HumanitZ | Zeek Feed 003

Greetings Survivors,

It's been a week already so it's time for another Zeek Feed, this week will be a bit of a short one so let's dive in!

What we have been working on…

We tested our first dev build with quests added to the map and it was a lot of fun for the team to dive in and play HumanitZ with quests, we will be continuing to improve and test the newly added quests system over the coming weeks as we edge closer to its release.

We mentioned last week about adding a level streaming system to our houses in our map and we are happy with how this is helping with performance. More testing will continue this week but it's going in the right direction as we work towards helping support lesser PC specs, steamdeck compatibility and just overall game performance.

We’ve been working on a new overgrown location of the map to explore that will have a different feel to it. Not much else I can say right now on this but we plan to do this with more locations in future if it works out well.

We’ve added lots of new items to the game (and I mean lots) for the player to find, some items will be used for new game mechanics and crafting etc, other items will be used later in development and anything that cannot be used right now will be part of the quest system or used as a high value item to use with traders.

Future Stuff:

  • Being able to build certain actors in the game will be made harder with unique items, for example CB radio and generator will be harder to build in the future due to new required items.
  • Changing how rock and mushroom spawners work so they can be added to the map in a more performant way so that players will be able to find rocks etc a lot more easier.
  • Updates around the player’s health system with more types of illness and bleeding etc coming soon.
  • Making noise! More actions in game will trigger noises like looting etc more info on this soon.

Thanks for the support and taking the time to read our latest zeek feed.
And we’ll see you on the next one

HumanitZ | Zeek Feed 002

Greetings Survivors,

We are back with another Zeek Feed, this week we report back on what we worked on last week and what is on our radar for the next couple of weeks.

We released the latest hotfix last week to fix a lot of crash issues and other bugs that have been in our game for a long time, so far this has been a successful patch.

What we have been working on…

Last week more work was done on the quest system creating the quest camps and their locations on the map. Also a host of new quests including NPC quests, random events, world quests and more.

We have implemented and are still testing a new level streaming system for the map that will help improve loading time of joining/starting a game. This will also help solve issues with players with lesser gaming PC’s struggling to load into a game, in turn helping with our steamdeck development as this was one of the stumbling blocks prior to this addition.

Additionally, we’ve also been working on map improvements with new smaller POIs, more house variations and layouts, and also improving the foliage and colour palette with new trees.

The team is also testing new quick slots for watch and compass as this has been a highly requested feature to improve the amount of quickslots the player has.

There has been some work done with play testing with the controller support, we are now working through our list of actions to improve how the controller works and to make sure it’s 100% functional with all aspects of the game and UI.

Future stuff:

Plans to add more parts and items needed for vehicles, for example oil, spark plugs and potential for wheels as well.
SAT NAV item for vehicles that will be used as a mini map feature while driving.
More work on lore and ideas for potentially expanding the map.

Thanks for the support and taking the time to read our latest zeek feed.
And we’ll see you on the next one

HumanitZ | Zeek Feed 001

Greetings Survivors,

Welcome to our first ever Zeek Feed where we, the Devs, update you on all things happening in and around the world of HumanitZ. We feel this is a great way for us to share our progress with you!

For our first feed we’ll dive straight in and tell you all what we’ve been up to these past couple of weeks.

We’re pretty sure we’ve isolated the random game crash bug and think this is now solved and looking to push a fix this coming week. We’ve also been working on the reported issues logged by our community from the introduction of the latest patch, so we thank you for all the time and effort people take into logging tickets with us via our Discord and Steam Discussions page.

Additionally, the team has been tweaking the quest system which was teased last week on all social platforms and we are very excited with how this is developing. We will release more info on this when we’re comfortable it is ready to showcase, but we’re extremely excited to get it to you all!

There has been a lot of feedback in regards to the tutorial system. We have completely overhauled the tutorial to better help new Survivors into the game. It is much shorter and easier to follow, giving the very basic survival mechanics, camera and movement options and getting the Survivors out into the world.

SteamDeck support. We are currently working on map optimization as well as level streaming before we can release on SteamDeck. This part of the game must be finished in order to alleviate system requirement barriers with HumanitZ. With that comes improving the controller support as currently there are areas of the game that don't function well with controller but this is something we are actively working on in time for the next major update.

We’ll be adding a basic swimming mechanic to the game so players' immersion isn't broken when walking under water so that will be coming very soon.

Some future changes coming to game:

Loot changes will be tweaked and tested throughout Early Access as we find that perfect apocalypse balance. There will always be settings to increase or lower portions of the game so you can really customise your playstyle but we are looking at making the default settings more in line with what our original vision of the game was, so those that enjoy either being a loot goblin or fighting the elements you’ll still have the settings to modify.

After the quest system is added, we will be moving onto food spoilage, changing how the game currently works making surviving more challenging and adding our vision of realism to the game. We will be adding other food/building resource mechanics to help counter spoilage as well as some inventory management and stack retooling.

We are changing how vehicles spawn so at least one of every type will spawn per server or save including rare vehicles so you’ll just have to explore everywhere to find them.

In true zombie lore, we are thinking of adding the player turning into a zombie on death. If you get infected from a bite, you eventually turn, giving you a chance to seek out your former self or friends and end their suffering. More news on this soon.

Also we are going to experiment with night time chaos changing the way the infected behave taking some inspiration from movies such as I am Legend but just ideas for making the game more challenging and testing the players to the max.

We will also be releasing a brand new Roadmap this month so lookout for that.

And to wrap things up we would like to thank everyone that has supported so far as we head into our 9th month of Early Access the community we are growing here is fantastic and the passion that you show towards HumanitZ really inspires us everyday to improve and better the game.

Thanks for taking the time to check this out
And we’ll see you on the next one
