Next Fest Demo is Available Now | Demo Content, Weapons, and Evolution Features

Hi adventurers, welcome aboard!

We are excited to announce that the public demo of Oblivion Override for the upcoming Steam Next Fest is now available until Feb. 13th!

You can download it on Steam and come explore the first two major areas of the secret Dulce Base. Be mindful of detonators, electricity, and misprogrammed robots. If failed halfway through your unknown mission, try more times equipping different advanced weapons and a variety of skill upgrades. Every trip should bring new random discoveries.

Besides the new demo, another Next Fest stream is confirmed to be held at 6pm, Feb. 8th, Pacific Time on our Steam store page. In this broadcast, we also invite Indie Game Collective's content creator to try out the game and slash the way through the Dulce Base. Don’t forget to add this event to your calendar and wishlist Oblivion Override for more future updates!
Q&A - What's in the Demo?
To help you know more about the demo details before you embark on the adventure, we prepared a FAQ about the demo content, gameplay systems, and other info:
Q: How much content is included in the demo?
A: The demo version contains the first two maps of the game - the abandoned factory and the alienated bio-greenhouse, and two deadly boss fights with “Electric Erich” and “Ripper Wright” awaiting your visit.

Also, regular enemies will spawn in the two levels as the “first playthrough” difficulty. Don't forget to adjust your weapons and build in the face of different enemies and random combat rooms.
Q: How many weapons are available in the demo?
A: 15 weapons are available in the demo: 4 are initial weapons, 6 are unlockable weapons, and the remaining 5 rare weapons require blueprints and resources to craft - which also have more powerful passive abilities.

There are 10 extra weapons that can't be unlocked, for they may affect the difficulty of early exploration, but you can still see them in the demo.
Q: What does the Evolution system look like in this demo?
A: In this demo, we increased the spawn of “Nanite” as well as the chance of exclusive and fusion abilities to help you upgrade in the first two maps. Also, all core items are available to allow you to grow faster and enjoy the deeper gameplay of Oblivion Override.

In terms of Evolution paths, we selected 8 main features including "Belligerence", "Rage", "Killing Skill", "Hologram", "SMD-115", "Pulse Mastery", "Spike Core", and "Advanced Tech". These features cover different dimensions from combat to movement, catering to your needs for trying all kinds of builds.

In addition, shops, chest rooms, core rooms, and Nanite rooms will also be accessible in the demo, allowing you to get stronger in various ways to beat levels.
Q: Does any other major character show in the demo?
A: Yes! There are 8 NPCs and you can bring Mr.Xie, the merchant NPC to your base at the early stage. The NPCs shown in the demo all have their own stories, but some of them can’t be brought to the base in this demo. You can also enter Mecha room in the base and Lee’s room in the greenhouse, but the relevant functions are not available at this moment.
Q: What languages are supported in the demo?
A: We've just updated the initial Japanese translations into the demo. So the current version supports English, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese!
Q: Can I share content from the demo on any social platforms?
A: Yes, of course! No matter if you are a YouTube content creator, or a streamer or not, please feel free to do that! For members of the press, you can contact us via email: [email protected].
Q: If I encounter any bugs playing the demo, how can I report the issues?
A: You can submit a ticket via the in-game Bug Feedback section under the Pause menu or join our official Discord server and post in the #demo-bug-report channel. Your feedback and suggestions are really important for us to further optimize the gameplay experience!

First Gameplay Reveal | Our Team and Initial Design Concepts

Hello everyone, we are Humble Mill, the development team of Oblivion Override.

We are incredibly grateful for your interest in our game - the support we’ve gotten since the announcement of Oblivion Override has just been overwhelming! We are currently working on the English closed beta test which will also be launching today.

To get you a better insight into this roguelike hack-n-slasher, please check out our first official gameplay video here:

[previewyoutube][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

In this dev blog, we will be sharing some of our thoughts and inspirations behind Oblivion Override. If you have any questions or comments regarding the story and gameplay, please don't hesitate to leave them below.
Who are we?
We are Humble Mill, an indie game studio of 10, and we’re passionate about playing and creating games! Side-scrollers like the Castlevania series, Hollow Knight, and Dead Cells are some of our favorites, and we’ve always dreamed of making our own game in this space.

Since founding in 2016, we’ve been all about creating action game experiences and launched our first project, Jiu Li, in 2017 for mobile. After that we did some more exploring and prototyping, which led us to Oblivion Override - our second project, and first attempt on PC.
What was the inspiration for Oblivion Override?
We are all big fans of side-scrolling action games, so wanting to create something in this genre has always been a part of us. Also, we had already accumulated some experience in the development of side-scrollers. While the core gameplay of these games is pretty established, we’re still hoping to find something new and exciting about them.
How about the art style of the game?
It’s tough to put into words what the exact style of the game is. We went with a more dieselpunk design direction for the characters, and introduced quite a bit of post-apocalyptic elements in the game world.

After a lot of trial, we were able to land on a visual presentation that we’re happy with, and we hope you’ll like it too.
What are the narrative and gameplay like in Oblivion Override?
We wanted to create a world that’s familiar but still feels fresh, with awesome characters and a killer story threading everything together. So we figured that a fragmented narrative felt most proper.

We also wanted the player-controlled protagonist to feel super responsive and have lots of room to grow, and that’s how we decided on adopting Roguelike mechanics.

Some players may be curious about why we chose the words Oblivion and Override. For one thing, Oblivion tries to convey the concept of “annihilation” - the process of turning matter and antimatter into energy when they meet, while Override is relevant to certain devices to suspend automatic functions on machines. Want to take a wild guess why we named the game with these meanings?
About Beta Testing
Our first round of English closed beta test will be open today (i.e. Friday at CST time)!

We will continue accepting application forms so please don’t forget to join our Official discord and apply for the playtest there!

In future updates, we’ll be showing off some character designs, gameplay mechanics, and sharing some of our plans and ideas. Don’t miss out on all the fun and also make sure to follow us on Twitter to stay up-to-date on our lastest news, exiciting content, and giveaway events.

We'll catch up with you in the next dev blog. Stay tuned and let us know your questions or suggestions in the comments below!

Introduce our new title - Oblivion Override

Welcome aboard, fellow adventurers.

Thanks for your attention on our new title - Oblivion Override. We’ve developed and prepared for this action side-scroller for long as the genre has always been the exact direction that we are working towards with tireless efforts during these years, while metroidvania-like and roguelike games are also our favorites. Therefore, with a vision of creating a side-scrolling roguelike game, here it is - after years of closed development - we are excited to announce this game and introduce to all of you.

In the meantime, we are working hard on localization and preparation for the English closed beta test. If you are interested in the game, please join our official Discord. We will recruit a selected group of players in our Discord server to participate in the later playtest, and hope to receive your valuable suggestions and feedback.

Additionally, to each playtest applicant, we will send an in-game gift after the official game launch. The present itself may not be precious, but it contains our sincere gratitude for all your support :)

Also in our Discord, we will regularly share our development progress and maintain close communication with players. As we believe that to polish up an ideal product, it is crucial to keep a humble attitude and always listen to opinions from the community. If you have any questions about the game, feel free to let us know in the Discord server.
