Chemical Reactions: New Year Update

[p]Happy new year tentacle choppers![/p][p]I hope you all head a nice break and none of your Christmas dinner leftovers turned into fungal spreading creatures from hell.[/p][p][/p][p]I wanted to share a little update on Demon Spore. One area that we did an overhaul of recently was the chemical reactions. Whilst escaping the lab you occasionally find chemicals or other substances such as a acid, water or sticky explosive gel. These can be thrown at enemies to injure them or slow them down. But these chemicals can also be combined together to create some pretty cool effects…[/p][h2]
FREEZING WATER[/h2][p]Water on it’s own isn’t super useful unless you’re trying to put out a fire that’s spreading too rapidly. But if you combine water with the freezing effect of fire a extinguisher, you can freeze enemies on the spot. This then allows you to use your fire axe to small them with a single strike.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][h2]MIXING CHEMICALS[/h2][p]The sticky gel can be used to slow down enemies and allow you to group them together attack them more easily. But if you throw acid into the sticky gel, it creates a much more dangerous reaction…[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][h2]OTHER INTERACTIONS[/h2][p]There’s many more reactions to discover in the game, including combining water with the sticky gel to make throwable explosives, setting the sticky gel on fire, throwing acid into water to make it boil etc. The idea is to encourage exploration and discovery, whilst also creating some chaos for when chemicals combine by accident and start blowing things up![/p][p][/p][h2]PLAYTESTING[/h2][p]We’re still gathering playtesters to get feedback on the game and find all the weird bugs so we can make it as polished as possible. Right now the focus is on tuning the upgrades that you get as you progress, so that they steadily get more powerful during the course of the game.
