I MADE A SONG for my INDIE GAME!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
I like games and music.
You'd probably say "wow, it's like... 99% of the world population". Nah, I LIKE, LIKE games and music. I enjoy them so much, I even decided to make my own games. Aaaaand, you know, it's been... tough (!), but I didn't quit (yet) and instead, I sat over my desk and thought... and thought, and thought again, AND THEN I got to the idea of making my own superhero series! Listen, I love Batman, alright? Hell, who doesn’t love Batman! I was always watching new episodes of Batman Beyond as a kid and those are the best memories of my childhood.

So together with my friend Witek, we decided to really dedicate ourselves to that project and firstly - we made a free game called Hank: Straightjacket. It was… quite nice, but it was tiny, so the next step was to create something bigger, greater, more exciting and world changing (yeah I’m exaggerating a bit). The thing was - we didn’t know how to make it more… I don’t know, distinctive? iconic? So… we made a song!
Designing characters
But at first we had to design the characters - our main guy is Hank. He’s not your typical superhero with lots of money or a pretty face, in fact, he’s an alcoholic who many years ago was a master in street fighting at an underground arena. But one day his entire life fell off, he got drunk to death and when he woke up with a crazy hangover, he realised that he came in possession of a time travelling superpowers. There’s also his nemesis, Unraveler, the greatest illusionist this world has known, and many other characters but I won’t spoil too much, y-you have to try my game to learn more!

But yeah, that’s basically the game, Unraveler poisoned Hank and took him into his world of illusion and now Hank has to escape, that’s the plot of Hank: Drowning On Dry Land. And although we know that all of this is cool and fun, we felt like there’s something missing. So we went back to watching Batman: Beyond, watched all the episodes for 10 times each and… nothing. We were slamming our heads against the wall and couldn’t come with the answer to our question: what is missing? And after days and nights with no sleep, tired and absolutely depressed, IN JUST ONE MOMENT we looked at eachother with Witek with that spark in our eyes and both said: THE SONG!
The song
That was it! Every superhero has a theme song! And Hank also has to have one! We found the band that we thought would perfectly match the rock aesthetic we had in mind, guys are called Cinemon (you can check them out if you want) and we all were super excited to collaborate, so… we started working on it. It wasn’t a quick process, but let me tell you, the final result exceeded our wildest expectations. This raw, rock, grunge aesthetic is exactly what we were looking for.

The full song is already available at Cinemon’s youtube channel with a dedicated lyric video, you’ll find a link to it a bit higher in this article, a link to Hank: Drowning On Dry Land game on Steam is below. Go check it out, aaaand see you… in the nightmares!

THE REALITY of making INDIE GAMES

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Today we'll tell you about the game we had the pleasure of creating this year. We wanted to break away a bit from Hank's dark vibe and try our hand at something more fun and perhaps a bit goofy, and that's how Tales From The Arcade: Fartmania came to be.

The plan was great at first, but very quickly there was such a... small... tiny... problem. We had absolutely no experience with platformer games. We had to re-test new mechanics and solutions, we often got lost and that's why it took us a little over... a year to produce the whole thing. Yeah. We know, it's a bit long for a simple platformer.

However, we wanted everything to be in it as we had planned. We decided that our project needs that extra time. In the end we are satisfied with the result. While playing Fartmania, you take on the role of Pinky, a little piglet with a farting problem. The whole village makes fun of him, but soon the inhabitants are kidnapped by aliens, and the only person who can save them is Pinky. The player must watch out for spikes, rescue the pigs, collect beans and finally defeat the aliens with his unusual powers.

We published the first version of the game for free on Newgrounds, GameJolt and other such sites. We wanted to see what players felt about it and whether our game is simply fun to play. The results exceeded our wildest expectations, as Fartmania was fired up more than tens of thousands of times, the feedback was also very favorable, so we refined the game, fixed bugs and then it was time for the real launch. We chose Steam and Nintendo Switch as the target media, because we like Nintendo Switch, and we always wanted Fartmania to be available on Nintendo Switch. It was a bit of “fun” to do this, because Nintendo's policies are terribly convoluted, but in the end everything worked out and Fartmania is now available in almost all regions of the world on Switch.

For the launch on Steam, we even held a contest in which the person with the highest demo highscore had the opportunity to become... an in-game character! The fight was fierce, but in the end the player with the nickname WikVenture won, and this is how his character, which you can meet in the game, looks!

A few months after its release, Fartmania sold in... 75 copies on Steam. After 900 wishlists. And 165 copies on Nintendo Switch overall. Whether that's a lot or a few, that's a question you can answer for yourselves, we are quite satisfied with this result and would definitely commit in this madness once again if given the chance.

As I said, Tales From The Arcade: Fartmania is now available on both Steam and Nintendo Switch, if you'd like to check it out for yourself you'll find a link to the game below, show it to your friends and compete with them for highest highscore, and remember: never give up. See ya!

Play the game and help Pinky rescue his friends from evil aliens! Avoid spikes, collect pigs and use those delicious beans to fly right into the sky.

Tales From the Arcade: Fartmania is available on Steam and Nintendo Switch.

But that’s not all!
Some time ago we started our Highscores Contest in Fartmania Demo and today we come to you with the results.

First - thank you all for playing! So many of you finished our demo and it definitely surpassed our expectations. We hope you will have even more fun in the full version of the game and that even a thought of Fartmania would bring a smile to your face!

And finally, let’s meet our winner. Congratulations NOT_WIKVENTURE! Your farting skills are immaculate and the whole village is grateful to you! That of course means that we will contact you to talk about the details of your own Fartmania character!
