Launch Features Preview

First, thank you all so much for playing our Steam Next Fest Demo! It’s been amazing to see the feedback and love the game has been getting and it genuinely means the world to us.

If you haven’t already, get your D&D group, board game squad, or your most trustworthy group of friends together for a game this weekend! When Steam Next Fest ends so does the Demo, on February 13. Your saves will be carried over if you purchase the full game for $4.99 at launch, on March 2nd.

We’ve been working hard at Tributary Games to polish up and expand the game for launch. Our changelog for version 1.0 is so large we’re having to condense it down for readability!

For now, here’s some of the spiciest features we’re adding for launch:

Let's go into more detail and give these previews the royal treatment they deserve...
Dynasty Events
An entirely brand new type of Event - The Dynasty Event!

Did the Barons blow up the palace in a previous game? Did you send off an expedition to Chur on the last turn? Did you think you escaped the bank of Salvint and Gall just because you were assassinated?

Now, in these realm-shaping special Events, you’ll suffer the consequences of your past decisions even if you’re now playing as the new boss. These exciting new carry-over Events can be spawned from existing storylines in the game, such as becoming a werebeast, or can be brand new storylines of their own - such as the terrifying invention of something called a ‘decapitator’ (hint: its equivalent in our world was a real pain in the neck for monarchs. Just ask Louis XVI).

It’s been a huge task to add these to the game, and was based on feedback from our Discord. This was by far the top-requested feature in the survey we ran just before the end of the year. Our players love our game’s reactivity to their past decisions, so we decided to pull out all the stops for this one.
Three new Laws of the Land
A smart Monarch uses Laws to modify voting to their advantage. A less-than-smart Monarch does this too, but they might find their Nobles not voting quite as expected…

We’ve added three brand new Laws of the Land. They are:
Royal Gamble
If your Treasury needs a boost and you’re feeling lucky, why not wager a hefty chunk on one vote choice passing? Double your money if you predict the right vote! Big emphasis on ‘if’ there.
Call for Unity
Do your Nobles need a bit of encouragement to overcome party lines? Or are you faced with a vote choice you know they can’t resist? Use Call for Unity and gain +1 Stability if your Nobles vote as an overwhelming majority on one option.
Stop the Count
You’re maybe the best Monarch ever. The greatest. The Nobles, they’re very, very impressed with you. So true. So stop them from wasting time discussing things, and halve that vote timer. Have the vote close immediately when the timer runs out, too, just to really emphasize your greatness.
Double the outfits for Monarchs and Regions!
Capes, harps, skulls, scepters, giant axes and fancy dresses! After purchasing the game and linking their account to Twitch, players can show off their custom Noble in friends’ Party Games or in their favourite streamer’s Twitch Games.

We’ve also included more outfits for randomly generated non-Premium players. Every Noble, randomly generated or lovingly customised, will look and feel unique.

We’re also including Twitch Drop exclusive Outfits. Dedicated watchers of KOTC will receive these special outfits based on time playing with selected streamers.
Whims of Wizards and a ton of new Events!
This was originally going to be its own update, but we’ve rolled it into launch - two epic new Whims of Wizards storylines!

Find out what happens when wizards’ ambitions clash with the decrees of the Monarch in these bumper-length Event chains: “Creepy Trees” and “Apprentice Troubles”.

On the topic meet our charming new Wizard, who you'll be hearing more from at Launch...

In addition to the Whims of Wizards, we’re adding a ton of new content, including:
 • Another NPC marriage option - this time, you can marry the mysterious Oreid!
 • New Dynasty Events:
 • Printing Press Event chain
 • Guillotine Event chain
 • New Baby Event chain
 • Vanity Project Event chain
 • The Monk’s Book Event chain
 • New Solo Events:
 • An Innovation!
 • Shark Beach
 • Restless Dead
 • Rogue Golem
 • Stone Maiden
 • Meteor Strike
 • Escaped Experiment
 • Wreck in Contested Waters
 • Misdeed Mixup
 • Fireside Chats
 • Prison Labour
 • Swords into Ploughshares
 • Scheme Reactivity Events - now the consequences of certain Schemes have a chance to carry over into the next reigns!
And much, much more to come...
This is barely scratching the surface of what is going to be our biggest update to the game to date. We’d like to thank our streamers, fans and especially our Discord for helping make King of the Castle what it is today.

If you have feedback, a suggestion, or just want to show off how fancy your Monarch is, join our Discord today:

And don’t forget to wishlist! We recently announced our price point of $4.99, a pauper’s pittance when compared with the 870,000 total words in the game. You’ve got less than 2 weeks before King of the Castle is out - check back then for a full list of Launch features!

Happy reigns!
