V0.9 “Adding Meerkats” Update OUT NOW (meerkats not included)

It’s been a good month for King of the Castle, with multiple streams every day and more people flooding into the official Discord! With the Play on Twitch mode proving so successful, we can’t wait for the game to come out early next year so more people can explore Party Game mode.

Big thanks to RevMeerkat for providing the name for this update - even though it’s damnable lies. There are no meerkats in this game. Yet. You can find him streaming King of the Castle regularly and other great stuff here.

[h2]King of the Castle v0.9 “Adding Meerkats” includes:[/h2]

[h3]Six new negative buildings![/h3]

• We’ve added six new buildings which can be funded in the auction screen.
  
• These buildings will decrease stats, rather than increase them. This will empower the Nobles to pursue their schemes even more effectively.
  
• The new buildings are as follows:
  
  
  • Theatre (decreases Authority)
    
  • Prison (decreases Stability)
    
  • Thieves Guild (decreases Trade)
    
  • Deer Park (decreases Farming)
    
  • Observatory (decreases Faith)
    
  • Stadium (decreases Military)

[h3] Quality of life changes [/h3]

• We’ve made a number of small changes to improve the feel of the game and gameplay experience.
  
• Region banners will now fade out when you zoom in, allowing you to see event notifications more clearly.
  
• In Party Game mode, the host can now show or hide the lobby code at will.
  
• The Taxation page now displays how much tax will be taken from the Nobles.
  

[h3]Update to buildings generation[/h3]

• We've also made more changes to the Building screen - now, the auction will now only generate one of each building type.
  
• This change proved very important with the addition of new Building types!
  
• It also helps balance the game so one region’s scheme isn’t too heavily favoured or harmed by the RNG.
  

[h2]Our new update also includes:[/h2]

A number of key balance changes to the game:

• The Treasury cost of the ‘foreign mercenary’ bodyguards has been halved.
  
• ‘Scheme Reaction’ events will now clearly signpost which options cause delays to ongoing schemes.
  
• Tweaks to event generation and stat penalties in events throughout the game.
  
• A substantial rebalancing pass over the Expedition to Chur event chain.
  

The following polish changes to King of the Castle:

• The Leave command is now available in Party Game mode.
  
• Tutorial text has been refined and improved.
  
• Performance work has been done on lists of Nobles to ensure the game can handle large volumes of players more efficiently.
  
• Wealth increase strings have been updated for the Golden Choice Law.
  
• Updated sizing to make challenges easier to parse.
  
• Foley pass for Voting screens, including a bell to tell you when voting can end.
  
• A new migration system for save files, allowing us to update the save file structure without invalidating old save files.
  

We’ve resolved the following bugs:

• Fixes to potential loops in lookaheads that could rarely cause crashes.
  
• Victory Points will now correctly be reset for second Rebellions.
  
• Timers on the Successor Vote will now work correctly.
  
• Various fixes to small bugs with challenges in random events.
  
• Typo’s fixed in the Claimants screen.
  
• We have made fixes to the anonymous voting law to ensure anonymity.
  
• Numerous content fixes.
