When is the Steam Playtest available to play?
The first Stampede: Racing Royale Steam Playtest opens at 10am BST/2am PT/5am ET on July 27, and closes at 10am BST/2am PT/5am ET on August 1. Players who have successfully requested access to the playtest will receive an email, to the account connected to their Steam profile, with full details on how to get access.
What content and features will be included in Steam Playtests?
Steam Playtests will include the core gameplay experience from Stampede: Racing Royale: 60-player kart racing matches, where you will race and battle over three rounds, until one champion is crowned. 20 competitors are eliminated in the first two rounds, before the final 20 players compete for the win.
For the Steam Playtest beginning July 27, four eight race tracks and one battle arena will feature, randomly selected for each round. There will also be 55 cosmetic items for you to discover and select for your character or kart. Many of those items are unlockable via account progression – compete in matches and earn XP to progress through up to 60 levels and unlock rewards. This is just a small selection of the maps, features, and ways to play that are currently in development.
What is the minimum PC specifications to play?
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 CPU @3.20GHz
RAM: 8 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 / AMD Radeon RX 560
OS: Windows 10
How can I unlock and equip different cosmetic items?
Any helmets and outfits for your character that you have unlocked can be equipped in the Wardrobe menu. Cycle between the different tabs to choose from your items. Some cosmetic items will be immediately available, while others can be unlocked as you progress in Stampede: Racing Royale.
How do I select a different kart?
Change the design of your kart and its wheels, and choose from the three different kart variants, by heading to the Garage menu. All three of the kart variants – Light, Stock, and Heavy – have differing handling attributes, and each have a variety of visual designs to choose from. Some designs will be available immediately, while others can be unlocked via progression.
How do I change my display name?
On the main menu of the Stampede: Racing Royale, select the section in the top-left of the screen, either by clicking or using the controller button shown. Here, you’ll find an option to type in your name, which will display above your kart during events, and on the results screens.
How similar is the Steam Playtest version of the game to Early Access?
In terms of performance, whilst we expect any Steam Playtests of Stampede: Racing Royale to be a fun and smooth experience, many areas of the game remain in development. This means players may encounter technical issues we expect to be resolved by the beginning of Early Access, and some maps will be missing artwork and assets. The Community team will be operating channels for players to report any issues they experience.
In terms of content, the selection of maps, features, and progression options are a small slice of what is currently in development for Stampede. Our Early Access launch will bring a host of new maps, cosmetic items, and ways to play - and we'll continue adding to this throughout the EA window.
Do I keep my progress and cosmetic items when Early Access begins?
No, any unlocked and items and progression during Steam Playtests will not be retained by players once Early Access begins. This will also be the case if there are multiple Steam Playtests; your progression and items will not carry over between them.
We know this is important to many players and realise that it sucks! As we continue to develop Stampede at this early stage, and optimise areas of the game, resetting systems and progression is essential. Changes to how players can progress, and how and where items are unlocked, are also likely to be tweaked, meaning resets are required to ensure parity and balance in Stampede.
Who will I be matched against in Steam Playtest lobbies?
When entering a match, players will either join an active lobby, or trigger a new lobby if one is not already available. In these lobbies, players can match against up to 59 other real players, who are on the same server and also entering a match.
Are there different servers to select for different regions?
Yes. Head to the Settings menu, where you’ll find an option to select servers for different regions. For the most stable experience, we highly recommend using the server for the region you are based in.
