Features:
  • Spectating system in Chapter 1 after all lives have run out.
  • Dancing emotes where you can click 'R' to dance.
  • Disabled Motion Blur until we have a setting where you can enable/disable it since the majority of players don't like it.
  • Improved respawning, you will now respawn at the closest map board instead of a random one! (Highly requested by you guys)


Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed a bug where the Resolution Scale setting could get randomly reset.
  • Fixed a bug where the jumpscare sounds didn't play in sync with the animation.
  • Potential fix for the music going insanely loud when entering a lobby.
  • Fixed the bug where the flashlight would randomly turn off in Chapter 1.
  • Fixed where notes could feature the wrong text.
  • Fixed a bug where your camera could get stuck on a monster after getting killed in Chapter 1.


Balancing:
  • You can now only die up to 10 times in Chapter 1 before you lose the game.
  • Increased the speed of the Centipede by a small bit.
  • Increased the hearing range of the Carnivorous by a small bit.
  • Added some more hints on what certain areas are for in Chapter 1
  • After respawning you have a 10 second grace period.


Improvements:
  • Added a radio around the different maps.
  • Medkits will now gradually spawn back in Hunted after last one has been used.
  • The popup showing your XP and levels is now faster.
  • You will now get proper feedback when you're actually reviving someone in Hunted.
  • Improved wording on some notifications.


Optimization:
  • RDUM Laboratories has been further optimized.
  • The Hunted map has been further optimized.

  • The Carnivorous & The Centipede on Chapter 1 now features a in world jumpscare instead of a video being played.

v0.8.6 - Optimization Update

Before posting the patch notes, this might not seem like a lot of content. However, keep in mind we are still actively working on the rebuild of the entire game, which takes place in a new wiped project. We went back to the old Surrounded project to make these changes for the quality of life & should make the overall game more accessible to older PC’s, avoid crashes while also generally improve performance.

Features:
  • Goodbye DirectX12, Hello DirectX11 👋 After aknowleding all the issues with DirectX12 like crashes, etc, and we didn't have to use Unreal Engine's nanite system which is only supported by DX12 anymore, we have downgraded. This should make the game available for everyone.
  • New initialization system that will asynchronously load maps in the lobby. You can see who has loaded the map by their name in the lobby. Everyone needs to have the map loaded before being able to start the game.
  • In world jumpscares for Hunted, there will no longer be a video played but rather something that actually happens in game.


Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed a bug where dropping any item in Hunted could make it go under ground if crouched.
  • Fixed a bug where a Syringe on the Hunted map could spawn in a very tricky way and would almost be unreachable.
  • Removed a spot in Hunted where you could go to avoid the monster.


Balancing:
  • Aggressive Child has been removed. The Child will always be passive.
  • Over half of the child has been removed from the map.


Optimization
  • Disabled Nanite to help improve GPU performance.
  • Removed unnecessary particles in Chapter 1.
  • Some people might have struggled to even launch the game, this should now work better with a rewritten initialization system.
  • Loading times should be significantly decreased.
  • Optimized some code that would happen on every frame.
  • Upgraded to Unreal Engine 5.4 which should help performance.
  • Done shadowing optimizations to the Hunted map and all scenes in general.
  • Lighting has been optimized.
  • Main Menu has been optimized.
  • All lobbies has been optimized.
  • Other minor changes.


These changes have significantly improved performance across the entire game but please do let us know if you are still having any issues with performance we are looking to improve the experience for all looking to enjoy Surrounded even while we are working around the clock on the rebuild!
