COD on Xbox Game Pass suffers setback as CMA rejects Microsoft deal

The UK's Competition and Markets Authority determines that the ongoing Microsoft Activision Blizzard acquisition is blocked from completion, after months of back-and-forth discussions between all the parties involved. The denial of the closely followed deal, valued at a substantial $68.7 billion, is not just a setback for Microsoft, but for those hoping to see games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 appear on the subscription service Xbox Game Pass.

Counter-Strike 2 is everything Warzone 2 needed to be

When the long-awaited Counter-Strike 2 closed beta launched and its features were announced, Warzone 2 players watched in envy. While Infinity Ward reinvented the wheel by giving it corners, Valve has rounded its wheel and strapped an engine to it.

Warzone 2 was an opportunity for Call of Duty's battle royale to return to its dizzying pandemic popularity after a steady decline towards the end of its life. The original came at a time when people needed it more than ever, as friends that hadn't seen each other for months reconnected in Verdansk. With a spruced-up sequel, fans of the game hoped to experience some nostalgia and a vastly-improved BR experience through the release of Warzone 2.

However, the original Warzone's popularity was a product of not just the pandemic, but of its fast-paced gameplay too, with slide cancelling, light guns, one-shot snipers, and a tight map. So what did the sequel decide to do? Remove slide cancelling, make guns feel sluggish, remove one-shot snipers, and add large baron areas to its new Al Mazrah map. The game felt completely different, and it was worse off because of it.

Warzone 2 builds on pay-to-win DMZ content with MW2 Classic Ghost Pack

Warzone 2 builds on pay-to-win DMZ content with MW2 Classic Ghost Pack

If you're a Call of Duty veteran with fond memories of 2009's Modern Warfare 2, the Classic Ghost Pack that's now available in the more-recent Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 is a fantastic cosmetics bundle. However, as popular as these Ghost operator skins are, the bundle itself is proving problematic. Why? Well, Infinity Ward has continued to build upon it's pay-to-win offerings with more content designed to give players an advantage in DMZ. We're not talking about a particularly hard-to-spot skin, either. This is something that offers you a real advantage in-game; no one's happy about that.

If you're wondering why people are annoyed at this, you only have to look at what actually comes in the Classic Ghost Pack for MW2 and Warzone 2. Whether you're looking at your own in-game store page right now, or checking out the contents of the 2,400 COD Points bundle on this Modern Warfare 2 item store database site here, you'll be able to see that this bundle comes with two operator skins, two weapon blueprints, an emblem, a sticker, a loading screen, and a weapon charm.

However, it also comes with an additional Active Duty slot for DMZ - something that players who jump into this extraction mode a lot will benefit greatly from - and both the operator skins and the weapon blueprints come with unique DMZ benefits attached.
