Ending Dead Cells updates is a "marketing stunt" to "leave room" for Windblown, claims former lead designer

Former Dead Cells lead designer Sébastien Benard is none too chuffed about publisher Motion Twin's decision to end development of the well-regarded roguelike Metroidvania. A few days ago, Motion Twin announced that the 35th major Dead Cells update, aptly titled The End Is Near, would be its last. Benard feels this is a betrayal of both the game's community and its current development team, Evil Empire, a spin-off studio who took the reins in 2019.

Windblown Early Access propels onto Steam in 2024!

Hey everyone, Motion Twin here!

So... we were noodling around in our game lab one day and, whoops, our fingers slipped on the 'fast-forward' button.

Several times.

And you know what? It was AWESOME. We couldn't help ourselves - we just kept pushing that button, over and over, for years! And now, we're super pumped to roll out the announcement trailer for our latest gaming escapade: Windblown!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Windblown is what happens when a rogue-like game guzzles a whole lot of energy drinks, hits the gym, and wears treadmills on its feet. It's got combat that zips by at lightning speed, and we've tossed in some eye-popping, shiny clouds and gravity-defying islands for good measure.

Think of it as Dead Cells’ hyperactive sibling, spinning in a 3D sugar rush.

In this whirlwind, you're a Leaper, on a mission to save the Ark from a Vortex with a serious attitude problem. Along the way, you'll collect memories from those who've fallen before you, juicing up your weapons and morphing into a combat beast. It’s what they would have wanted.

Feeling brave, or just want company? You don't have to face the music alone; bring along a couple of friends and enjoy the DELIGHTFUL bonding exercise of dying over and over, together! Yay for teamwork!

The cherry on top of launching Windblown? Hearing what YOU think! We can't wait to dive into Early Access and work with you to shape this bad boy. Your insights, your wild brainwaves, your unhinged ideas - they're what will turn this mischievous little game into something monumental.

So, go on, spill the beans on the trailer – we're all ears and can't wait to hear what you think. And hey, why not slam that wishlist button while you're at it?

Get ready to dash, die, and repeat... again!

Cheekily yours,
~ MT
