Robber Knight Update

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Welcome, mighty Feudal Lords and Ladies! :)
It’s time for the Robber Knight update. It’s time to… ah, I’d better quote Skinny:

"Make Robber Knight great again!"

I wanted to start by making a list of what’s different, what’s improved, etc. While preparing that list, I realized the only thing these two games have in common is Hamish and Peterlin.

We actually made a leap of faith and, based on your feedback, created a completely new game for you. I was very nervous about it, but after the beta, I’m much less stressed, thanks to your comments:

"Otherwise, I'd like to give huge praise to the development team because I really, really like the beta. The game keeps getting better and better, and I believe it has the potential to become something truly big. Thank you for taking this bold step!"

Dom 11

I want you to know it meant a lot to us. :)

Another one from one of our first supporters, a sort of gaming friend:

"it is better to progress than to aim for perfection, for progress always happens, perfection never will."

Oberonu

And I believe progress is what you’ll see when you fire up the update.

"All is well, and I know your hard work is stressful to put out a product, but I am so glad you are taking your time and being forthright about it. >CHEERS
Zoryx555

So you all made sure we feel comfortable with our efforts to produce something great. We feel like the place we are in today is a great place:

to Start – the real development of the game – the real early access – with a smooth, steady progress toward the premiere. I hope you’ll feel it too.
Why such a big change
Reading your feedback made me think that something wasn’t right—that I had missed the point and uniqueness of the game.

One of our first supporters, MadKitty, was almost mad at me. And I was like, "Wtf, so much work, how can he be mad at me?"

But a real eye-opener was a video from an almost 1-million-subscriber YouTuber – Splattercatgaming. I was totally sure something had gone very wrong.

The games you were comparing us to were in a totally different direction than the original intent. I hope, for good or bad, that today’s version will show you we’re back on the Robber Knight track. And that it’s fun!

At the same time, we’re giving you the option to build, rule, and expand your lands.
We are very proud
I know I’m putting a target on my back right now, but to hell with it. We are a two-person team, and we are totally aware there is still a lot to do. But for a two-person team, I think this is foki** awesome.

Sorry for the bad language, but I feel it describes it best. And as mentioned by Oberonu, he wants to see progress, and there was so much progress that this alone makes us really proud. When you have fun, that would be heaven for us.
Thank you
We chose this ourselves, and we are very happy about it, but… You know, making games is a very hard business. I mean, you break your back over the screen for 14 hours a day, sometimes for months without a day off. And then you see comments like "this is shit," or "it’s a faking scam." It really messes with your head.

But then you get all that support from beautiful people like you, who help us find bugs, tell us to take our time, show patience, and believe that we will deliver. And you just want to keep going no matter what.

Thank you so much, mighty Feudal Lords and Ladies! :)

Your scribe and developer,
Sartorian
Main Changes for version 0.8
- Technically, it’s really a new game, but let’s try:

- Engine Version: we are now on Unreal 5.

- Story: The main idea is the same: our brother betrayed us, we start from nothing. But the rest is completely different. This is Act 1 for now, and it only shows that the game world takes your actions into account.

- Game genre and gameplay: We are now an RPG with 4X strategy elements. So how it works: you play a normal RPG, but for your rewards (loot), you can not only buy new gear or items to make you stronger, but also an army, new technologies, or buildings to develop your land. Maybe I should use RTS instead of 4X. We’ll see how you feel about it.

- Complete graphic overhaul: All models, textures, and materials are new, or at least repainted or remade.

Ah, just try it out – we’re starting with the patch notes from 0.81 again.

Beta Launch (READ CAREFULLY IF YOU WANT TO DOWNLOAD)

First of all, thank you again for your incredible support and assistance. Creating an RPG is a challenging task, especially when it's just the two of us, but we still believe we can create something epic together—it will just take a bit longer than expected.
Our Plan:
You can find the game, in the beta branch.

We will release new content in parts. This approach will allow us to quickly identify and fix any issues. So it may sometimes, feel odd for you.
First Round:
• The first 12 quests of the main story
• Building your home
• Performance

For testing, please focus on the dialogues and follow the quests. Wandering off might be boring since the world is currently empty—no animals, no caravans, no NPCs in villages or castles, and only quest-related content is present.

No UI issues, no world sound issues, just the 3 points nothing more.
Making Your Testing Easier:
Since the world is empty, acquiring resources is limited. To help with this, we've left some developer cheats for you:
• O – Increase your speed by +1000 units
• L – Every click gives you 1000 of all resources

Additionally, near your home (which you'll reach at the end of the quest line), there's a character called Cheater, where you can purchase everything you need for your home. This will save you from unnecessary running around.
Next Update Will Include:
• Caravans
• In game tutorials
• Villages to conquer
• Your army
• City building and quests
• The skill tree

I’ll describe each update in this thread to avoid spamming Steam messages to those who prefer to wait.

No problem. I like the way you interact with the community. Better take your time and make it right than fix it later. Far too many AAA productions take route 2 but you won't have that many shots as an indi dev.
We are here. Your own community will understand and be happy about that decision!
Keep on keeping on! ːsteamthumbsupː

That's a good decision. Take as much time as you need. I'm cheering for you and this project. I believe in you. Good luck! :)

My opinion: It's better to be honest and delay the release than to deliver something subpar! So, respect to you for having the courage to do that! Yes, we are waiting, but I'd rather wait for a game that is worth it. You are absolutely right that it would be disrespectful to present us with something half-baked after we've already waited so long. Better to wait a little longer and receive something that was truly worth the wait! So keep it up! And thank you for your work and dedication!
Beta Open for All Our Players
We’ve decided to take our polishing efforts even further, and we want to do it together with you.
We want to bring it to a premier level. This update is crucial for the future of this project, so we need your help. Here’s the plan:
- We’ll add the new UE5 version to the beta branch (at 30th 7.00 PM Berlin time).
- You play it and share your thoughts the feedback link will be provided in game
- Everyone who helps and leaves their name with their feedback will receive a little bit of “immortality.”
That means you’ll be mentioned in the game credits with the name you provided. Our credits are extremely short, so your name will be very visible :D
- We will provide new updates everyday except sundays (Sometimes exciting, sometimes simple)
- We’ll keep working in the beta branch until you say, “OK, ACT 1 is ready for the main release.” Then we’ll move it to the main branch and start working on ACT 2. We hope for 29 September

I hope those of you who appreciate our efforts to polish the game won’t mind the extra wait, and those of you who are eager to play will be happy with the beta branch option.
For Those Who Want to Join the Beta
**What Are We Creating?**

1. A medieval RPG with a story and deep character development.
2. A simple 4X strategy from 1/3 person view(building a city, managing your lands, researching technology, gathering wealth, and assembling an army).
3. A simulation (quests to improve the lives of your people, your own manor to build as you wish).

This is based on the feedback I’ve gathered from you over the past two years. It’s a new genre of game that should be the most fun for all of you, giving you the freedom to play the way you like.
I’d love to stick with this new genre unless at least 60% of you tell me it’s completely terrible and a waste of time.
What We Need Help With:
1. **Anything that confuses you.** If a mechanic isn’t clear and it took you more than 3 minutes to figure it out, we want to fix it.

2. **Bugs.** Broken quest lines, getting stuck in the landscape or items, rocks without collision—whether small or big, anything we might have missed.

3. **What you feel is missing.** Features that aren’t in the game but are essential for you to enjoy it, keeping the genre in mind. For example, "I would like horses" is a great idea (they’re planned), but "I want zombies" isn’t really relevant.

I’d like to steer clear of tree-cutting mechanics and instead focus on generating fun in a more knightly manner. However, if at least 40% of you consistently request something, I’ll always consider it.
