Light Odyssey - User Feedback
Hello, everyone!
[p][/p][p]Our first-ever gamescom has come to an end![/p][p]Massive thank you to everyone who came to our booth to chat or play and made this event so special. Because of you, we have collected some incredible feedback that we’d like to share with you here! [/p][p][/p][p]Admittedly, bringing Light Odyssey to Europe for the first time was nerve-wrecking but we’re glad it went well! (Shoutout to our neighboring indies, Love Eternal & Be My Horde, for the fun company 😋)[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Feedback on the demo!
[p][/p][p]Behold… the ominous bar graph: bearer of feedback. If you’re struggling to make sense of it, don’t worry! We’ll help dissect the data for you; alongside four interesting comments we received in-person.
[/p][p]For starters, we noticed that players mainly appreciated the atmosphere of the game. They said they loved the music and the artstyle; and that it reminded them of Shadow of the Colossus (thanks! ).
[/p][p]However, once again, we heard differing opinions regarding Light Odyssey’s difficulty as some thought it was too easy and some thought it was too difficult.[/p][p]Naturally, this all depends on what type of gamers these people are as you might expect. Yet the issue remains an interesting point of discussion when creating a souls-like game.
[/p][p]When we brought this up during our Indie Arena Booth livestream, one viewer quickly replied with: “Seems like something that could be solved with difficulty modes!”; a logical assumption.[/p][p]But when you truly think about the essence of a souls-like game, it is that shared sense of accomplishment and community that stems from the shared experience across all players.
[/p][p]Elden Ring wouldn’t be Elden Ring if it had an Easy mode. Nor would other players that beat the game on Hard mode take you seriously when you talk about your personal achievements.[/p][p]However, one could argue that the souls-like games have a hidden difficulty mode as players can choose to grind between bosses to make the fights easier. But for a boss rush, this becomes challenging.
[/p][p]For now, we’ll leave this discussion open-ended. We have some new solutions in mind that require a bit of extra time. In the meantime, we do want to ask: How would you solve this issue?[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Some highlights
[p]Beyond this, we were able to speak with a bunch of people at our booth (both players & bystanders) that gave us some really interesting feedback. Some confirming our suspicions and some surprising us. [/p]
 • [p]The parry and shoot ability are introduced simultaneously, which can overwhelm the player.[/p]
 • [p]The shoot ability is not strong enough for its usage to be justified instead of a basic attack.[/p]
 • [p]The feedback on the parry should be increased so that it’s more notable and satisfying.[/p]
 • [p]The healthbars should appear more intimidating to properly convey the soulsborne suspense.[/p]
[p][/p][p][/p]
Behind-the-scenes pictures!
[p]And of course, between running the booth, gathering feedback, and destroying our legs, we took some behind-the-scenes pictures that we’d love to share with you here![/p][p][/p][carousel][/carousel][p][/p][p][/p]
What’s next?
[p]With all this, we will hide in the dev cave once more until we’re ready to launch the public demo! In the meantime, you might find us at some other events across the globe.[/p][p]Working on Light Odyssey has been an incredible journey but seeing you play and enjoy the game always reignites the light within us; motivating us to work even harder when we return home.[/p][p][/p][p]Once again, thank you all for supporting us at gamescom. We can’t wait to return next year! 🤞[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Add to Wishlist[/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p]
