Walk of Life is OUT NOW in Steam Early Access!

[p]Gadzooks! Hot damn! Yahoo![/p][p]It's here! It's finally here![/p][p]We at Porcelain Fortress are absolutely elated to announce that Walk of Life has finally landed in Steam Early Access![/p][p]After years of gruelling work in the game development trenches the world's most hilariously depressing life simulator has hit the digital shelves of Steam! We want to start things off with a huge round of thanks for all of you that have been followed us on this journey and assisted in the form of feedback, testing, or just overall good vibes.[/p][p]Our community is the reason we decided to take Walk of Life into Early Access. We want to continue shaping this weird little creation of ours with your help so that the end product ends up being something we can all love and share custody of. [/p][p]There are some things that are a bit too WIP to throw them into the default build, but we still want to let you try them, so we've added an experimental mode to game setup if you want to give the WIP stuff a whirl. Try it out![/p][p]Here's a list of some thing you can expect to see in Early Access! [/p]
New Roles!

[p]We hope you're into roleplay, you little freak, because we have a bunch of new roles that will be introduced to the game! They'll start off in the experimental mode and we'll work with the community to finetune the role before it leaves the nest and joins the roster in regular games.[/p]
Jobs, Perks and Life Events
[p]While routinely banned from Goldeneye 64, we here at Porcelain Fortress love an Oddjob! Sorry. We want Walk of Life to be full of odd and quirky jobs that bring colour to your games, introducing new strategic choices to make with new job perks. Life events tailored to your current job are another feature that we hope will bring a level of immersion not seen since the days of Virtual Boy. That's it for Nintendo references.[/p]
Education Redux

[p]Walk of Life's current education system is staler than its real life counterpart, and we aim to change that. We want players to make choices when it comes to education that allows them to specialize and aim towards different paths.[/p]
Unique Items and Furniture
[p]We will introduce new items and furniture to the game that give you special benefits (or drawbacks) that you can gain through various paths in the game.[/p]
Vexcorp 2.0
[p]Vexcorp's h̶u̶m̶a̶n̶ ̶e̶x̶p̶e̶r̶i̶m̶e̶n̶t̶s̶  quests are just the tip of the iceberg for the e̶v̶i̶l̶ ̶t̶e̶c̶h̶ ̶e̶m̶p̶i̶r̶e̶  friendly neighbourhood startup. Expect to see new rewards for doing stuff around Vexcorp.[/p]
The Stock Market
[p]The doors to the stock market remain closed, but will soon open to satiate all of you STONKS hungry maniacs out there. Line chart goes brrrr.[/p]
New Game Modes

[p]The game mode cauldron is currently bubbling with ridiculous new game modes that will turn the Walk of Life experience into something new and exciting.[/p]
Pawn Shop Update
[p]As soon as the pawn reaches G8, the pawn shop will be upgrading to a queen shop. Haha. Seriously though, the pawn shop is currently rather static and we want it to be a fun place to stop by to see whatever oddities they might have on offer at any given time.[/p]
Fire Safety and Security
[p]Waves of the crime and heat variety are meant to really mess with players if they don't invest in proper countermeasures. Items granting fire safety and security will allow players to keep their valuables safe and sound.[/p]
Map Layouts
[p]Different layouts of Calicornia should shake things up if games are getting stale. They put Clucker's next to the bank?!?!! Oh my god this will literally alter the metagame in ways no game has ever seen before![/p]
Longer Game Modes
[p][/p][p]Some of you seem hellbent to live out that Dr. Manhattan meme. We'll do our best to cater to you with a marathon mode where you can play some really long games.[/p]
New Map
[p]We don't want you to end up washed up, having never left Calicornia. A new map with new mechanics, characters and adventures is something we're very excited about.[/p]
Improved Interface
[p]We realize that the current interface and overall experience can be a bit confusing, which is why we're designing new ways to shove information ever so gently into your pretty little heads.[/p]
MORE CONTENT
[p][/p][p]More is more! You want more? We hear you! That's why we will more. MORE!

And that should about cover it for now! If you want keep track of our lofty promises, take a look at our roadmap that should be popping up on the storepage any second now. Until next time, go out and take a Walk of Life![/p]

Dev Blog: Nextfest is here! And we're in it!

[p][/p][p]Steam Nextfest is upon us! With thousands of interesting demos to play, you won't find a better showcase of upcoming games in the video game industry as a whole. And guess what, baby? Walk of Life is there as well!

We launched the Walk of Life Demo last week and have been steadily making improvements to it in preparation for the festival. The feedback so far has been great, and we're quite proud of the demo we cobbled together. While there are certain aspects of the game that will be locked until launch, you won't have to wait too long, as we'll go into Steam Early Access on October 24th![/p][p]Now, if you're completely new to Walk of Life and haven't even heard of our previous game, No Time to Relax, the game might be a bit daunting to get into at first. Thankfully, we've devised a handy tutorial to hold your hand as you take your first steps!

[/p][p]You see? It's literally holding your hand![/p][p]The tutorial bot will run through an abridged game with the player, teaching you most of the game's core systems so you can get a steady foundation before going off on your own to experiment. [/p][p]There's not really a whole lot more to say about the demo as we're going to hunker down to prepare for the Early Access launch. Until then, we're really excited to hear what you think about the demo in the form of Steam Reviews! Your feedback is going to be the clay we use to mold the full release, so let us know now!

Here are some pigeons to keep you satisfied until next time.

Peace![/p]

The Demo is Live!

[p][/p][p]It's demo day!
[/p][p]The whole team at Porcelain Fortress is overjoyed to be able to let all of you have a (limited) go at what we've been cooking for the last couple of years. You can find the demo here!

The demo features seven rounds of gameplay where you'll be able to try out two of the game's roles, the Workaholic and the Hoarder. You'll have access to most of the game's primary systems with some limitations as some systems will be locked as this is of course just a demo. [/p][p]Some unavailable systems include higher tiers of work and education, better apartments, many of the pets etc. Don't worry though, all of these features will be available in the early access version of the game that will be coming later this month. The demo supports both local and online multiplayer, so we encourage all of you to invite your friends along for the party game experience. If your friends aren't cool enough to tag along, or don't exist as a part of the material plane, we've got you covered with a bot player. Be nice though, they're not the sharpest tool in the shed.[/p][p]If this is your first experience trying Walk of Life, we'd love to get your feedback. Please let us know on the Steam forums, or our Discord, what you think so we can continue to develop the perfect game for our favourite player: you!

Until next time![/p]

Walk of Life Early Access and Demo Release Dates

[p]TLDR:
Walk of Life Demo is releasing September 29th, 2025
Walk of Life goes into Steam Early Access October 24th, 2025

What's up![/p][p]It's been a hot minute since our last update, but that's because the entire team has been hard at work, deep in the game design mines where natural light is but a flicker of a memory. Thankfully, we're emerging from the depths, seven-dwarf style, to show Snow White the fruits of our labour. You guys are Snow White in this convoluted metaphor. [/p][p]We recently started hosting closed playtests on our Discord (come join us, if you're not there already!) and have been gathering valuable feedback about what is and isn't working. Minor stuff that's easy to overlook after months of development can often be spotted with fresh eyes, so a bunch of polish has been achieved in a short amount of time.

We're close to a point where we can finally unleash the kraken and let you all have a go at Walk of Life. The plan is to release Walk of Life in Early Access on October 24th. The reason we decided to go for an early access release is that we want to involve our awesome and opinionated community in developing a game we can all love and play for years to come.

Entering Early Access, we hope to have a rock solid core gameplay that we can expand upon in the months to follow with new events, gameplay systems, avatars and so much more. There's some stuff that will be very new to players coming in directly from No Time to Relax, and we think you're going to love the changes we've made.

Now, we know that the early access launch is over a month away, but if you're absolutely parched for Walk of Life, we will be dropping a demo on the way. We recommend you keep reading these incredible dev blogs and check out our Discord if you want to be in the loop.
