We got a small patch coming in hot today, and it's localization related!

Localization

  • Updated the entire Japanese localization for the game to bring it more up to par with the tone of the game in English.
  • Adjusted the localization for "TIME OUT" in Brazilian Portuguese based on community feedback.


Bugs

  • Fixed an issue where the language switcher would default to LATAM Spanish even if regular Spanish was selected.


Gameplay

  • Shaved the toe hairs off Pizza King's feet.

We want to thank you all for the tons of positive reviews, amazing playthroughs and overall wonderful response to our little taxi game. The feedback you provided was also crucial for fixing some hiccups we encountered during our first week on Steam. Here’s what’s new!

[h3]Steam Deck Verified[/h3]

The game is now officially Steam Deck Verified and runs great, so you’re all more than welcome to take the Yellow Taxi on the road with you. Send us some pics while you’re at it, and let’s make a World Tour happen!



[h3]Bug-fixing and achievement tuning [/h3]

Some of you have called us out on our pretty basic achievement titles and descriptions, and instead of making up excuses, we decided to give them another go! If you still don’t like them, we’ll have no choice but to write them out in Italian. Mamma mia! For the full patch notes, complete with all the squashed bugs, scroll all the way down.

[h3]Hat today, gone tomorrow! [/h3]

Time is running out to snag our exclusive Limited Edition Burger Hat, which will disappear from Morio’s Hat Closet after May 9th, 2024. Though if you buy the game up until then, you get to keep it forever! Vroom now, or you’ll miss out on our ridiculous game-breaking hat!

[h3]Trading Cards Incoming[/h3]

We’re turning some of the amazing artwork we received into collectible Steam Trading Cards! Approval is still pending but they’ll be here sooner rather than later. Collect them all before Morio staples selfies of himself over all of them!

Gameplay improvements

  • Implemented additional safeguards for the 100% completion cutscene to address issues where chunks are not solid after the taxi is restored to its position.
  • Provided safeguards for handling controllers, particularly for Xbox Elite controllers, preventing game black-screen and providing specific error messages for debugging.
  • The Rocket no longer appears in the distance of Granny's Island if the final boss is not defeated yet.
  • Conveyor belts in Crash Test Industries now have a backup system to ensure that if the taxi is off of a conveyor belt, it stops moving as if it was on one.
  • Updated Morio's dialogue for unlocking Flip'O'Will.
  • Improved PICI's explanation of Super Boost.
  • Added a confirmation pop-up when attempting to delete a file.
  • Updated a certain character's animation to remove the pooping stance.
  • Confirmed the presence of colliders at Tosla HQ.
  • Removed unused funny faces 🤡.
  • During the Pizza Pepperoni Minigame, respawning at the checkpoint is replaced with using the auto-respawn system to ensure spawning inside the minigame area.
  • Sewers sign indicating the "inevitable death path" can no longer be destroyed.
  • Increased the "no respawn" area of giant gears to fix the Starman Castle bug where the taxi would respawn in the sky.
  • Ensured that the final Tosla level unlock-cutscene plays consistently.
  • Added extra safeguards for the final Tosla level cutscene to prevent the player from going Out of Bounds.
  • Updated achievement translations since we got called out by the community 🤬.
  • Improved Morio's bed sheets to a 600 thread count


Bugfixes
  • Set the correct flag for an NPC that only wants to engage in conversation.
  • Fixed a bug where Golden Bunnies in the level were not counted accurately.
  • Fixed visual stuttering of the camera and the taxi after extended playtime by increasing timer precision.
  • Fixed chunks in the Time Attack 3 level.
  • Fixed Achievement TV triggering near PICI, near the Tosla HQ portal.


Speedrun features

  • Speedrun timer now continues running even after collecting 100% of the collectibles.
  • Speedrun timer pauses during the 100% completion cutscene.


Accessibility

  • If the "Reduce Flashes" setting is enabled, various elements are now affected:
    • The light flickering in Morio cutscene at the start of the game is removed.
    • Flash during Double Boost removed.
    • The taxi no longer flashes during the spin of the Flip'O'Will.
    • Flashing removed from flippable boxes.
    • Level transitions tinted in a shaded orange instead of rainbow for reduced eye strain.


Demo

  • When importing data from a demo, ensured that coins in later levels are in the correct "uncollected" state.


Patch 1.0.4

Ok time for some more bug fixes today, making your experience about 4.20% better!

Bugs

  • Fixed missing colliders in the Tosla HQ level
  • Resolved issue in the Ruined Observatory level where the taxi would respawn at a high altitude due to the auto checkpoint system. This occurred when the respawn location intersected with the giant moving gears, causing the taxi to gain incredible vertical speed.
  • Attempted to fix conveyor belt issues in Crash Test Industries.
  • Implemented additional measures to potentially resolve the bug where the final cutscene would respawn the taxi on an unsolid floor.


The last two bugs we were not able to repro consistently on our end, so please let us know if you still encounter them!

Gameplay improvements

  • Added the option to skip the additional loading screen time by pressing the action button, allowing players to bypass the delay intended for reading the "welcome to" text, if already familiar with the game.
  • Enhanced controller functionality in Photo Mode, allowing faster camera movement.
  • Made minor UI adjustments for improved clarity.
  • One NPC now has stomach problems.


Speedrun features

  • Adjusted the speedrun timer functionality based on feedback from the speedrunning community. The timer now pauses only during level loading, after defeating the final boss, during the ending credits and during the new game cutscene.
  • Enabled the speedrun timer to display and operate within the pause menu.
  • Corrected level title placement in the initial level cutscene to prevent overlapping with the speedrun timer.


Demo

  • Importing a demo file now unlocks the Cloud 9 and Bombeach achievements, provided their conditions were met in the demo.


Steam Deck

  • Implemented virtual Steam keyboard for accessing cheats in the Big Picture mode or on the Steam Deck.


Fun fact: the TAG Lawyer NPC is based off Those Awesome Guys' actual lawyer!

Patch 1.0.3

It's a small one today, but we hope to have addressed the controller issues some of you have been facing!

[h2]Patch Notes[/h2]

Controller:

  • Enabled compatibility for multiple controllers when connected together, which should address most controller issues we've seen reported so far
  • Implemented controller mapping functionality for any connected controller, with the mapping applied universally to all connected controllers


Gameplay improvements:

  • Reduced screenshake when interrupting Flip'o'Will
  • Adjusted one poop in the game to be 1 cm higher to better reflect reality

  • If you played the Demo, the save file automagically transfers itself to the Full version of the game now
  • The game can now run even with a corrupted save file and it notifies you when that happens
  • The game now also backs up the you save file when you select it in the menu... just in case

  • Made the “Time Extended” less annoying and frequent
  • Literally patched a hole in Morio’s Lab
  • Fixed a door collider in Morio’s Lab not working from time to time
  • Slightly increased the water’s wetness property in Pizza Time
  • Made it impossible to unintentionally leave Bomboss’s area


[h3]Bugs[/h3]
  • Leaderboards now show the correct categories, oops :D
  • Fixed a bug where ghosts were not showing in time attack
  • Fixed a bug where the time attack timer ran faster over time
  • Level-specific speedrun timer runs even after you 100% complete the game
  • Level-specific speedrun timer now stops if there are no more gears and bunnies, considering those previously collected as well
  • Added an extra weight plate for lifters in The Gym to show progress over time
  • WASD no longer stop working in the menu after rebinding them
  • Made the achievement unlock system more robust (it was missing some unlocks before)
  • Golden cup on a certain spoiler level no longer grants achievement
  • Fixed a bug where your invincibility wouldn’t run out if you were in the slime in that same spoiler level
  • Invincibility song starts at the correct pitch and it no longer pauses in time attack when collecting gears


[h3]Others[/h3]
  • Buttons have better visual feedback in menus when they’re activated
  • Splash screens can be skipped faster if you keep mashing buttons like you know you do
  • Added a new cheat… but obviously not telling you which one
  • Improvements to the Japanese and Chinese translations
