Promising RTS and city builder hybrid Darfall locks in release date

How many genres is too many to merge together in a new Steam game? Three? Four? Well, the real answer is: as many as you like, just so long as it keeps you hooked and offers up something novel. From what I've seen so far of Darfall - an upcoming mashup of RTS games, city builders, class-based RPGs, and horde-slaying action games - it seems to be finding that sweet spot. With its Steam demo leaving a good impression, this Paradox-back strategy game is shaping up nicely, and now Darfall has confirmed that its release date isn't too far away.

DevBlog #23: Soren - Paladin of the Sunsteel Legion

Ah, gather ‘round, noble souls, for today, I speak of the last to join Darfall’s roster for release: Soren, Paladin of the Sunsteel Legion.

A radiant force clad in sacred steel and bound by divine purpose, he is no mere knight - he is a living testament to Solara’s will.
The Sunsteel Path: Power in Devotion
The Paladins of the Sunsteel Legion are not born-they are forged. Through the sacred Rite of Illumination, they are transformed: taller, mightier, brimming with radiant strength. Their armor, hewn from blessed Sunsteel, is said to be impenetrable-save by the most accursed of blades.
But do not mistake Soren for a simple brute. He is a support hero, but in the right hands, he may very well be the strongest of them all.
Trait: Twin Auras of the Faithful

Aura Noctis
Active during the night, this aura banishes the darkness debuff for all nearby allies.

While others hide behind their walls when night falls, you march boldly into the gloom, unhindered.
Aura Solis
At dawn’s light, Soren’s divine aura heals up to three allies near him over time. No chants, no rituals-just quiet, radiant restoration.
Blessings: A Divine Resource
The Paladin draws upon Blessings, a unique resource with a maximum of three at a time.
His abilities fall into two sacred categories:
 • Blessing Generators - grant divine charges.
 • Blessing Spenders – require energy and one Blessing.

Plan wisely, and you’ll find Soren unleashing power more frequently than any other hero.
Abilities of the Sunsteel Champion

Light of Solara
A versatile spell: heals allies when grouped, or empowers Soren’s damage when he fights alone.
Divine Conversion
Perhaps the most curious magic of all - turn any Undead or Demon into your ally for a time. Even the vilest foes become your puppets beneath Solara’s light.
Dawnblade’s Wrath
A wide burst of radiant damage, ideal for repelling large waves. Simple, holy, effective.
Radiant Smite
A single-target strike that generates a Blessing. Reliable and blessed with purpose.
Solar Shield
Grants Soren a protective barrier. If broken, it explodes in divine fury. If it endures, it rewards you with a Blessing. Either way - victory.
Sunsteel Pact
Forms a bond with an ally, naming them an acolyte of the Order. When they strike the enemy, there's a chance to generate Blessings for you. Enlightenment through teamwork.

Soren: Life and Deeds

Born in the frozen wilds of Skolgard, young Soren witnessed the horrors of the Darfall Wastes firsthand. He survived - but his village did not.

The Sunsteel Legion found him amidst the ruins, and though it was their own blades that slew both monster and villager alike, Soren was chosen. Trained. Transformed.

He emerged from the Rite of Illumination not with hatred-but with conviction. Even knowing the truth of his past, Soren remains loyal, believing in the Legion’s cold justice as the only true path to peace.

Any citizen, soldier or lord wanting to become a paladin, must train for years, practicing faith and teachings of Solara in the Sunsteel Monastery as an acolyte.

In our library you can find more information about both Soren and Sunsteel Legion.

DevBlog #22: Garnet Ironfist – The Master Engineer

Ah, adventurers, let me tell you of a man whose hands shape the battlefield itself! Garnet Ironfist, the Engineer , is no mere warrior - he is a master of fortification, industry, and raw destructive force. With his master-forged hammers, he shatters enemies, reinforces defenses, and ensures your workers never slack off.

Let us explore the arsenal of this legendary builder of war!
Abilities: The Art of Destruction and Defense

Shatterstrike: Break the Line
With a mighty swing of his hammer, Garnet delivers a bone-crushing blow that slows enemy attack speed. Against powerful foes like orc warlords, this ability can be the deciding factor between victory and a swift, brutal defeat.
Ale for Everyone: The Engineer’s Elixir
Who needs magic when you have good, strong ale? Garnet tosses a mug to his workers, boosting their productivity and morale. Whether reinforcing your keep or expanding your economy, a well-timed drink can fuel an empire!
Defense War: The Bastion’s Shield
Garnet is a master of fortification, and with Defense Ward, he grants an aura of resilience to nearby allies and structures, reducing incoming damage. Whether your walls are buckling or your frontline is wavering, this buff turns the tide of battle.
Forge Cannon: The Artillery Masterpiece
No hero in Darfall wields such firepower! Garnet summons a massive cannon that automatically fires at incoming enemies. Use it as a mobile war machine or a core piece in your fortress, and watch enemies crumble beneath its relentless bombardment.
Engineer’s Wall: The Battlefield Architect
Unlike other heroes, Garnet alone can construct new structures! Instantly deploy barriers to block enemy paths, reinforce weak points, or shield your Forge Cannon, turning the battlefield into a fortress under your command.
Special Trait: Prospector’s Advantage
Garnet’s knowledge of industry grants him the unique ability to mine Iron veins from the very start. This early boost accelerates armor production, fortifications, and elite unit training, setting up a stronghold before enemies can even mount an offense.
The Legacy of Garnet Ironfist
Once a proud defender of Ironpeak Hold, Garnet’s family stood against the relentless orc invasions until their home fell to ruin. Having survived the Great Conflagration that turned the Verdan Expanse into a wasteland, he vowed never to let another fortress fall.

Over time, he founded the Ironfist Guild of Engineers, renowned for building unbreakable defenses. Their crowning achievement? Watermeuse Fort - a bastion on the edge of the Deadlands, standing firm against orcish hordes.

With steel, sweat, and ingenuity, Garnet ensures that what he builds will stand the test of time.
