Henry Cavill prints out Mass Effect Wikipedia page, internet explodes

Is Henry Cavill going to be in a film or TV adaptation of Mass Effect? I don't know, but Cavill certainly wants you to think he is. The actor has taken to Instagram with a trolling tease that he's working on something in the Mass Effect universe, and the implications are obvious. Either Cavill is being extremely mean to Mass Effect fans, or we're about to see BioWare's sci-fi epic move beyond the world of RPG games.

The image shows Cavill at a make-up table. At the edge of the screen, there's a piece of paper with a pile of blurry text on it. "Secret project? Or just a handful of paper with random words on it," Cavill teases in the photo's caption. "Guess you'll have to wait and see. Happy hump day all."

The blurry text is an excerpt from the Mass Effect 3 Wikipedia page, as the folks at Gamepressure discovered by running the photo through a deblur program. The text specifically references the bit in ME3 where you deal with the battle between the Quarians and the Geth.

The Expanse helped me understand a major Mass Effect plot point

The Amazon Prime series The Expanse is great. It’s really excellent sci-fi, and shares many parallels with one of my most loved game series, Mass Effect. Today, I would like to tell you about how The Expanse made me less annoyed at one of the major plot points in the very first Mass Effect.

Fair warning, I’m about to drop some spoilers for The Expanse here (not for Season 5 though! I haven’t seen any of that myself just yet), so read on at your own risk.

Mass Effect lead hints that the new game is a sequel to both Andromeda and Mass Effect 3

The teaser trailer for Mass Effect 5 - or whatever it ends up being called - answered some questions while raising many more. One thing that stood out to many fans is that we see multiple galaxies in the opening of the trailer, which seemed to hint that the new game would follow up on both Mass Effect 3 and Andromeda. Now, BioWare is stoking the fires of speculation directly.

In response to fans on social media speculating that this would be a single sequel to both games based on the multi-galactic intro, project director Mike Gamble tweets that the presence of two galaxies there was very much "intentional". He follows up to say "Who knows. Maybe not? But we show both for a reason."

Gamble is certainly encouraging fans to keep up the speculation, but it looks like we're going to have a long wait ahead for answers. In a blog post, BioWare says that "we've got a long runway ahead of us before we'll be ready to show you more", and given how much time has passed since the new Dragon Age made its debut, you should probably take that warning very seriously.

Mass Effect 5 debuts in a Game Awards teaser trailer

BioWare has unveiled at least a tiny look at the next Mass Effect game as part of The Game Awards. As with Dragon Age earlier in the night, it's just a brief teaser that doesn't give much away, but it does offer an idea of what to expect from the upcoming game - and it seems that we're returning to the setting of the original trilogy.

The trailer has us moving through several galaxies before ending up on an icy planet, where we see the remains of a dead Reaper in the background. An Asari woman digs up a piece of N7 gear, perhaps hinting that Shepard still has a part to play.

The Game Awards is an annual showcase of both the year's best games and upcoming titles from publishers and developers across the industry. The evening promises news on everything from Among Us to the next Dragon Age game, and PCGamesN will be here to provide the biggest news as it happens.
