DevBlog - Zangdar

Hello!
Welcome to the first dev blog from Naheulbeuk's Dungeon Master! I'm Terry, Community Developer for Dear Villagers. You're in the right place for those of you who have never played a game in the Naheulbeuk universe!
Otherwise, for those who already know Zangdar, this dev blog can be a guide to how to serve your
boss well!
Zangdar and the universe of Naheulbeuk
5 fun facts about Zangdar that you should know:
- Zangdar, real name Zangfil Darlan-Duchateau, was born in Glargh in 1446 to a bourgeois family, but his career prospects seemed bleak. Despite his parents' hopes that he would excel in sorcery, he proved a complete failure at it. He accidentally caused a disastrous incident and inherited a fortune but felt lost and bitter.
- Purchasing the Naheulbeuk Dungeon, Zangdar found his calling as a master and villain. However, his early attempts at dungeon management were chaotic, leading to a falling out with the Dungeon Treasury, leaving a lasting traumatic memory.
- Establishing his dungeon business, specializing in "statuettes and prophecies," Zangdar gained respect in the region by striking a deal with the village mayor. Adventurers flocked to his dungeon, but many met absurd and unfortunate demises.
- Struggling to retain competent staff and lacking a passion for organisation, he's been downgraded to the rank of shabby dungeon owner. In 1488, Reivax arrived and reluctantly re-established ties with the Dungeon Treasury, helping Zangdar financially by opening a tavern in the Dungeon.
- He is very irascible and impatient - this has always caused him problems in the use of magic, which requires patience and concentration. This is why he is very sensitive to all nuisances and gets angry easily.
Zangdar and the patience gauge mechanic
Well, in the game, your mission is to restore the Dungeon and, of course, make it profitable, reputable & attractive in the lands of Fangh! Work or get fired!
In the story mode, you play as Reivax, working for Zangdar, the Dungeon Master. When his patience gauge is empty, it's game over! Pay attention because it decreases when there are strikes, a raid fails, high-ranked minions resign and when some of his needs are not satisfied (hunger, fatigue, dirtiness, or the need to go to the toilet). On the other hand, his gauge increases when his minions gain prestige, a raid is successful, when the player unlocks a floor and when the same needs are satisfied.
In Sandbox mode, however, you can override Zangdar's objectives, and silence him and his comments and self-centred requests about how to run the dungeon. No patience meter, no layoffs.
Zangdar in Real Life!
As you may know, the game is based on the universe of the Dungeon of Naheulbeuk, a comedic high fantasy parody series created by John Lang. The series began in 2001 as a French-language online audio series following a party of adventurers in a fantasy role-playing game. John Lang wrote and produced the series, as well as performed most of the character voice.
We prepared an exclusive voice acting of John Lang for you! Have fun trying voice acting yourself and share your experience with us on Discord!
