History of Punk - Important People

[p]Hey Punks,[/p][p][/p][p]We are half way through the History of Punk, this time we investigate the different people who brought punk to the forefront. [/p][p][/p][h2]The Ramones[/h2][p]The Ramones were one of the first bands to ignite punk’s global popularity. They set the blueprints for punks with short songs, buzzsaw guitars and chant-along choruses. The original members were Joey Ramone, Johnny Ramone, Dee Dee Ramone, and Tommy Ramone. The Ramones made their reputation with their live energetic performances at the CBGB club. “I Wanna Be Sedated” was just one of their titles that brought punk to the limelight.[/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p] [/p][h2]Sex Pistols[/h2][p]I’ve already mentioned Sex Pistols a couple times in these logs, but their importance to creating the punk movement of the late 1970s in the UK shouldn’t be understated. The original members were Jonny Rotten, Steve Jones, Paul Cook, and Glen Matlock. Their first single “Anarchy in the U.K.” was a call to arms and state-of-the-nation. Unfortunately the Sex Pistol didn’t stick around very long with the band breaking up in January 1978. Their short existence however brought punk to the UK and at a global level.[/p][p][/p][h2]Vivienne Westwood[/h2][p]Vivienne Westwood was a British designer whose store SEX was the hub of punk fashion in the 70’s. Her former partner Malcolm McLaren co-founded the shop with her and managed the Sex Pistols so Vivienne designed the band’s clothing for their shows. Ragged tee shirts, bondage pants and more were just some of the most notable fashions. These fashions brought a new wave of punk aesthetic and visual expression. [/p][p][/p][p]There are a ton more people that brought punk to a global influence but I couldn’t get to them this time. If there are any other people that I might have missed, do let me know.[/p][p][/p][p]Check out the Dead Pets Demo here![/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink] [/p][p]-riv otter[/p][p]

History of Punk - Punk Events

[p]Hey Punks,[/p][p][/p][p]Day 2 of Steam Next Fest and Punk is going strong.[/p][p][/p][p]Today we take a peek at some of the events that really push punk into relevancy.[/p][p][/p][h2]CBGB[/h2][p]One of the first important events to really boost punk into popularity are the performances in the CBGB club. The club was founded in New York City which became a forum for American punk and new wave of rising bands. The Ramones, one of the earliest punk bands, got their rise because of CBGB. Even in the 90s, CBGB was associated with Sum 41, Green Day, Guns n Roses and more. Unfortunately the club closed in October 2006. It’s hard to imagine where punk would be without CBGB.
[/p][h2]Sex Pistol[/h2][p]In the mid 1970s, the band Sex Pistol rose in popularity with their provocation in the music and the release of “Anarchy in the UK”. The band and their music laid the groundwork to bring punk to a global influence.[/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p][/p][h2]Rock against Racism[/h2][p]In the mid to late 1970s, a movement was formed in the UK which assembled musicians from all backgrounds and ethnicities. The movement used reggae, rock and punk for the organisation’s message. On April 30th 1978, the movement amassed over 100,000 people in a carnival which marched seven miles from Trafalgar Square to an open-air concert at Victoria Park, in the heart of the National Front stronghold. This event was described as the concert that united a nation. They still continue to campaign for equality today.[/p][p][/p][p]Check out the Dead Pets Demo here![/p][p][/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p][p]-riv otter[/p]

History of Punk - The Origin

[p]Hey Punks,

Dead Pets Unleashed is joining Steam Next Fest this week!
[/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]
With Dead Pets obviously having its roots in punk, I want to go over the history of punk starting with the origin!

Punk music started to form in the early 1970s in the undergrounds of New York and London to challenge the status quo. Pushed by the youth, it was a cry for change from the outsiders against the mainstream culture. The Talking Heads, Blondie, and many other bands performed together at popular clubs expanding the reach of punk. While it may have started in the US, the culture spread to the UK in response to the dire economy with the band Sex Pistols.

Punk now has evolved into a wide array of variance to it. Hardcore punk, Pop punk, Punk rock, Anarcho punk, and so many more. Safe to say punk is now a part of history. Tomorrow I will take a deeper look into the different punk events that really catapulted punk into the popularity it sees today.

Akupara Games Publishing Dead Pets Unleashed

[p]Hey punks,[/p][p]
I’m the community manager and we are the publisher band: Akupara Games.[/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]Dead Pets was one of the unfortunate indie games among the sea of games that got cancelled in 2024. We think that is bullshit so we’re going somewhere that many others are afraid to do and revive a cancelled project. We would hate to see all the hard work the developers, artists, producers, and others who work on the game go to waste. [/p][p]It’s time to get punk, we are reviving Dead Pets Unleashed! The game is making a resurgence to wicked status. I’ll share more once they become available. [/p][p]It’s time to get punk, we are reviving Dead Pets Unleashed![/p][p][/p][p]For now though, please give Dead Pets a wishlist.[/p][p][/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p][p]-riv otter[/p][p]

Designing our protagonist Gordy from a feminist perspective

***small spoilers***

It's Astrid, Game Director of Dead Pets Unleashed, checking in with another small behind-the-scenes look at Dead Pets Unleashed.

If you've played our free demo, you already know our main character, Gordy. She is a bit of a mess, always speaks her mind, and struggles with commitment and responsibilities.

Ida Hartmann, Ame Searle, and I wrote her like this because we often find that female protagonists in books, films, and games are written in a specific way to be "allowed" to play the main character. Even a feminist icon like Ripley from Alien has to be perfect; she is strong, smart, and effortlessly sexy. I know that is the stereotype of any action hero, but I still think it creates an image of women that is impossible to reflect yourself in.

Gordy is not perfect at all; she is human first and foremost, and sometimes she makes irresponsible choices, like borrowing money from Jay and struggling to pay him back. She drinks too much and drifts without much direction other than her dream of playing with the punk band.

Most of the team behind Dead Pets Unleashed is based in Denmark, a country with extreme privilege, and I wanted that reflected in Gordy's character. She often complains about her money struggles to her friend Kela but forgets that, unlike Kela, Gordy actually has financial support from her parents when she needs it. The safety that provides makes it easier for Gordy to live her life and be irresponsible—an option not available for her friend Kela.

I hope we have created a protagonist for Dead Pets Unleashed that is more human/demon, she may not always be likable but I think it´s easier to relate to her.
