Wantless to enter Early Access in November

Hello passionate gamer!

We hope this announcement finds you well! Today we're excited to share some exciting news. Wantless is set to make its debut in Early Access this coming November. So are you ready to step into our dystopian world and literally explore the mental state of its people?

Discover Wantless

Our RPG is set in a decrepit future where society is either artificially asleep or living on the edge of despair. You play as Eiris, one of the last "transposers", a sort of psychiatrist with the ability to venture into the minds of patients. There, you combat their inner struggles, from fears to nightmares and addictions, in order to enhance their mental well-being. Sounds appealing? Stick around.

Some of you may have seen it, we were featured at the Future Games Show! Here is the Twin Sails Publisher Trailer in which our Early Access release was announced:

 • Over 20 hours of gameplay.

Introducing Summons

Hello inquiring gamer!

How is life treating you these days? Spring is well under way here, so we're in the process of trading our heavy coats for lighter jackets. Most of our time is spent indoors though, you know how it is! :] Anyway, development is making good progress on multiple fronts, with quite a bit of new content and features compared to the demo! We've picked one such feature to present today.

If you have played our demo, you have probably noticed that when you forge a skill with support effects, such as healing or buffing, the text mentions it "applies to all [allies]". And you may have wondered "what allies?", since Eiris is transposing alone. You would be right... So?

Enter Totems and Automatons

There are currently two types of friendlies in battle. They are customizable allies you can temporarily summon to your side in the form of skills. Simply put:

 • Totems are static but have more hp and hit a large area around themselves.
 • Automatons are mobile units that come in various shapes and sizes. For instance, the brittle Sniper charges for a turn before hitting enemies far away, while the steel Hoplite can take a hit or two without flinching.

Both are fully integrated to the Neural forge (skill crafting) system. They’re actually Form synapses, which means you get to customize your summon just like you would any other skill. Instead of determining the range and area of effect of your skill as Form synapses usually do, a Summon Form synapse determines what kind of ally will cast the skill in your stead. And there are plently of options.

A little Grunt automaton who follows you around and buffs your damage, a Totem that pushes enemies away, a poisonous Ranger? Your allies are who you want them to be.

The Summoner archetype

You can definitely build your character around your summons and become the overseer to an army of hand-made soldiers if it's that's something you enjoy (we know we do!). However, be advised that summons do come with some drawbacks.
 • If you don’t invest in them through your gear and your Mind tree pathing, they’ll be weaker and risk dying too quickly to have an impact.
 • Their base “effect power” is lower than yours, meaning the skills they cast are less effective than your own, unless you significantly upgrade them.

So, whether you just want a temporary scrap shield to draw aggro for a couple turns, or to command your own neural battalion, summons open up a world of new strategy and build possibilities!

Early access is coming this Fall and we will continue to give you news and updates along the way. We're also very eager to hear your feedback! What do you think of summons in games? Is the idea of building armies of minions appealing? Are you more of a lone wolf? Let us know!

You probably already know where to find us, but in any case, here is your reminder that we're available for a chat on Discord, and Twitter.

Thank you for reading, and as always, take care of yourself! ♥

Early Access coming soon!

Hello venturous gamers!

How are you doing these last few days? Hopefully not too bad, wherever you are. ♥

Many of you have now played our demo, thank you for that. We have gathered a ton of valuable feedback and suggestions from all of you. It's great! Naturally, the development is still ongoing, with features and changes being integrated regularly.

Today we'll take a quick look at one important aspect of any RPG: the damage types. We'll also go over a new feature we are currently working on that was not in the demo build: patient attention. But first, a little announcement.

Early Access this fall

We revealed it moments ago during the Future Game Show, Wantless will enter Early Access this fall. We are very grateful for the screen time the event offered. It was a great opportunity to gain visibility. As you would expect, the future success of Wantless depends in a large part on our ability to spread the word. So the word is now out: Early Access is just a few months away!

By the way, have you seen our first look trailer?

Damage Types

As mentionned earlier, now is as good a time as any to talk about damage types. In Wantless, there are currently four damage types: fear, pain, pure, and grief. Each enemy has different resistances to different damage types. Resistances are often associated with enemy types and their home mind realm. As an example, a Wretch, one of the first enemies you'll encounter, is resistant to Pain, but weak against Fear damage.

Each damage type is now associated with 2 Afflictions. Afflictions are Damage over Time effects that conditionally inflict damage on their target:
Fear:
Oppress: deals damage to the target every time the caster uses an Action Point.
Hyper-empathy: replays a % of the damage taken by the caster on the target.
Pain:
Wound: deals damage every time the target moves, even through forced movement.
Fragilize: deals damage every time the target takes damage (damage other than the one dealt through fragilize, that is).
Grief:
Abase: deals damage to the target when its turn starts.
Intoxicate: deals damage to the target when its turn starts, and stacks limitlessly.
Pure:
Pure damage is special, it is only dealt through special effects, pierces shields, and usually meets very little resistance.

We’ve formalized Hit damage resistance and Affliction resistance, which are base resistances that apply to all non-pure damage, before the damage-type resistances are taken into account.

We are currently at work on our talent system, the Mind Tree. Our aim is to offer the player a real choice as to what type of damage they want to favour in their builds, or which afflictions they want to develop.

For instance, Violence essentially increases all hit damage and hit damage resistance everytime any pain damage is inflicted by any entity, friend or foe. We're aiming for each damage type to have their own philosophy and effects beyond the traditional resistances and weaknesses.

Whatever build you're going for, you should feel the importance of your decisions. This is a rather big topic we'll cover more extensively at a later date!

Patient attention

The patient's subconscious is now unaware of your presence when the transposition begins, which gives you the Concealed effect. While Concealed, enemies will completely ignore you and either idle, walk around aimlessly or cast skills on each other.

This is a new feature that was not implemented in the demo. It is meant to give you the opportunity to reposition, use buffs, heal, or open the fight by taking out a priority target you might otherwise not have reached as easily.

Remaining Concealed, however, requires that you thread silently: using too much AP in a single turn, targeting an enemy with any harmful effect, or getting too close to an enemy, will all reveal you!

Here is an early preview of how it works:

Hopefully it gives you an idea of what we're aiming for.

We are also at work on several new ideas, including some that were inspired directly by your feedback. So stay tuned! We're eager to show you more of what we're up to next time!

If you want, we encourage you to wishlist Wantless on Steam.
