Yes, you will need a purchased copy of Nightingale on Steam in order to play on GeForce Now.

Do I need an internet connection for GeForce Now?
As you will be connecting to servers, you will need access to a steady internet connection throughout your gaming session. Please note that the retail versions of Nightingale connect to our servers, and also require a steady internet connection even if you’re playing directly from Steam.

Nope, it’s an optional service that folks can opt into if they want it.

Nightingale server status and planned maintenance

Are the Nightingale servers down? Nightingale might take you between a series of stunning Realms, but no matter which you're currently in, there's no escaping server downtime.
