About the Game
The Devil Within: Satgat aims to rejuvenate the action-platformer genre by bridging generations of game design: a traditional action-sidescroller base that is infused with souls-like and metroidvania elements.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Assuming the role of an amnesiac swordsman Kim Rip, you aim to not only seek out your lost memories, but also answers regarding the mysterious Ebon Sting, a foreboding tower that has suddenly appeared and brought demons with it. A daunting set of tasks that can be accomplished with your growing arsenal of skills, weaponry, and a demon that resides within you.

Newcore Games designed The Devil Within: Satgat as a means to rejuvenate the action-platformer genre that we once loved. Drawing inspiration from a plethora of games and after nearly 3 years of development and loads of feedback from our 7-month Early Access community, we hope that The Devil Within: Satgat keeps you engaged with all that it has to offer. The parry and different skills out of guard/dodge/dash, supers/specials in the form of Concentrated Counterattacks, and the massive skill tree that includes a devil form: all of these things helped bring the fast pace close range combat that we wanted to see growing up.
Thank You
Newcore Games is a small studio out in South Korea that really wanted bring the game genre that we loved growing up with and modernizing it. This game was made possible because of the tons of experience in the 3 years of developing the game together as a team, friends in the industry who pushed us in the right ways, and of course the amazing amount of support and feedback by our Early Access community. The Devil Within: Satgat is in the best shape that it could ever be in because of everyone who helped out and we could not be more proud of it. From the bottom of our hearts, we sincerely thank each and every one of you.

The Devil Within: Satgat Launch Date Announcement

Hello everyone,

We would first like to thank everyone who has been with us on this journey. All of you have shared your feedback, love and support that helped us get to this announcement. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Newcore Games is proud to announce that The Devil Within: Satgat will be launching on Steam on November 21st, 16:00 GMT+9!
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1802880/The_Devil_Within_Satgat/

The launch version of The Devil Within: Satgat will bring in content that Early Access users helped shape. With that in mind, there are a few things we want to introduce as well as a few notes to consider for the full launch.
1. New Story
The full launch version of the game will feature a vastly different story from the one that players enjoyed through Early Access. While some parts kind of carry over (like our amnesiac protagonist), the way the other characters play a role in the overall story is quite different. Here is a short conversation with Dongbaek about what to expect:

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

There are also many exhilarating boss fights to be enjoyed in the full version of the game. For those of you who are new, the Black Crow Combatant (a boss that you fight in stage 2) has a bit of a bone to pick with Kim Rip:
2. New Skills (including the Devilized form)
We added a lot of new skills for players to toy around with. With the anti-air skills as well as the devilized form (which plays "Bloodletting Me" by Matthew Kiichi Heafy when you transform so you can rock out while destroying your foes), players will find that there are a bountiful amount of combos that they can string together.
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
3. AP System Changes
The AP (stamina) System was revamped through one of the Closed Beta Tests and it seems that players really resonated with it. Before, when you ran out of stamina, you can only do an emergency dodge and walk around at a very slow pace.

After the changes however, you can keep doing light attacks, jump, and move. Essentially, when you run out of AP, the only actions that are restricted are actions that require AP. We made the adjustments so that you can keep up the offensive effort or move-out of the way to prioritize the defensive effort.
4. The Capital (and revisiting old stages)
Stage 4 is all about The Capital. We talked a bit about the Capital previously - Kim Rip comes to grips with his past and other characters play a pivotal role in the Capital. Aside from the story, Kim Rip also gains access to powers here that have long since been teased.

The Capital is filled with powerful demons that seek to take out Kim Rip. Regardless of difficulty level, the careless will have difficulties traversing though this stage. However, those who have reached the Capital will undoubtedly have mastered the offensive, defensive, and mobility skills to perfection (...right?).
5. Artifacts, Accessories, Weapons
Much like in the Early Access version, there will be more accessories, artifacts, and weapons that will further augment your combat prowess. You can find these items by unlocking Silver/Gold Chests, finding them in different stages, or completing the boss challenges in The Corruptor's Memory Shards. Explore every corner of the stage and you will be rewarded for your efforts.
6. Early Access Users get the full version
For those of you who bought into Early Access, we cannot thank you enough. By doing so, once the game hits the official launch date/time, you will be able to update your game and enjoy the fully version of The Devil Within: Satgat. We have had a couple of questions regarding this, so we wanted to make sure everyone was in the know.
7. Early Access Save Files
With the amount of content that is coming into the game, as well as the big changes to the story, game mechanics, and more, your save files from Early Access will not be able to be carried over. This was unfortunately inevitable with the amount of things that have changed since the start of Early Access, but we feel that players will enjoy playing with a fresh save file.

If you want to collect all of the achievements and what not before the game is updated, please do so before the launch date! After that, achievements and progress will inevitably be reset (though there are more achievements in the full version)!
Almost There!
Once again, thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. The long awaited launch day is just around the corner! Follow us on all of the different channels to stay up to date as we will be revealing more things as we head to launch!

Dev Log: Making Great Progress

Hey everyone,
its been a week since we last had a conversation with our community. This week, we wanted to share what the devilized combat looks like and some cool interesting bugs that we found (and have long since been fixed).
Devilized Skills
We have shown off that animated gif quite a bit, but today we talk a little bit more about the mechanics (without spoiling too much)!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Once you acquire the devil form, you can use it at any time (we recommend using it when there are enemies around, but feel free to do whatever).

The devilized form follows the principle of 'The best defense is an even better offense.' The devilized form will chip away at your health as you spend time in it, but it can be replenished as you keep landing attacks. However, this form's powerful nature is difficult to control and the attacks are slightly different from your normal skill set, so make sure you get used to it before you use it in a tough situation!
Finding All of the Bugs
Thanks to our Early Access community as well as those who participated in the CBT, we tracked down a lot of bugs that would have hampered the game play experience. For that and so much more, we are sincerely indebted to all of you.

That being said, not all bugs are equal and we wanted to take this time to show you some of the glorious random little bugs that we have found over the course of development.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Ever smack a boss so hard that it just bounces? There was a lot of confusion, but this has also long since been fixed.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
In one of the early versions of the game, for whatever reeason, Kim Rip decides to lie down and just... never get back up. Again, this has long since been fixed. He looks so peaceful...
Some Improvements Made
For those of you who had played the demo as well as the Early Access version, we got a lot of feedback for not just the base game systems, but also just how things were presented. Today, we talk about some of the improvements that seem small, but proved to be really beneficial changes for the game.
Unifying Terminology
Over the course of development, there were times where terminology found in the game had changed, but it wasn't properly reflected in the entirety of the game. One example is stats:

We made sure to use terms that are readily understandable (or able to be learned from playing the game). We also tried to make the numbers themselves easier for people to digest and process.

In this case, we adjusted the terminology to make sure that the Dash term is unified throughout the game (except for situations where the word Charge makes sense).
Default Skills
Another point of concern for players of the community was that the initial skill set you are given is confusing. Players thought you could only do Concentrated Counterattacks from a perfect parry rather than the dodge/dash. This was because players had to learn a skill in order to perform those attacks. We made it so that the default load-out would allow you to perform Concentrated Counterattacks from the parry, dodge, and dash.

We hope you enjoyed this small little log! As always, please let us know your feedback! The road to launch is a busy one, but we are extremely excited!

Some More Sneak Peaks!

Hello everyone,
As we get closer to launching the game (the date will be announced sooner rather than later), we are excited to show off some cool things that are going to make their way to the launch version of The Devil Within: Satgat!

While we do some teasers, we would also like to share some of the results that we got back from the CBT that we recently held.
Overall Gameplay
Amongst those who participated in the CBT, we found that a lot of users were extremely pleased with the overall gameplay as well as the flow of the game. In particular, we received a lot of positive reviews regarding the improved combat mechanics as well as the Perfect Dodge/Dash/Parry system.

We have been constantly been tweaking the timing of the Perfect Dodge/Dash/Parry system and we really think we nailed it now. The timing is a bit more precise on hard mode, but it was really good to see players adapt quickly to the timing and planning out their attacks as they continued to learn the nuances of the attacks that they can employ.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Another part of the gameplay that users enjoyed were the boss fights. This was something that people had always liked, whether it was in the first demo or during Early Access. However, we wanted to make sure that we didn't let up, that we kept making new boss fights equally as engaging.
Overall Difficulty
One of the most requested features was the difficulty settings and CBT users found that to be well balanced. Easy mode is for story viewing purposes, Normal is a balance between story and difficulty, and Hard mode is for - for a lack of better words - hardcore players. We had a few users who also really liked the idea that you are not locked into your difficulty choice and that the only times you cannot change the difficulty is DURING the boss fights.
Music Improvements
During Early Access, one of the common pieces of feedback that we got was that there were certain areas where it was too quiet. While some sections were meant to be eerily quiet, there was an overall lack of music in parts of the game where there should have been.

During the CBT, users found the music choices to be appropriate and added to the game. We are so happy to hear this as we worked tirelessly to get the right sounds for the right atmosphere. We are excited for all of you to check out the full version of the game!
Overall Story and Voice Acting
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
During the CBT, those who had played the Early Access version and had participated in the CBT found the story to flow much more naturally. They also felt that the voice acting helped bring the story to life, whether it be in Korean or in English. The voice actors for both languages worked really hard in making sure the tone of their scenes matched with the game, so we hope you guys get to check it out in the full version of The Devil Within: Satgat.
Art/Cutscene Direction
While the artwork was received well in general, there were some users who felt that certain scene animations were a bit awkward, which broke a layer of immersion for them. We are going to continue to edit and refine these parts so that players will be able to fully enjoy the game.
Bugs/Issues/Translations
While it is inevitable in a CBT, we were disappointed to hear about the bugs/issues that were in the game. Things like translations were actually in a good spot, but some awkward moments like run-off-the-screen text as well as non-translated bits made their way to the CBT. Rest assured that these issues will be resolved in the final version of the game.

We look forward to being able to share more news with you as we head towards launch!

The Plan Ahead for The Devil Within: Satgat

Hello everyone,
it has been quite some time since we last updated you. We apologize for the lengthy radio silence, but we have a lot of news that we would like to share with our audience.

It has been some time since the last update, which was all the way in July.
That update saw some huge changes, including:
 • Revamped stages filled with chests
 • Weapon variety
 • Addition of accessories and artifacts
 • New elite monsters that test your combat skills
 • Difficulty modes that can be adjusted at any time
 • Boss Challenges that reward you based on how difficult the boss has been set to
 • Fast travel in and between stages to go collect whatever was missed
 • Adjustment of the stamina system to benefit players
 • Added an anti-air skill to the concentrated counter-attacks

These changes were received well by the community, which also spurred on more feedback that we made sure to note!

We also attended Gamescom 2024 as well as the Tokyo Game Show 2024, which were huge successes! We thank everyone for participating, spreading the word, and having fun with the game. On with the news!
Price Increase for The Devil Within: Satgat
We are planning on raising the price of Early Access starting this Friday, October 18th 2024 GMT+9. If you or your friends are thinking about getting in to The Devil Within: Satgat, make sure to do so before this Friday GMT+9!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1802880/The_Devil_Within_Satgat/

When we launched Early Access in April 2024, we did so knowing that there was content to be added. We wanted to work on new and old stages, get the balance right, add all the right stuff and remove all of the bad stuff. We here at Newcore Games listened to all of the feedback we got, whether it be on the forums, on Discord, or in-person at events. We also believe that the game at launch is going to be at a great place. The price increase is being done to not only reflect how much content is going in, but also to make sure that the game remains affordable.

From late September to early October was our last sale for Early Access (this is a huge hint for what's to come). Barring any issues, there also will be a change in how the next update is going to happen because...
Regarding the Launch of The Devil Within: Satgat
Newcore Games has made so much progress that we will be able to head straight into launch by the end of the year! Again, barring any mishaps or issues, the development of the full game is progressing a lot more efficiently than previously anticipated! The game has improved in a lot of different areas and we wanted to take this time to let you know of the changes + additions that are coming to the full launch of the game!
A New Revamped Story-line
This was mentioned before, but the story for The Devil Within: Satgat has been revamped and judging from some of the testers and industry vets that got to have a look at it - it improved tremendously. Our story writer is insanely talented in taking what we had and cranking it up. We also have English voice acting added to the game! Here is a sneak peak at the intro scene with Dongbaek's English VA!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

One more sneak peak for all of you:
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
New Faces, New Dangers
Meet Shinman, the Deputy State Councillor that plays a role in how the story turns out. Arrogant, brash, and with delusions of grandeur, this Deputy State Councillor is more than capable of putting up a good fight. He is a formidable foe, but players who have been honing their skills will be able to get by him.

With the full version and the revamped storyline comes new faces that Kim Rip must get by in order to unlock the secrets of his world as well as his own memories.
The Capital
Stage 4 is all about The Capital - Kim Rip will return to the city that he was once a Royal Guard of. The reasons for his return will be revealed in the story, but the Capital has changed from a splendid prospering city into one of utter ruin, overrun by demons. Those who have been with us since the beginning will be quick to note that the change in the Capital was seen in the intro cutscenes of when they start the game.

The story unfolds quite a bit here - Kim Rip comes to grips with his past and other characters play a pivotal role in the Capital. Aside from the story, Kim Rip also gains access to powers here that have long since been teased (as well as abilities that our community have been asking for!), so we cannot wait for players to fully experience all that the Capital has to offer.
What else is being added to the game?
Without spoiling too much, Kim Rip has reasons to go back to old stages that have been altered due to events in the story. However, the story does culminate where it all began: at the Ebon Sting.
What are some new abilities that we can look forward to? What about the one part of the skill tree that we could never access?
We don't want to give too much away, but here is another sneak peak at one of the coolest things you can do in the game.

We are deeply grateful for your continued interest and support as we go towards launch. As always, please let us know your feedback!
