

If development goes smoothly, we are aiming to release Pathless Woods under Early Access in Q1 of 2024, but the specific time is still unconfirmed. We will continue to take in your feedback and suggestions, work on optimizing the game, include new features and content and release it once it's ready. But not to worry, because we'll be updating you as we go along!

As you explore, survive and wander the mysterious forest, feel free to share any suggestions or feedback through Steam reviews and discussions, or fill up the in-game feedback surveys to let us know what you think we could improve on! Your insights will be pivotal in refining our much-anticipated online multiplayer feature and other aspects of the game.
