FromSoftware-inspired RPG Lunacid is getting DLC, as its creator expresses bafflement at its success: 'This was supposed to be niche'

FromSoftware is one of the most influential game developers in recent history, though most games inspired by the studio borrow the ideas of its post-Demon's Souls output. For dark fantasy RPG Lunacid, however, developer Kira LLC took inspiration from the Japanese studio's far lesser-known series King's Field, which first appeared on the PlayStation 1...

Progress and Plans for 2026

[p]Just wanted to post some quick announcements.[/p][p][/p][p]I am still working on the DLC, it's about 70% done (I feel like it's been at 70% forever though). I definitely had too big a scope for it, but I have to complete it, even just for my sake.[/p][p][/p][p]This DLC is my current main project, and what I spend most of my time on.[/p][p](Sorry for getting distracted by Halo modding)[/p][p][/p][p]With the DLC release there will be a few more rounds of bug fixing that will accompany the base game as well. Many fixes are already in my DLC branch but I had them tied up with assets related to the DLC and can't release them until they are worked on a little more and tested.[/p][p][/p][p]My code is bad and I feel bad.[/p][p]I am getting better at it and am fixing things though.[/p][p][/p][p]I just want to make cool art.[/p][p]Some of this art contains tiny pieces of my soul. I hope that it always adds to the experience, but I also understand that sometimes my words, actions, or even existence can put people off.[/p][p]Separate art from artist if you can enjoy art that way.[/p][p]I could never do that.[/p][p][/p][p]There's a lot of cool art out there, made by all sorts of people, enjoyed by all sorts of people.[/p][p]Don't waste time here if you don't like the game. Go find some art made by someone you agree with and enjoy that instead. And if you can't find any, then make some yourself.[/p][p][/p][p]This was supposed to be niche. I thought I'd be a mysterious and unknown artist forever. I'm just a cat, I dunno what's going on.[/p]

My biggest pleasant surprise of 2025 so far has been the free prequel to one of my favorite indie RPGs, made with FromSoft's 25-year-old game making toolset

2023's Lunacid is one of my favorite indies, dungeon crawlers, and just games, period of the last few years. It's a first person RPG taking after FromSoftware's King's Field series, set in an unforgettable subterranean world festooned with secrets. Creator Kira LLC has just released their next project, a follow-up to Lunacid, but there are more than a few twists to it...

Lunacid: Tears of Moon Release

Hello!

Lunacid: Tears of the Moon is now available for free on Steam. It’s a Lunacid spin-off made with the Sword of Moonlight — a toolkit from 2000 used to create King’s Field like games that was released by FROMSOFT. After all, a lot of inspiration for the original Lunacid stems from my deep appreciation of Shadow Tower and King’s Field games.

Tears of the Moon is also a dark fantasy dungeon crawler — full of daunting foes, spells and weapons to obtain and, of course, secrets to discover. The game is very much worth trying out, if you never got to experience the KF series, or feel nostalgic about games of that era.

Naturally, a tool straight from the year 2000 is bound to have a fair share of limitations. However, I very much enjoyed challenging myself to be more creative within these constraints. And I hope, that you could appreciate both this passion and FROMSOFT’s legacy in Lunacid: Tears of the Moon.

Thank you for your support.
Moonlight watch thee.
