Camera rotation!

[p]One of the most common requests from our playtesting and the Demo release is the desire to rotate the camera. This is totally expected, it's a common thing in the genre to rotate the view! Why didn't we have it?
[/p][p]You can also read this on our website!

Read the dev log[/p][p][/p]
Evoking feelings with design
[p]With the game we're making, we were being intentional about the lack of rotation initially, because we want the game to create a certain friction and feeling for the player, as they approach early mid game.

Not only this, but we were leaning on the lack of camera rotation as part of the feeling of ... tightness. Of space feeling small. It was intentional that the game felt a little pressure so that you notice the narrative and mechanics intertwine, and in our play testing this was coming through well.[/p][p]Many players remarked on how, once you get to a certain research level, things felt really cramped and they had a strong desire to expand or explore the space more.[/p][p][/p]
But if it feels bad is it always good?
[p]This was kind of an interesting question to explore from a designer perspective. I don't think the game ever felt bad because of the lack of rotation, but it does become a point of friction that we can question whether it's helping or hurting the experience.[/p][p]Or, rather, if we can rotate the camera, does the space feel small still? Does the feeling still land? Given how the rest of the mechanics work, rotating the view doesn't really make it feel bigger... so why not allow it?[/p][p][/p]
Content reasons...
[p]A lot of the buildings just don't have any detail in the back, as I was originally working on the premise that we'd never see em.

This is easy to fix and many buildings have already been updated.[/p][p][/p]
Technical reasons...
[p]Curiously, the game code has always supported rotation for the longest time, it's just disabled... why?[/p][p]There's was a somewhat funny reason: Bloom.[/p][p]This is what it looks like when you rotate the camera, and the sun hits the water (or anything else shiny enough)... [/p][p][/p][p]This is not a hard problem to solve, we can clamp the brightness going into the bloom and we have a much nicer experience.[/p][p][/p]
Camera rotation!
[p]You can see the rotation + the clamped lighting, it looks a lot nicer when it isn't so bright 🍂🍂 In the next build, you can rotate the camera and let us know how it feels. You can view it below or on our dev log here.[/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

This build adds audio options in the settings menu, and implements the first fix attempt for some users seeing flashing black boxes.

Fixes / Changes
- Add tabs to the settings menu
- Add audio volume options for music, sounds, voice
- Fix a few settings not showing their remembered value in ui

Audio settings
Nothing surprising, just adding the missing options to control the audio levels ✨

Thanks for all the players that reported issues and tested, we look forward to more feedback!

1.0.19 - Demo Hotfix

This is another hotfix build for the demo!

This build tries to clarify how input building requirements work.

Fixes / Changes
- Show an icon for the direction of input requirement
- Show some text in world for the input requirement issue (see below)

Input Requirements
Previously, building input requirements were shown as a simple piece of text in the pre-build info. This was a little unclear for many so we 1. Switched the order of the wording 2. added icons to clarify that the words are a direction. 3. Display the information on the game world as well!

1.0.17 - Demo Hotfix

This is another hotfix build for the demo!

This build tries to clarify the last research level in the demo, and introduce more flexibility in the experience.

Fixes / Changes
- Slow down intro rotation to reduce motion sickness
- Add 'pause to read' option, changing the default to false. See below
- Add clarity to the descriptions of Storage Foundation (Waste), Resource foundation (NANO)
- Add hint from the drone for Waste + Nano if you are still looking for it. These new prompts will get VO soon.

Pause To Read
Previously, when the hover panel/build/upgrade info was displayed it would pause as to not waste time of day, in an effort for you not to feel rushed as time ticks past. From feedback, this seems like a preference people prefer to not have enabled, so we're trying with the default to off. If you'd like that behaviour, turn it on in the settings menu.

Black flashing blocks
Please note if you are experiencing this, we are aware of it and are working on fixing it.
You can visit our discord to help fix that. We also have a work around while you wait.

Thanks for all the players that reported issues and tested, we look forward to more feedback!
