Dev Log #1 - Stampede: Racing Royale

Hey everyone,

The Stampede Dev Log begins today! These series of articles aim to keep you informed on what the Stampede: Racing Royale team here are working on, explain how we’re using your feedback, and deliver a little insight into our chaotic kart racer. Think of it is a neat ‘in the know’ thing for the most dedicated members of our community.

After folks had a chance to play what we’re creating for the very first time, now seems a good time to drop Dev Log #1! You ready?
THANK YOU
First things first, a super-sized THANK YOU to everyone who jumped into our first Steam Playtest. We’re thankful for two reasons. Firstly, your willingness to try an early slice of the game provides our development team with valuable information to help Stampede’s development. Secondly, the amount of feedback and suggestions we’ve received from players, either via our survey or Steam Discussions, has been fantastic.

By rolling out an early, work-in-progress version of this game to the public, we’re putting a lot of trust in players. We want to bring you along on this development journey, and that means having faith you’ll ‘get’ that things are not quite where we want them right now. To see so many players understanding that process, and sending us constructive feedback, is genuinely amazing. So yeah… thank you!
ADDRESSING YOUR FEEDBACK
We’ve been going through all the comments, bug reports, survey submissions, and more to help us understand what to focus on going forward with Stampede.

For example, we’ve seen lots of positive feedback so far on the general direction of customisation items, and the fun cosmetic stuff you can unlock, so we’ll continue down that road. We also see the fair points on kart physics and ‘jostling’ with other karts being unpredictable, so we’ll keep working on that. We hear the requests for the ability to party up with friends, and the ideas around introducing more varied music and audio, so our team are exploring both of those topics.

That’s just picking out a handful of common topics we’ve identified from the playtest. Many suggestions will take time to address, and some will be more achievable than others, but we’re doing our upmost to take what you’re telling us and hook it up to our plans. Even at this early stage in development, it’s cool to see that in action.
NEXT PLAYTEST WHEN?
Alrighty then – let’s look forward! With Early Access set for later this year, we have plenty of work to do. That work includes creating an updated version of the game for our next Steam Playtest, which we will confirm dates and details for very soon.

With a second playtest around the corner, one thing we’d like to flag with you now is to not expect significant changes in the overall experience, or amount of content in the game. With a small turnaround time, our focus for the next playtest is optimisations, fixes, balances, and sneaking in a couple of player-requested things. We’ll share full details ahead of the playtest going live. More big stuff will come later!

That’s it for our first Stampede Dev Log. #2 will be with you after that second playtest. Have we said thank you enough times yet?
