1.00.50200 - coming_in_hot public beta update!

We've just pushed an update to our coming_in_hot public beta branch.

  • Brought over all changes associated with the last direct to retail hotfix
  • Fixed an issue with the Fanatic Librarian kill achievement not counting when ignited
  • Added missing SFX to Bonesaw and Shred of Decency
  • Reverberating Redoubt: Added Armor Tag
  • Fixed an issue with a Flagellant hero goal
  • Pillager Mongrel no longer gains Dodge when using Watchdog, but instead gains it on Riposte
  • Updated healing tab background art on the Hospital
  • Fixed an issue where using a combat item on the final boss would break VFX from correctly looping
  • Reduced Inn Mastery hold to upgrade timing from 2s to 1s
  • Fixed an issue where a rough patch would be hidden under the sand in the Shroud
  • Increased the appearance rate of Hero Shrines
  • Fixed various Localization UI issues
  • Various VFX fixes
  • Updated Korean Localization


We have done some behind data and code work to change how we handled resistances we want to be presented as IMMUNE (ie. The Dreaming General). However the UI does not correctly reflect these changes and will do so in a future update.

Darkest Dungeon II - Face Your Failures - Hotfix 1.00.50092

This hotfix has balance adjustments intended to alleviate friction encountered by new players.

Candle Scoring
🔸 Increased "Academic's Honorarium" candle bonus from 5 to 10. This is a bonus given for the first 5 runs on a new profile. It's aimed to help players get enough early candles to purchase some interesting unlocks, while still learning the basics.
🔸 Increased region-completion candle scoring slightly
🔸 Increased candle bonus from facing a Confession Boss

Monster Deathblow Resistance
In general, we are lowering enemy deathblow resists, to reduce some volatility.
🔸 Removed the deathblow resist buff from "Impervious Monsters" enemy battle advantage.
🔸 Just as with heroes, successive deathblows resisted lowers the resistance by 10% each time. This was already in place but the debuff was invisible. Now the debuff is visible as an icon on the monster's status tray in combat.
🔸 Reduced the minimum cap for Deathblow RES on Heroes and Monsters from 5% to 0%

Creature Den
🔸 Mutated Carrion Eater can no longer survive a damaging hit on Death's Door
🔸 Gander's Deathblow RES has been reduced from 50% to 25%

Cultists
🔸 Evangelist can no longer survive a damaging hit on Death's Door
🔸 Deacon's Deathblow RES has been reduced from 33% to 25%
🔸 Cardinal's Deathblow RES has been reduced from 33% to 25%
🔸 Exemplar's Deathblow RES has been reduced from 75% to 50%

Fanatics
🔸 The Librarian's Deathblow RES has been reduced from 33% to 25%
🔸 The Ignited Librarian's Deathblow RES has been reduced from 50% to 25%
🔸 Immolatist no longer has Death's Door
🔸 Pit Fighter's Deathblow RES has been reduced from 33% to 25%

Fisherfolk
🔸 Leviathan's Deathblow RES has been reduced from 50% to 25%
🔸 Docker's Deathblow RES has been reduced from 33% to 25%

Lost Battalion
🔸 Dreaming General's Deathblow RES has been reduced from 50% to 33%
🔸 Drummer: no longer grants a temporary +50% Deathblow RES when using Order: Defensive Formation
🔸 Foot Soldier can no longer survive a damaging hit on Death's Door

🔸 Harvest Child's Deathblow RES has been reduced from 33% to 25%

1.00.49998 - coming_in_hot public beta update!

Welcome to the first public beta build of Darkest Dungeon II post 1.0. Before pushing changes to our retail branch of the game, we like to soak test our design changes, optimization work and art polish on a public beta branch.

We encourage players who want to help test these changes and provide feedback to switch to either the "coming_in_hot" beta branch on Steam or the Experimental branch on EGS. Your save will carry over when you switch to that branch. However, once you switch we recommend you stay there until we push the update to the retail branch for everyone. We always recommend making a backup of your save file!

One thing to expect however is we often use this branch to quickly test things, which means there will be missing strings, sometimes bugs and potentially other issues that can affect your gameplay. That said you can get access to the incoming changes first and help provide valuable feedback as we continue to improve and develop Darkest Dungeon II beyond our 1.0 release.

  • Added many quirk interactions to Academic's Studies
  • Slight increase to candle cost of later character cosmetics
  • Removed deathblow resist buff from Impervious Monsters
  • Reduced stress damage dealt in Jester's chapter 2 story
  • Chalk Dust: No longer requires target to be in Stealth and can now be Dodged, but will also remove any Dodge tokens
  • Confession 3 Boss
    • Cloistered Eye: Seek skills will now target a random hero when there's no random hero to target
    • Bifurcated Eye: Detect skills now targets random heroes
    • Cluster of Eyes: Evince skills now targets random heroes
  • Fixed an issue preventing team names from working when they contained the Flagellant
  • Minimum Deathblow RES for Heroes has been raised from 5% to 33%
  • Minimum Deathblow RES has been reduced from 5% to 0% for monsters
  • Monsters that previously had 5% Deathblow RES, such as the Evangelist, now have 0%
  • Drummer: Order: Defensive Formation no longer grants +50% Deathblow RES for 1 Round
  • Knight: no longer uses En Garde if on Death's Door
  • Bishop: fixed an issue causing the Bishop to occasionally pass his turn unnecessarily
  • Inns can now only be generated once per expedition.


Based on feedback since our 1.0 release we have decided to revisit the 3rd Confession boss. Today's update addresses a few of the most immediate issues, but be advised we are adjusting this fight further.

We'll be testing and rolling out these changes over the next week or so.

Steam Deck Support and Steam Cloud Coming in Future Updates

We wanted to answer a few of the most common questions we’ve been receiving in our forums.

We are happy to report that we are currently working on both gamepad support and Steam Deck support for Darkest Dungeon II. These are both highly requested features. While we don’t have a firm ETA, know that they are both very much in the works.

Steam Cloud Save is also in the works, and we plan to add it in the very near future.
