Our Inspirations Behind Wandering Sword!

Greetings Swordsmen!

In this post, we would like to share with you how Wandering Sword - a wuxia based RPG that we've been pouring our hearts and souls into for the past 3 years - came about.

“Wuxia” (Chinese characters)

For those who may not be familiar, the word 'wuxia' is actually 2 characters in Chinese. 'Wu' means martial arts, and 'Xia' means chivalry. Put together, it means using martial arts to perform acts of chivalries to protect the weak.

Wuxia games: Heroes of Jin Yong (left), Xiao Ao Jiang Hu (right)

Our love for wuxia stories began decades ago, when we first played iconic wuxia games like Heroes of Jin Yong and Xiao Ao Jiang Hu. We were instantly hooked, and spent countless hours immersed in these captivating worlds filled with martial arts, romance, and honor.

Decades later, when we set out to develop our own game, we knew without a doubt that it had to be a wuxia game. It was our desire to bring back the magic of these beloved games into the world, and create a game that would transport players into a world of martial arts and adventure.

With this in mind, we set out to create Wandering Sword - a game that would pay tribute to the legendary writer Jin Yong and his iconic wuxia novels. We wanted to capture the essence of what made these stories so captivating, while also offering a fresh take on the genre.

To achieve this, we spent countless hours brainstorming, researching, and prototyping. We looked at other successful wuxia games and drew inspiration from their mechanics, storytelling, and art styles. But we also wanted to add our own unique twist to the formula.

One of the things that sets Wandering Sword apart from other wuxia games is its pixel art style. While many modern games strive for hyper-realistic graphics, we felt that the pixel art style was the perfect fit for our game. It reminded us of the classic games we loved so much, and it allowed us to create a vibrant and colorful world that was filled with character and personality.

Another key aspect of Wandering Sword is its combat system. We wanted to create a system that was both engaging and accessible, and that could appeal to both casual and hardcore gamers. After many iterations and prototypes, we finally settled on a hybrid system that combines real-time and turn-based elements. This allows players to choose between strategizing and planning their moves, or a play style that keeps the pace of the game moving.

But Wandering Sword is more than just a game about martial arts and combat. It's also a game about friendship, romance, and honor. In the game, players will meet a wide range of characters, each with their own unique personalities and motivations. Some will become friends, others will become rivals, and some may even become love interests.

Encounter a cast of colorful characters in Wandering Sword!

And of course, no wuxia game would be complete without a gripping story. The story of Wandering Sword follows an ordinary man who is thrust into the world of martial arts and must navigate a treacherous web of alliances, feuds, and betrayals. Along the way, he will encounter a cast of colorful characters, each with their own motivations and secrets. The story follows a typical Jin Yong'ish formula, but we've added our own twists and surprises along the way.

Our goal with Wandering Sword is to create a game that captures the spirit and essence of wuxia, while also offering a fresh take on the genre. We want to transport players into a world filled with adventure, mystery, and romance, and give them the chance to become a martial arts legend.

We're incredibly excited to share Wandering Sword with you, and we can't wait for you
to experience everything the game has to offer. From the sprawling landscapes and vibrant characters, to the pulse-pounding combat and gripping storyline, Wandering Sword is a game that we believe will captivate players from beginning to end.

Ultimately, our goal with Wandering Sword is to create a game that is both fun and meaningful. We believe that games can be a powerful tool for storytelling and self-expression, and we want to create a game that inspires players to discover their own inner hero.

We hope you're as excited about Wandering Sword as we are, and we can't wait to share more about the game in the coming months. Stay tuned for more updates, and get ready to embark on an epic adventure through ancient China!
