v1.01.01 – 25th September 2024
NEW MARKET GARDEN CAMPAIGN NOW AVAILABLE AS DLC! New Features and Fixes:
[expand]
  • Added version control system for multiplayer games. It issues a warning when you log into the Multiplayer section if a newer version is available that has significant differences (a major update that can affect the multiplayer games if players have different versions) from the current version. You cannot join a Live game if the game host is using a version that is significantly different (meaning a minor update could be ignored), and you will get a warning when you want to play the PBEM turn using a version significantly different from the one that was used on the previous turn in that match.
  • Added “Sleep mode” feature for units. You can now press the “Z” hotkey, while a unit is selected to make the unit not count as “not moved yet” and be ignored by “N” and “Shift+N” hotkeys. If you press “Z” once - it will only last 1 turn, if you press it twice - it will last, until you disable it. Pressing “Z” for the third time puts the unit out of “Sleep mode”. This feature was requested and suggested by the players, and we are happy to deliver it.
  • Added the Brightness setting in Video Settings.
  • Added the recommendation pop-up to play Tutorial before starting the campaign if the player has not completed any Campaign mission yet.
  • Added a toggle button to show/hide all autosave files in the save files list.
  • Now Core units have a different frame in the units list to better differentiate them from Non core units. Fixes:
  • Fixed a crash that could prevent the game from being launched because in some cases the game settings file would not be created correctly.
  • Fixed a PBEM Multiplayer crash that sometimes occurred when using Assault action under specific conditions.
  • Fixed a Multiplayer bug that could cause the game to pass the turn to the player who is no longer in the game.
  • Fixed crash that could happen when one of the players leaves a multiplayer game.
  • Fixed crash if a mission is restarted while a unit is selected.
  • Now you cannot leave a Multiplayer Live game for the first 60 seconds to prevent players from accidentally leaving the game while they wait for other players.
  • Various UI fixes for 4K resolution.
  • Fixed a crash caused by issues with unit selection in the unit list when the player has a lot of units and they would sometimes be selected incorrectly.
  • Fixed issues with mouse tracing that could result in the cursor targeting one tile but selecting adjacent.
  • Adjusted Gamepad control hints positioning.
  • Fixed a crash with Gamepad controls. When pressing F11 in the Acquire and Save/Load screens hints would disappear causing the game to crash.
  • Fixed a bug where a Multiplayer game UI would show a minimap from the previous game during the next game setup.
  • Fixed a UI glitch with Gamepad - while browsing the Unit list, if you moved from the Level Up tab to transport it would double the controls hints for Gamepad.
  • Fixed crash that could happen when deleting a unit Camouflage preset.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause minimap to display the incorrect vision zone.
  • Fixed a crash that could happen when playing with the Gamepad and trying to open the Map description.
  • Fixed glitch that allowed using enemy actions (on the Actions panel) after the game is finished.
  • Fixed a crash in PBEM Multiplayer games that could happen when you tried to review the game.
  • Fixed a crash in Multiplayer games that could happen when you tried to review the game in which every player has not played even 1 turn.
  • Removed a button to delete the Basic camouflage preset in Unit customization. (Previously that button did not do anything)
  • Added a visual state for the Customise button (Unit customization), so that now it is easier to understand that the player is in the Unit customization section.
  • Improved the Objectives list logic. Now if you click to hide it, it will be reopened only when you get a new objective or have some progress in the existing one. (Previously, it would reopen all the time on any player’s action)
  • Some improvements for the game Review screen. Now you can go to the Main menu directly from it.
  • You can no longer use quick save and quick load while in Photomode. (Previously, it caused some issues)
  • Fixed a camera bug that could cause the camera to go off the grid and stop responding.
  • Fixed a bug with a scroll bar in the Save/Load menu that could work incorrectly with a large number of saved files.
  • UI fixes for objectives list - it no longer has a larger action area (responding to mouse clicks) than is visibly displayed.
  • Minor localization fixes (including HE_Attack and AP_Attack not being localised in a rare case) Editor fixes:
  • Fixed crash in Editor (If you unselected the menu and closed Editor, then going back to Editor would cause a crash.)
  • Fixed a bug that could cause the game to crash when removing a preset in Editor.
  • Now you cannot save a custom map if you have not set HQ flags and Deployment tiles (at least 1) for every player listed in the player list. Also, added a warning when you try to save the custom map informing you which players are still missing Deployment setups.
  • In Editor, you no longer can place presets on Water, Cliff, and Rought terrains.
  • Fixed a crash in Editor, that could happen when you try to select a preset.
  • Fixed a bug in Editor that caused Presets to split into separate objects after saving the map. Now it should be more convenient to use the Editor present for map creation.

Dev log #3 - New buildings and landmarks in Market Garden DLC

Hello!

It is Oleksandr from Starni Games with the new Dev log entry. This time we will look at all the new buildings and landmark structures you will have to fight amidst in the new Market Garden DLC.

NEW TALL BUILDINGS
Market Garden features a variety of new tall city buildings, that could be destroyed by either side. We want to show the difference between Normandy and the Netherlands not only in terms of gameplay but also visually. Here are some examples:

Same as in Normandy, all buildings could be damaged or destroyed and have different states of destruction. Here is an example of a damaged building:

And here is a destroyed building:

NEW LANDMARKS
We want to replicate the Market Garden operation in the best way possible. To that end, we recreated some of the iconic landmarks of Nijmegen. So, you will have to fight around these iconic bridges, towers, and fort in Nijmegen.

The Waalbrug
The arch bridge over the Waal River in Nijmegen is where a lot of iconic World War II photos were taken. Now you can make your own ones in Headquarters: World War II.

The Spoorbrug
Another key bridge - a railway bridge to be precise - over the Waal River. A place of strategic importance when fighting in a city split by a river.

And the towers near the bridge:

The Kruittoren
The Gunpowder Tower is a remnant of the old city wall of Nijmegen and is located on the Parkweg, on the edge of the Kronenburgerpark where some of the fighting is taking place in the scenario.

Fort Beneden Lent
The 19th-century fort’s position allows it to be a useful asset in defending the railroad bridge. And its vicinity.

Belvédère
The Belvédère is a former watchtower in the Dutch city of Nijmegen.

To see these iconic locations and lead your troops to liberate them - join us on September 25th and explore the Operation Market Garden.

See you next time!

Dev log #2 - The British campaign in the Market Garden DLC

Hello!

It is Oleksandr from Starni Games with the new Dev log entry. This time we will look at the British campaign around which the entire Market Garden DLC is built.

NEW CAMPAIGN

Market Garden features a new British campaign that follows closely after the Normandy events. Here is the operation list:

1. Road to Valkenswaard
2. Liberation of Eindhoven
3. Liberation of Nijmegen
4. The Battle of Son
5. The Waal Crossing
6. The Elst Assault
7. The Battle of Highway 69
8. Operation Berlin (Arhnem)

The campaign follows a British ground troops unit tasked with reaching the Allied paratroopers that landed in the German rear and are holding key bridges for the main forces' advance.

The operation starts well, but the enemy offers increasingly greater resistance. Due to a number of enemy counterattacks - you have to slow down your advance and even move back to prevent the encirclement. These unfortunate delays put the paratroopers in a dire situation, so your new objective is to help evacuate the surviving paratroopers and help them join main forces and retreat to more tenable positions.

The Market Garden campaign has historically controversial results and we wanted to reflect that in our presentation of these events.

When working on the battle maps we were trying to keep maximum authenticity and present the operation Market Garden as best as we can. We also wanted each mission to have interesting primary and secondary objectives that made sense historically.

Another topic of discussion was to make sure our Market Garden maps look visually different from the Normandy maps, so that you could visually tell you are no longer in France. To achieve that we added a lot of new assets - houses, new buildings, and landmarks. You could clearly see that cities differ a lot, while villages are more alike to our Normandy maps, as there are fewer things we could add that would feel distinct.

The landmarks are a big part of making the maps look authentic and real. We added a number of well-known buildings and structures, such as the Nijmegen bridges and the historical buildings surrounding them. Some maps - like Nijmegen - require a lot of unique assets, while others - like a battle on the road in the middle of nowhere - require no unique assets to feel real.

The campaign features new UK, US, and German units, a new British character, 3 new British heroes, and an updated set of British awards. Although, the awards are a sore point for the team - there are not so many historically accurate new awards we could provide to the player that would fit the character’s rank and achievements, so we had to use some of the ones we also awarded in Normandy - there is just not so many other existing real awards that we could add. Still, we tried to add a few new ones that felt right (mostly from other nations, as key British awards were already explored in the Normandy campaign).

To sum up, 8 new challenging battles await you with new units, environment assets, characters, heroes, awards, and unique combat situations. We really hope that you will enjoy your time in the Netherlands no less than you did in Normandy. While we keep working to improve the game and provide new challenges for your tactical skills.

See you next time!
