Look alive, Renegades! The following changes are available in HAWKED on Windows PC as of the latest update on Thursday, December 14, 2023. Update your game to the latest version on MY.GAMES Launcher or Steam to play HAWKED for free in Early Access.
NEW CONTENT

NEW SERVER: OCEANIA
A new server is now available: Oceania. This server will provide a smoother, more consistent gameplay experience for players in this continent, including countries such as Australia and New Zealand.

This server was implemented as a direct result of the passion and feedback from Renegades down under. Thanks for speaking up, see you on X-Isle!
LIMITED-TIME EVENT: HOLIDAY HEIST
Holiday Heist is available in HAWKED from December 14, 2023 until January 14, 2024! This limited-time event brings a raft of changes and a sleigh-load of holiday spirit to the game:

  • Holiday decorations can be found across the Riftwake and X-Isle.
  • A new line of Quests is available.
  • Players can earn a new holiday currency: Wonderment.
  • New holiday cosmetics are available as event rewards by exchanging Wonderment with Dr. Bjorn Bjornsson.
  • Additional holiday cosmetics are available to purchase in the Shop with GE-0 Cash.
IMPROVEMENTS & ADJUSTMENTS

GENERAL IMPROVEMENTS
• Added Buff descriptions to relevant Artifacts and Gear. This was a popular request we received from players over on Discord!
  • Added new audio effects while using a whip on the Traverser.
  • Added audio effects for steps and slides in the pool by the beach furniture in the Riftwake.
  • Added voiceover lines for GE-0 in GRAIL.
  • Added new pop-up windows informing the player that “Game Restart is Required.” This will be displayed when we launch a new update or patch that does not require a period of maintenance and downtime.
  • Improved the pickaxe animation when using your Traverser on Wonderium nodes across X-Isle.
  • The [Heart] Glyph, previously exclusive to Lone Hunter (Solo), has now been added to Treasure Hunt (Squad). Unlike in Lone Hunter (Solo), your squadmate can still resurrect you, and in such cases, the extra life will not be expended. We will be closely observing any changes to the flow of matchmaking battles in connection with this change, as well as your feedback on it to further refine its design.
X-ISLE
• Dr. Bjorn Bjornsson no longer reminds Renegades of basic mechanics after undergoing training.
  • Fixed the display of names in areas and locations on X-Isle when playing in Arabic.

  • Fixed an issue where contextual action callouts would show when holding a charged attack with the Ultra Hammer.
  • Fixed an issue with bullet drop while wielding the weapon Dark Spark. This is not intended as no energy-based weapon should have bullet drop.
  • Fixed an issue where Islander Staff damage was dealt incorrectly with jumping or falling attacks.
  • Fixed an issue where it was not possible to climb ledges when using the Islander Staff.
  • Fixed an issue where players could attack immediately after jumping. This was resolved as some players were abusing a jump-and-attack animation cancellation exploit.

Dev Diary #2: Early Access Launch and Beyond

Hey, Renegades! Andy Duthie here, Executive Producer for HAWKED, back again with another Dev Diary.

HAWKED is now available in Early Access, and we’ve given console players a taste of what’s to come in the recent Crossplay Open Beta. Our team is firing on all cylinders, but it’s clear we’ve still got a lot of work to do. So we’re tackling issues and all of your feedback and reports head-on and shoring up HAWKED for a successful launch in early 2024.

In today’s Dev Diary, join me for a look at how the Early Access launch went, what our limited-time events will look like, and all the upcoming content and updates we’re focused on right now.
EARLY ACCESS LAUNCH
First of all, I’d like to say a massive thank you to all the Renegades who joined us already in the first few weeks. I know it’s a big ask to put your faith in a game Early Access, so we’re committed to repaying your faith by shoring up HAWKED and preparing it for an amazing 2024 and beyond.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

The launch was not as smooth as we wanted. We faced a lot of challenges, bugs that impacted or prevented gameplay, and some unfortunate instances of downtime. Though frustrating, our downtime and maintenance—whether scheduled or unscheduled—have been necessary for us to apply fixes and roll out a smoother, more polished build. Now, though, we are starting to move towards a period with a lot more certainty and regular patches.

As thanks for sticking with us through the turbulence, we’re gifting all Renegades a 3-day GRAIL+ subscription. It’s available to claim for free via the in-game Shop now until Monday, December 18 at 08:00 CET / 01:00 PST.
WHAT WE’VE FIXED SO FAR
Here’s a rundown of some of the biggest improvements in the first couple of weeks, all possible thanks to your feedback and playtime:
  • Matchmaking improved
    • We want players to have a satisfying matchmaking and in-game experience no matter where they are or when they’re playing.
    • During busy periods, skill-based matchmaking prioritizes matching players into fully populated matches with low ping and shorter waiting times.
    • Matchmaking may take slightly longer in quieter periods, but matches will not be fully populated to prioritize low ping and a better play experience.
  • Crash instances massively reduced
    • We’ve worked hard to reduce the number of crashes you experience, and with your help, we’ve reduced this to below 3.8%. Our current goal is to have this below 1%, so we still have some work to do.
  • Server and client optimization
  • Hoverboard fixes
  • Frame drops resolved

After initial reports from day one players, we resolved most of these issues with hotfixes in the first week of December. This goes to show how important your feedback and reports are. We’re still actively monitoring all data and reports, and we’re keenly focused on improvements to matchmaking, technical stability, reducing crashes and their causes, FPS improvements, and authentication issues.

The team truly appreciates your patience as we continue working on fixes. Patch notes and hotfix notes are published regularly in English on the website and Steam, so please take a look for more details about what we’ve improved and fixed so far.

One final note. Feedback on bugs and needed improvements is crucial, but knowing what you like is good too! If you’re digging HAWKED, or if we’ve squashed your major bugbears so far, be sure to drop us a review on Steam. Your support means the world to us, and we’ll keep working diligently to earn it.
LIMITED-TIME EVENTS & HOLIDAY HEIST
We think it’s essential to give you new experiences to keep the game fresh and exciting, whether through map changes, quests, events, new rewards, or a combination of all the above. We have a raft of limited-time events penciled in for HAWKED in 2024, and we can’t wait to roll them out!

Kicking off this week, get ready for Holiday Heist. This festive update sees Cynthia Keene perplexed by a case of missing presents in the Riftwake—sounds like a job for you Renegades, right? X-Isle will be decked out in twinkling decorations, there’s a festive questline to tackle, and you can unlock a sleigh-load of free rewards. New items will also be available in the Shop to help get your Renegades in the holiday spirit.

The scale of limited-time events may differ. Holiday Heist is an Early Access test for larger-scale events—not all events will last so long or come with full map makeovers, for example. Still, we thought the first holiday season in HAWKED was worthy of a fitting celebration.

Look out for the new update dropping on December 14.
NEW FEATURE INBOUND: CONTRACTS
Back in Open Beta, you told us you wanted more things to do in-match, from tackling new activities to earning rewards. We will deliver this in a near-future update with a new feature: Contracts. Undertake them to add extra goals to your match, including more PvE- or PvP-focused gameplay challenges or specific requests like extracting a particular color of Trinket.

As we develop this feature, these time-based quests will offer incentives like currency (including GE-0 Cash for top hunters), XP, and more upon completion. Compete with other players to raise your standing on the leaderboard and enjoy even more rewards from the GRAIL Shop!
WHAT ELSE ARE WE WORKING ON?
Whether you’re actively sending feedback, completing surveys, or just playing the game as intended, you’re helping provide valuable data and learnings so we can improve HAWKED. It’s been incredible to hear all your feedback so far and we are continuing to improve the game to match this. Through Early Release, we will continue to raise the bar and get the game where it needs to be for full launch.

Here’s a quick rundown of what we’re working on in the immediate future:
  • 2024 Roadmap: In the next Dev Diary, we’ll reveal the 2024 roadmap for HAWKED. That includes launching on more platforms like PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
  • Holiday Heist: Our first limited-time event, launching December 14.
  • More Patches: New updates and hotfixes will roll out as soon as they’re ready to address issues. Keep up the great work sending us feedback so we can keep pumping out updates, Renegades!
  • Australia/Oceania Server: As a direct result of the passion of Renegades down under, we’ve ordered a new server, especially for this region. Thanks for speaking up, and stay tuned for more updates!
  • Crossplay Open Beta Feedback: The second Crossplay Open Beta ended on December 11. Thanks so much to everyone who played. A special shoutout to our first Renegades on Xbox! We’re still processing feedback and data from this playtest, but I’m happy to say we’re full steam ahead to launching on PlayStation and Xbox in early 2024!
  • Technical Performance Survey: If you’ve joined our Discord, keep an eye out for a survey asking for your expectations around technical performance.

This is just a taste of things to come. Keep an eye on our website and official social channels for the latest news, updates, and hotfixes.

With HAWKED in Early Access, we’re relying on your feedback to help push us over the finish line to a full launch. We try to be vigilant regarding fixes, improvements, and new features, but ultimately, our work and success hinges on you. So please jump on Discord to join the wider Renegade community and share your thoughts, feedback, and ideas with us.

Thanks for reading, Renegades! See you next time.

Weapons Guide: A Renegade’s Arsenal

There’s no shortage of choice when it comes to weapons in HAWKED. Besides being a great way to flex your personal Renegade style with Weapon Patterns, there’s a gun, armament, and grenade to suit every playstyle under the storm.

While you can only hold on to two weapons and one grenade type at a time (can’t we hoard ‘em all?), having a rough idea of what loadout to go for is half the hunt.

Join us for a closer look at weapons, different types, how to identify them, ammo, grenades, and where on the Riftwake you can try them all out.
WEAPON RARITY
With great rarity come great weapons! Affecting weapon parameters such as damage, rate of fire, recoil control and spread, magazine size, and cooling, you can recognize a weapon's rarity grade by its icon’s background color.
WEAPON AMMO
There are three ammo types in HAWKED, each used for different weapon types. You can find ammo in loot crates and weapon stashes, and by purchasing it from GRAIL shop stations.

  • Plain Ammo: Plain ammo may sound mundane, but it's used in more weapons than any other type of ammo. It'll keep your pistols, SMGs, and assault rifles locked and loaded.
  • Efficient Ammo: Used in shotguns, snipers, and other high-damage weapons, efficient ammo brings the heat.
  • Energy Ammo: used to fuel the energy-based weapons recovered by GRAIL from the advanced yet abandoned outposts across X-Isle. By allowing Renegades to use these reclaimed energy weapons, GRAIL hopes to learn more about their mysterious creators.
WEAPON TYPES
There are plenty of categories of weapons in HAWKED, with many differences between guns, from recoil to their scope interface, and how they sound.
SNIPER RIFLES
Essential for those long-range shots, they won’t know what hit ‘em.

  • Peller SR17: High-caliber, bolt-action sniper rifle.
  • Quasar: Semi-automatic with a triangular spread shot blast pattern.
  • Comet Cutter: Energy-powered & semi-automatic.
LIGHT MACHINE GUNS (LMGs)
Looking to lay down some long-range firepower? Look no further than the Light Machine Gun.

  • Goodfella: Gatling style & high RPM.
  • Foulstar: Energy-powered machine gun.
ASSAULT RIFLES
They’re versatile, they’re classic, and they’re everything you need for mid-range combat.

  • Tightframe: Single-shot semi-automatic assault rifle.
  • Trident MAX: Burst-fire assault rifle.
  • Steady 20-20: Burst-fire with delayed recoil system.
  • Fantome: Semi-automatic suppressed marksman rifle.
  • Zed 92: Classic fully-automatic assault rifle.
  • Penumbra: Energy-powered and fully automatic.
SUBMACHINE GUNS (SMGs)
More compact than their LMG cousins, and better suited to close-range combat.

  • Moonduster: Energy-powered burst-fire.
  • GARR 21: High RPM with advanced recoil for high control.
  • Mazzikin: An absolutely classic SMG.
  • Duonic: Double-barreled energy-powered SMG.
PISTOLS
Small, deadly, and concise–the perfect combination for mid to close-range combat.

  • R&M Governor: High-caliber & high-damage.
  • Autotack: Burst-fire.
  • Hardtack: Semi-automatic.
  • Dark Spark: Energy weapon with overcharge.
SHOTGUNS
Shotguns fire powerful blasts that are most effective at shorter ranges, good for scaring Disciples off your lawn.

  • Muldoon: Pump action.
  • Hasta Luego: Sawn-off double-barrel.
  • Tyrant-8: Fully automatic with a drum magazine.
UNIQUE WEAPONS
Stand out while you’re on the hunt with big hits and big energy. Disciples and rival Renegades, we recommend you scatter.

  • Neo-Riot: Direct-fire grenade launcher.
  • Supernova: Charge shot energy-powered laser gun.
GRENADES
Things that go ‘boom’! Pull the pin, count, throw, and watch the fireworks.

  • Frag Grenade: Just a classic explosive with classic ‘boom’ power
  • Poison Grenade: Explodes to create an area of effect that deals damage over time.
  • Stun Grenade: Stuns everything within its radius.
  • Anti-Shield Grenade: Places a shield-blocking zone on impact.
ARMAMENTS
Limited by charges, Armaments are a unique class of unconventionally powerful weaponry with complex mechanics. From heavy-hitting melee weapons to deadly—and sometimes not so deadly—guns, choose well to switch tactics and turn the tide.

  • Get-Up Gun: Support weapon. Aim/hip fire alternation for direct and Area of Effect healing.
  • Hotstepper: Aim/hip fire alternation for mine throwing/detonation.
  • Outrider: Aim/hip fire for alternating direct and homing charges.
  • Ultra Hammer: Heavy high-damage melee weapon.
  • Islander Staff: Fast melee weapon.

With so much variety of firepower available, GRAIL has equipped the Riftwake with a Shooting Range for Renegades to try them out. You can find all the weapons available in HAWKED there, as well as the Food and Mods found on X-Isle, making it the perfect place to craft your playstyle and prepare for your hunts!

IMPORTANT: All details are accurate at the time of writing, but are subject to change and expand as we discover more about X-Isle’s mysteries. Play HAWKED to discover all this and more for yourself!

Early Access marks another phase in the release of the ambitious third-person extraction shooter as it works its way up to full release. Steven Huot, CEO of The 4 Winds Entertainment, explained the choice for Early Access: “Our goal with HAWKED is to further our mission of fostering a cultural bridge between underserved communities and the global audience. Our summer Open Beta proved to be a great success, and this PC Early Access stage is an essential milestone leading up to a complete launch in early 2024. For our regional communities, we are dedicated to offering localized content in Turkish and Arabic, local servers located in the Middle East, and more affordable prices for selected countries. Our continuous objective is to improve HAWKED, hoping to make it the most entertaining and intuitive extraction shooter available. We are very happy that our communities are a part of this adventure, and we truly appreciate that."

As a further incentive to join the Early Access, The 4 Winds Entertainment and MY.GAMES has launched the ‘Renegade Rally’ campaign. Players that enlist during the rally will receive rewards and a chance at winning special prizes, which includes a lifetime supply of premium currency. The more people that enlist, the better the rewards and prizes become for the entire group, players might be renegades but standing together certainly has its perks. HAWKED is an extraction-shooter in which teams of up to three players or solo race to collect and extract Artifacts from a remote island called X-Isle. Players (also known as Renegades) compete against each other to secure and extract Artifacts that can only be reached by fighting monsters, other players, solving puzzles and avoiding traps.

The first team to successfully extract Artifacts from the island wins the session. To ensure that every session is rewarding, players can also extract smaller treasures, and leave the island (dead or alive) with useful currency they can spend on improving their character.

Fight Dirty
Scavenge guns and ammo to fight other players and monsters in PvPvE encounters across the island. Strategically use your environment and utilize underhanded tactics to get the better of your opponents. Set up ambushes while other players are solving puzzles, or use the trap filled tombs to your advantage by luring other teams to their doom, no tactic or trick is above reproach when securing the artifact.

Customize your Renegade
HAWKED offers deep character customization. With a huge suite of apparel pieces, hairstyles and colors to visually customize their characters, players can mix-and-match Artifacts, gear, and boosters to create their ultimate treasure hunter and attune their gameplay to their preferred style.

Artifacts can be equipped once found on the island. They offer passive bonuses such as the ability to turn into a bush when crouching or offering a sixth sense for nearby enemies. HAWKED currently has 18 types of Artifacts. Players can combine three at the same time, and all Artifacts can be found and upgraded in multiple levels of rarity.

Players can use them along with 16 types of gears such as boomerangs, deployable covers, a scouting falcon, and more, offering a wide range of customization options and gameplay styles. Gears and Artifacts are upgraded using currency gathered from selling and/or dismantling treasure on the Riftwake, the game’s social space. From sneaky assassins, to team focussed support, in HAWKED players can take their ideal Renegade onto the island.

An Evolving Island
Players must explore X-Isle, a recently-discovered treasure trove filled with loot. However, the nefarious, scaly Disciples have also laid claim to the island, and will not give up their conquest so easily. X-Isle is an enormous dynamic map, with each session challenging players to compete on different parts of the island. Its treasures and Artifacts are hidden in boobytrapped temples and ruins throughout.

Players will also need to bring their wits to bear by solving puzzles to open doors and unlock important treasure troves. Matches will feature dynamic events such as an enormous Disciple Caravan carrying a treasure filled howdah on its back. This boss must be defeated to secure its Artifacts. Over time, X-Isle will evolve through updates, limited-time events, and seasonal launches.

More news about the full launch of HAWKED will arrive in the near future. The latest news and updates will be shared on the game’s official website and social channels.
