Dungeons of Hinterberg review - a stunning adventure with a seedy side

Dungeons of Hinterberg developer Microbird Games may not have intended this, but the new RPG's arrival not long after the launch of Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree puts it in fun juxtaposition to the FromSoftware titan. Where that game has evolved the Zelda style of open-world exploration into a terrifying nightmare of tyrannical bosses, Dungeons of Hinterberg feels like a much more deliberately joyful adventure - albeit one that's served up with compelling combat and a rather delicious side helping of sinister political intrigue.

1 week to go!

We’re 1 week out from the launch of Dungeons of Hinterberg! Hopefully you’ve had a chance to get to grips with the game so far through our demos and all the information in our Hinterblogs. If you haven’t seen them, now’s a great time to go back through them and get clued up before you land in Hinterberg next week!

And, as if you didn’t have enough of a reason to dive into Hinterberg on day 1, we’re also throwing in some extra goodies if you buy within the first two weeks (as well as a 10% discount on the game itself)!

Firstly, you’ll receive the official game soundtrack. Written by Austrian natives Wobblersound, this soundtrack has been written exclusively for Dungeons of Hinterberg. Let them take you on an audible journey through Hinterberg!

Next, you’ll get ‘The Slayer’s Guide to Hinterberg!’, as seen in game! This book helps Luisa understand life in Hinterberg and its history, and it can help you too! Featuring gameplay tips, concept art from the developers and real-life inspiration for the in-game world!

Finally, you will be able to download exclusive wallpapers of all your (soon-to-be) favourite places in and around Hinterberg!

Promising new magical RPG launches expanded demo for Steam Next Fest

While I'm as excited as the next person for the imminent Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, I'm perhaps even more curious about the arrival of Dungeons of Hinterberg. Having spent ten hours in its magical alpine town, I've found myself completely enthralled by its charming characters and political strife. While there's still a little over a month to wait for the full launch, a new, expanded Steam Next Fest demo allows you to try out a good chunk of the game for yourself.
