Inside Our Gamescom & PAX West Adventures

[p]This summer marked a huge milestone for Seismic Squirrel. After years of [/p][p]development on Aether & Iron, we're finally sharing our work with the public! [/p][p]Most recently, we met with press and content creators at Gamescom and PAX West. [/p][p]I joined the team in March and had never attended a game industry convention, so [/p][p]I wasn't sure what to expect. What I discovered was a whirlwind that left me [/p][p]exhausted but energized. We sat down for nearly 40 interviews between the two [/p][p]events. We also connected in person with some of our marketing and localization [/p][p]partners, attended educational talks, explored other developers' games on the [/p][p]convention floors, and hit up a slew of after parties for networking and game [/p][p]demos. [/p][p][/p][p]The best part was definitely meeting several team members in person for the first [/p][p]time though. We've become so accustomed to remote work and only seeing one [/p][p]another through screens. It was nice to sit down together and talk about things [/p][p]other than work for once. [/p][p][/p][p]The reception for Aether & Iron exceeded my expectations. The decopunk art [/p][p]drew people in, the character writing sparked genuine reactions, and most players [/p][p]took to the turn-based vehicle combat quite naturally, exploring all ways to engage [/p][p]enemies and asking questions about what happens when you hit the civilians on [/p][p]the road. Multiple interviews ran long because people didn't want to stop playing. [/p][p]The voice acting and audio design consistently drew praise, with several people [/p][p]commenting on how immersive the sound work made the experience feel. [/p][p]We wrapped up at PAX feeling exhausted but energized. Watching people connect [/p][p]with our game makes it all worthwhile! [/p][p][/p][p]Next up, we’re excited to share Aether & Iron with an even wider audience by making our demo available during the month of October 2025. If you haven’t already, be sure to wishlist the game to keep up to date on development![/p][p][/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p]

Aether and Iron has lashings of Bioshock and BG3, and it's an instant wishlist

I'm transported back to New York in 1939: America's rising star metropolis, teetering on the brink of war. Art deco is in fashion, industry tycoons are setting up shop in the city of the future, but beneath a veneer of gold lurks unrest. To quote LA Noire, "undercurrents, where not everything is as it seems." But this isn't the New York we see in the history books; it's Seismic Squirrel's allohistorical '30s New York, powered by anti-gravity technology that has lifted the city high into the sky, reminiscent in many ways of 2K's BioShock Infinite. This is my introduction to Aether and Iron, the developer's debut RPG, and I'm obsessed from the jump.
