Brutal Orchestra 1.4f2 Minor fixes

Another small update with some minor fixes:

Fixes
  • Added more checks on the Extra Options so it does not break for some players.
  • Removed a sound during the interlude dialogue where Nowak was not saying anything.
  • Fixed the fonts for the character unlock information that show on the character selection.
  • Intent icons now appear over top of Character Field Effects.
  • Enemy Shield Field Effect will be properly shown in front of enemies.


Features
  • Enemy Bonus attack Passives have now proper pigment costs just in case Mods add them into characters.
  • Status Effects now showcase numbers upon decreasing in value.
  • Formless now won’t reroll if the Enemy has Forgetful and no more abilities are available.


Mods
  • Made some variables modifiable so Mods have access to them. (Bimini’s cost, Fogs’ cost, Bronzo’s cost, Bronzo fight chance and base chance)
  • Enabled some textures Read/Write for Mods to have access to them. (Shop Items, Treasure Items, Passive Icons, Attack Icons, Status and Field Effect icons)
  • Prepared the Healing function to return any required information that modders might need.
  • Added 5 extra custom functions to Status and Field Effects so modders can get crazier.
  • Added Default Enemy Ability Sprite into the Enemy Database for easier access. Made the API also automatically set up that Sprite for Enemy Abilities.
  • Added OnHealthColorChange Trigger.

Small update with some minor fixes:

Fixes
  • Fixed issue where some death animations did not completely finish.
  • Fixed issue where the trophy displayed in the Main Menu was not the correct one.
  • Fixed issue where modded characters were not appearing in the Fools board.
  • Fixed issue where the Framerate was not properly set on game start.
  • Fixed issue where the mid game point was not properly working if you decide to close the game.
Features
  • Added VSync option in the Main Menu Settings.
Mods
  • Added automatic enemy ability image set up when creating custom enemy abilities.
  • Added Trigger call when the Health Colour has been changed.

ADDED STEAM WORKSHOP SUPPORT!!!!

New Trophies
  • Added Trophies, a new type of unlock that will replace the main menu skeleton as you complete major milestones! These can be toggled by clicking the currently equipped trophy.
  • The classic default "Pale Skeleton" trophy has been named "Obscured Remains".
  • Added Trophy "Purple, Yellow and Red", unlocked by completing achievement "The End?".
  • Added Trophy "Tu Nombre", unlocked by completing achievement "I'll Make You Regret This".
  • Added Trophy "The Brutal Orchestra", unlocked by completing achievement "All That is Mortal".
  • Added Trophy "Portrait of Figure at Peace", unlocked by completing achievement "Brutal Orchestra".
  • Added Trophy "Memory of Zdzisław Nowak", unlocked by completing achievement "Brutal Orchestra".
New Enemy
  • Added "Your Save File" (Easter egg enemy).
New Passive Effect
  • Added "Passive Full Reset" (Easter egg passive).
New Improvements
  • "Active Party" menu now features a number in the top left of each party member position to make their in-combat placement more clear before entering combat.
  • In-combat party member abilities have additional icons denoting their pigment cost.
  • Improved save file structure to be more stable.
  • Added 4 additional save files for a total of 5 save files.
  • Any dialogue can now be skipped by a button in the bottom right corner.
  • Made inanimate enemies able to be moved by more abilities.
Item Balance
  • Item "Gump Ming Goa" now affects Fennec.
  • Item "Baltic Brine" can no longer cause overflow.
  • Item "Blackened Toad" is now considered a Magic/Demon Fetish item for the purposes of "The Director's Final Frame" achievement.
  • Item "Convergent Rage" is now considered a Knife item for the purposes of "The Director's Final Frame" achievement.
  • Item "Purple Heart" is now considered a Heart item for the purposes of "The Director's Final Frame" achievement because we take pity on you.
  • Items that prevent death now count towards "The Second Coming" achievement.
  • Item "Surrender" will now heal the equipped party member 25% of their maximum health upon fleeing combat.
  • Item "Ed's Tags" will now heal 10 health when fleeing (previously healed 5 health).
  • Additional ability "Crown of Thorns" from item "Spiked Collar" now costs 1 Red Pigment (previously cost 1 Purple Pigment).
  • Item "You Can Do It" now reapplies status effect "Spotlight" every turn to a random party member or enemy (previously had only a 50% chance of applying status effect "Spotlight" at the beginning of combat to a random party member or enemy)
  • Item "Box of Medals" shop price reduced to 7 (previously 10).
  • Item "Ichthys" now has additional secret effect of spawning a temporary Mung party member at the start of combat.
  • Additional ability "Penance" from item "Skinned Skate" now costs 1 Red or Purple Pigment (previously cost 1 Red Pigment).
Party Member Balance
  • Swapped the pigment costs of Bimini's "Expire" and "Skewer" abilities.
  • Passive effect "Bone Spurs" now triggers even if damage received is 0.
  • Passive effect "Mutualism" now heals 1-2 health per turn (previously healed 0-2 per turn).
Menu Additions and Changes
  • Added "Save File" tab to options menu.
  • Added "Localization" tab to options menu.
  • Added "Extras" tab to options menu.
  • Fixed scroll speed on "Loot" menu.
  • Reduced size of arrow on "Rank Up" menu so as to not obscure any text.
  • Made confirmation UI dialogue space smaller to better fit within its bounds.
  • Added Final Boss Unlock Pearls to the "Active Party" menu to make it clearer who does and does not already have the relevant unlocks.
  • Passive effects applied by items will now be shown on the party member in the "Active Party" menu.
  • Added in-depth framerate options to options menu.
Localisation
  • Fixed various typos in the Spanish localization.
  • Fixed various typos in the English localization.
Misc Fixes and Additions
  • Fixed a longstanding issue with Heaven's "Come Home" animation.
  • Made Heaven slightly more bigoted against purple people.
  • Fixed a minor continuity error in Dimitri's unlock encounter.
  • Fixed error with the intent icons of the ability "Connection".
  • Fixed an error with Burnout's dialogue colour.
  • Swapped placement of "Strangers" achievements "Mordrake's Untold Tale" and "The Director's Final Frame".
Modding Changes
  • Modded party members with 4 to 6 abilities by default will now show up properly in "Fools" shops.
  • On the main menu, modded party members with more than 4 to 6 abilities by default will properly display all abilities.


On another note, you can now download fan-translations of Brutal Orchestra via the Steam Workshop!
In particular we recommend the Italian and Brazilian Portuguese translations as they have been been worked on by some truly incredible fans!

[h2]Notice About the Human Canvas Sale[/h2]
With every Major Brutal Orchestra update we host a one week sale of Brutal Orchestra. However, with The Human Canvas update, Steam is requesting we choose between a sale for our own update and a different fast-approaching Genre Steam Sale.

So to do both, we are delaying this sale until a month or two in the future so we can use the sale to spotlight some exciting mods the Workshop offers!

[h2]What's next for Brutal Orchestra?[/h2]
Well, you may recall our previous post mentioning a Vinyl Kickstarter for Brutal Orchestra.
Those plans will still come to fruition but our release window has been impacted by Talia's other project Clown Meat needing a bit more time in the oven. We aren't confident if the vinyl will still be a Kickstarter but we are confident it will be happening once our schedule clears up a bit.

For the next little bit, Nico is going to get some well-deserved rest as this update is almost entirely his creation. Once Talia returns from the world of Clown Meat, discussion will need to be had regarding whether there will be more Brutal Orchestra either as a content update or even potentially a DLC...

Talia has been very busy this year working on her new game Clown Meat which is releasing in 2024!



Clown Meat is a Precision Platformer with an emphasis on speedrunning and replayability. Tumble through a butchered world where humanity is barely a memory on your naïve journey to cheer up the monolithic clown that came from the Depths of Jupiter.



In fact, Clown Meat features Nowak (and Bosch) as playable characters!



Talia also released a super small and horrible gamejam titled Eros Wept which I advise against playing.

[h2]What has Nico been up to?ːMobyDongː[/h2]

Nico's focus this year has been primarily taking care of his family's health and spending time with his loved ones.

Despite that, Nico has created a real-time game mode for Brutal Orchestra. It's fully playable but a pretty dramatic departure from the gameplay you expect from Brutal Orchestra!!

This new game mode is actually an homage to a much earlier iteration of Brutal Orchestra where the game was tentatively called "Ball Wizards" and was intended to be fully real-time.



Here is a screenshot from a prehistoric iteration of Brutal Orchestra.

In fact, you can play this version of Brutal Orchestra right now by opting into the beta branch with the password "ballwizardslives". This is a highly experimental build (that was made in a week) so expect some bugs and general weirdness. This build also uses a new save file so you will have to start from scratch!

Will this Realtime mode ever come out in an official capacity? Maybe, we really don't know yet. The Future is Wild and anything could happen.

Clown Meat, Talia's next game is still pretty deep in the oven but Brutal Orchestra hasn't been left in the dust! We've been hard at work on localizing Brutal Orchestra to Spanish (with other languages on the way).



There have been some difficulties with translating to Non-English/Spanish languages so we want the help of YOU! If you are a native speaker of French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Japanese or Turkish and have an in-depth knowledge of Brutal Orchestra we want to talk with you to make sure that our translations are up to snuff before we release them to the world! Localization:
  • Brutal Orchestra is now available in Spanish!
Enemy and Boss Balance:
  • The Mother's Visage ability "Dependancy" now inflicts 3 Frail. (Orig: 2, Erroneously: 1)
  • Heaven will no longer use the ability "Come Home" on the first turn.
  • Items that prevent wrong pigment now work in the fight with Bronzo.
  • Spitfire Spoggle's are now considered to be fish. (Massive gameplay ramifications.)
Character Balance:
  • Reworked Burnout's ability "Decimation".
  • Arnold's Passive Panic attack is no longer prevented by "Infernal Eye".
Item Balance:
  • Bloating Coffers now shows current coins in combat.
  • Added Wallop and Premature Excretion to the item ability "Alchemical Abomination".
  • You can now remove items by dropping it on the character that has it.
Status and Passive Balance:
  • The status effect "Scars" trigger on the status effect "Linked" again.
  • The passive effect "Construct" is limited to 5 now.
Misc Changes
  • Brutal Orchestra saves more frequently.
  • Custom characters can now have up to 6 abilities render normally.
  • Improved cinematic text positioning to support future localization.
  • Increased the size of various UI elements to support other fonts.
  • Extended "Sword" (Brutal Orchestra's font) to include special characters.
  • Improved mass swapping to swap at least 1 enemy at all times.
  • Right clicking pigment now more easily adds them into the ability cost.
  • Item's and Passives show their icon on activation now.
  • Updated credits.
Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed Music Man transformation + Confusion + Conductor double transformation combo bug.
  • The Passive Effect "Two-Faced" no longer triggers on death.
  • The Skinning Homunculus' ability "Inhuman Roar" now properly inflicts "Frail" to self.
  • Changed "El Dorado" icon to the correct icon.
  • Fixed a bug with the audio when skipping a cinematic too fast.
  • Fixed "Clive's" pressure point pigment cost being aesthetically the wrong way around.
  • Fixed "Overexert" unintended interaction with damage on combat start.
  • Fixed "Someone Else's Face" improperly interacting with "Divine Protection".
  • Fixed a bug where items destroyed on death didn't properly update the UI.
  • Fixed a typo in the tutorial for the field effect "Shield".
  • Fixed a typo in the Dollmaster's Dialogue.
  • Fixed a typo on the "Overflow" Keyword in the Glossary.
  • Fixed a typo on the item "Opulent Egg's" description.
