Infantry Beta Update

This update adds the following...

1. New Infantry BETA mission which revolves around finding one or more IED factories in a civilian village. This mission is running in a testing mode so the village will be placed in allied territory and will be undefended. This is just to allow for more rapid testing - it will become much more difficult in the future :)

For now though, it showcases picking up and dropping off infantry units as well as having units outside your control performing their own mini missions - in this case the infantry will search a number of houses and you'll be able to watch them move around.

This mission also showcases the more in-depth radio communications that can occur during the missions.

To load infantry make sure your helicopter is equiped with seats for the troops. This means you need to use either the Lynx or Hind series of helicopters. Gazelles don't have enough seats and you can't split infantry units across multiple helicopters. Then simply land near the marked waypoint and open your doors and the infantry will "snap" into the seats.

To unload infantry it is the same proceedure. Land at the designated waypoint, open your doors and the infantry will disembark.

2. Updated the Alt Hold system so it automatically switches to finer control when your altitude is below 10m and speed less than 5ms (about 10kts). This allows you to perform much smoother landings while utilising the Alt Hold/Hover Hold system.

Once on the ground you can continue to reduce the target altitude to -1m. This will ensure the autopilot maintains 0% collective while you're landed.

3. Added a new "Nose Cam" position which places the camera on the nose of the aircraft (or there abouts) in much the same way a bonnet or bumper cam does in car games. The camera position is classed as an interior view so maintains the same Field of View as the other cockpit positions. It is also fully TrackIR compatible!

4. Added a new option in the "Game Settings" menu to turn off the rotor blades of your helicopter when in any interior view and is compatible with the "Nose Cam" position detailed above. The blades will remain fully visible in 3rd person view.

CH-47 Chinook Colour Schemes

These are the initial 7 colour schemes that the Chinook will come with. The Chinook will also be fully compatible with the current "Custom Textures" system so you'll be able to edit and create your own designs using your favourite image editing software.

CH-47 Chinook Incoming!

The "HERO" exterior for the CH-47 Chinook is now complete. Initially this will be an A.I. only helicopter as there is no interior modeling yet. As soon as the interior is available it will become a flyable helicopter.

Until then expect it to appear in future escort missions or even just as a background helicopter unrelated to your mission!

Public Branch Update

This update brings the public branch up to the same version as the infantry beta and includes some important bug fixes and features....

1. Infantry fix. I managed to track down a bug that was causing large FPS drops and everything is now working again correctly.

2. Updated the fuel usage for all helicopters using a simple calculation to approximate real world usage. Basically all helicopters have now got a longer range.

3. Added in the GUV-8700 gunpod for all Hind versions. Optimum range is around 1,500 - 2,000m as that is where the bullets will converge.

4. Improved the special effects for when bullets hit things!

5. Adjusted the bloom effect in the Targeting Pod camera. It's still using the old system so the effects do look slightly different than the main camera.

6. Fixed a bug on the Mi-24VP where the IR rotor blades would be visible in the main camera as they started to spin up.

7. Removed some log spam

8. Better fire effects. Fire now glows at night!

9. Better ricochets!

10. You can now lock on to individual infantry correctly.

11. Infantry can now be identified

12. New audio system for guns/gunpods. Currently only the GUV-8700 currently uses it. Other weapons will be upgraded very shortly.

Infantry Beta Update

This update adds the following...

1. Infantry now move again. I managed to track down the bug that was causing the FPS drops and everything is now working again correctly.

2. Updated the fuel usage for all helicopters using the following approximation equation....

(Fuel Capacity / (Max Range/Max Speed)) / 60 / 60

Most helicopters have got at least a doubling of their range - sometimes more. The only one to get a range reduction is the Harrier which actually makes sense seeing as it would nearly always be fitted with external drop tanks.

3. GUV-8700 ammunition has now been optimised for use against infantry dealing a bigger blast radius as well as having a slightly higher spread for the bullets. Optimum range is now around 1,500 - 2,000m as that is where the bullets will converge.
