March 24th, 2025 Patch Notes

Yomi 2 digital update dropped last night; a new replay feature to watch a player’s last played game, some changes to online gameflow, and bug fixes. Check them out below!

March 24th, 2025 PATCH NOTES
------------------------------------------------------------------
NEW CONTENT

You can now watch the replay for any player's last online match with a given character. On the leaderboards or on the profile screen, a new button lets you "Watch latest game" for that player.

The leaderboards rows are character-specific and let you see the latest game played with that character, while the profile screen's "Watch latest game" just shows you the latest game overall. (This will only show games played starting today though.)

Improvements
—In live online games, the first rematch now always alternates who's the first player relative to the first game.

—Forfeiting a live online game now lets you rematch, instead of quitting the entire set.

Bug Fixes
—Prismatic Shield now correctly avoids the block damage effect from the Lum item Coin.

—Fixed the online score screen sometimes not correctly showing the results from the last game in a set.

—Fixed Patriot Mirror incorrectly letting Quince use Dodge the Question (Z-bottom dodge) while knocked down.

—Fixed Midori's knockdown animation not playing correctly.

—Fixed the Patriot Mirror video playing twice when it would hit the opponent, but its damage is negated by Keep Away.

—Replays no longer confusingly show timers (including their annoying sounds).

—Fixed the discard viewer being accidentally left open over the game over screen if you deal lethal damage with Loyal Pets's 6 damage on knockdown.

—The leaderboards screen UI's "Watch latest game" and "Profile" keys now work correctly and display correctly in mouse mode.

—Fixed the "Click to stop spectating" yellow box being unclickable in the friends screen.

—When you get promoted to master leagues, only the character who won the final match gets to continue that win streak. The others' win streaks are reset to 0. (Because the win streak is shared between all characters during student ranks.)

—Valerie's stat card no longer incorrectly shows a "final normal" mark next to her E.

—Career mode: Fixed "Your win record at this location" to include tournament games played there.

—Career mode: Fixed several tweets that never triggered. Mostly those that encourage you to move on to the next location after placing in a tournament.

—Career mode: Your Room no longer accidentally uses your *last* tournament placing to describe "Your best finish was #5 with Lum". It now actually describes your best placing. (Oops.)

—Career mode: Tweets from beating opponents for the first time now award slightly more fans overall. (This change does apply retroactively to your existing career.)

March 4th, 2025 Patch Notes

Yomi 2 update; this time focusing mostly on fleshing out the “ranked” online queue experience; there’s now online rankings, leaderboards, player profiles, an XP system, and more.

March 4th, 2025 PATCH NOTES
------------------------------------------------------------------
NEW CONTENT

—Online rankings. In Live Play Online games, rankings are divided into Student leagues (Student 1 to Student 10), Master leagues (Bronze E to Bronze A, Silver E to Silver A, Gold E to Gold A, Diamond E to Diamond A), and the Legend league. Student leagues rank up all characters together, while Master and Legend leagues use character-specific rankings.

You gain stars for winning, gain extra stars for consecutive wins, and in the master leagues, lose a star for losing a match. Fill up the stars for your current rank to promote to the next division.

—New XP system, parallel to this ranking system, which mostly reflects your length of experience with the game - it only ever goes up. You gain +XP for every match you complete, for every match you win, for your first win of the day, and for the time spent in a match.

The ranking badge and XP circles appear in the Play Online screen (next to the quick-queue toggle), the character select screen for live online games, the pre-match versus screen, the replay rows, and the friends screen.

—New online info screen, a two-page overlay that explains how the online rankings work. It's shown when you click on the new (i) icon in top-right of the Play Online screen.

—New online post-match score screen, which shows how your ranking and XP change after each online match.

—Matchmaking now takes ranking differences into account, trying to match players within the same league first, then expanding the search to allow players of further-away leagues.

—New Leaderboards screen, where you can look up your rank among the global online rankings, filtered by league, character, or your own friends.

—New profile screen, where you can check various stats about yourself or other players. You can access your own profile from the Reference menu screen, or other players' profiles from the friends screen, the leaderboards screen, or by looking them up directly from the profile screen.

—You can now set match timers in Single Player vs CPU and Pass and Play games. The new timer setting dropdowns appear in the difficulty select screen for Single Player vs CPU, and in the Pass and Play's setup screen.

Improvements
—When playing with timers enabled, a new timer sound alerts you when you're close to running out of time.

—Updated the sounds for the career mode brackets screen.

—When you or your opponent forfeits an online game, or your opponent disconnects and you "Claim Victory", you now get a saved replay of that game.

Bug Fixes
—Fixed Quince's Patriot Mirror accidentally being too slow: from speed 6 to speed 7.

—Fixed a typo on Lum's strategy card (English):

"whenever you dodge and hit back" => "whenever you dodge and *don't* hit back"

—Fixed a French text typo for Gwen's Dreadlands Portal: "block" => "dodge"

—Fix: When Rook has the orange gem storm active and gets his normal attack hit by a faster attack, Rock Armor no longer incorrectly stops his combo. (The orange gem storm is the stronger effect, letting Rook continue the combo to other normal attacks).

—Fixed visual card mods, like green speed changes from having the edge, sometimes persisting for too long.

—Fixed the gameplay music not playing when you get an online match with the "[x] Mute menu music" option checked.

January 8th, 2025 Patch Notes

Yomi 2 update; mostly some multiplayer game flow fixes, including a match timer option, but also some UI updates and bugfixes. Check out the full notes below.

January 8th, 2025 PATCH NOTES
------------------------------------------------------------------
New Content

Match timers for online games. When a match uses timers, each player has an on-screen meter of 3 bars of time. The timer depletes if it's your turn to act, and when it reaches zero, the game automatically plays a timeout move for you, which is usually "Done" or playing the leftmost hand card.

"Live Online" matches (from the matchmaking queue) now use slow timers. Online friend matches default to not using timers, but you can now choose to use them anyway, setting them to Slow, Normal, or Fast speeds.

Some details:

—You start at a full 3 bars and can never gain more than that.

—When you start your main phase, you gain +1 time bar.

—When the opponent starts their main phase, you gain +0.5 time bar.

—Whenever you play a meaningful move and you're still the active player afterwards, you gain a small +2s.

—Whenever you gain any timer, you always fill up to at least a minimum of 5s.

Improvements

—The gem select screen now shows tooltips for the gem cards when you mouse over them, or when you zoom them. (Ex: Unsafe on block, knockdown, armored...)

—QoL: Persephone's Dominance "fetch 4 cards" is now aware of your hand limit, so if you can only fetch 2 cards before hitting the hand limit, the UI will now say that you can fetch 2 more cards, rather than 4 (and so on).

—QoL: When against River's stances, Bleeding Wounds no longer shows a popup claiming that "Bleeding Wounds: Nether Orb discards ", since Finesse stance cards cannot be discarded.

(The Finesse card already correctly returned to hand, but it's less confusing to skip the entire Bleeding Wounds popup in this situation.)

—Flash Heal (Gloria Z) now triggers to return to hand before Invigorating Winds (white gem storm) triggers drawing 2 cards, rather than after.

(They both trigger "at the end of combat", but doing it in this order avoids the bad feeling of ever having Flash Heal fail to return to hand because of the hand limit.)

—When Alternative Facts (Quince ability) fetches more cards than the player has space for in their hand (during Patriot Mirror), the player can now choose which cards to fetch.

—When Grappling Mastery (Midori ability) fetches more throw cards than the player has space for in their hand, the player can now choose which cards to fetch.

—Improved the computer performance of the AI. This especially improves Gwen's AI performance.

—Gwen AI improvements.

Bug Fixes

—Fix: Mistress's Command can now correctly control the Tyrant Crusher on-hit effect phase. Not that this will ever happen on purpose to any human playing this game.

—Fixed Final Authority's discard condition when it's a foreign ability during Ability Mismatch.

—Fix: Research & Development no longer puts itself on top of the deck if it's no longer in discard at that point.

—Fix: Yagami Counter now correctly deals damage, even when it's used when Keep Away or Invisible (from Surprise Gift) is active.

—In Slugger's Delight and Guard Staredown, which have "If you open with and don't get hit, draw a card", you now get to draw the card before playing your combo cards, rather than only draw it at the end of combat.

—Fixed several cases where an effect icon that counts down over a number of turns (ex: Deathstrike Dragon or Fireworks) could temporarily get visually duplicated, especially when playing against the AI.

—Prohibition no longer incorrectly goes to the Ongoing zone for one turn.

Its effect also no longer stays pending indefinitely when it's affecting River in Finesse or Hyper Finesse stances. (Instead the effect fizzles and does nothing.)

—Midori's Dragon Form transformation now happens before Invigorating Winds (white gem storm) draws 2 cards at the end of combat. (Dragon Form doesn't say to wait before transforming.)

—When Geiger uses Echoes of the past to draw cards from powering up, the powerup pair now gets discarded before Geiger draws cards.

—Gem storm particles no longer intermittently appear over the discard overlay. (It looked glitchy.)

—Fixed Ability Mismatch foreign ability cards showing the incorrect card art.

—Fixed Chains of Ice (Gwen Z)'s hit reaction and sound being accidentally delayed by 5 entire seconds.

—Fixed the Event Hall tournament Ability Mismatch sometimes giving you a duplicate of your existing ability when you choose Random as your character.

—Career fix: Don't show the "View Quests" pause button when playing at the Event Hall, which does not have any quests.

—Fix: In Gem Bonanza, when Orange burst replenishes the extra gem storm, it now visually replenishes right away instead of only doing so at the end of the whole animation sequence.

—Don't show "Knocked down: Lose the edge" when you lose your own edge by knocking down the opponent. (It's confusing because you're getting something better than the edge that way.)

—Fixed the known-hand-cards failing to remember when you use Phase Out to fetch another copy of Phase Out, and other similar situations where you fetch cards during combat.

—Visual fix: When you take an extra hit while knocked down (ex: Slots of Fun summons Coin), then instead of awkwardly standing up to play the get-hit animation, your knocked down character now flashes red to take that hit.

—When Gwen plays Desperation and gets her life reduced below 0 during that combat, the life counter will now properly show negative values right away, instead of briefly showing 0.

—Added hit effects to Rushing River's goldfish.

—Don't show cards in a "penalized" red highlight when they can only be played as pumpers.

(Ex: Bursts are red-highlighted after a dodge because they can't trigger their effect, but they are no longer red-highlighted when you can discard them to pump another card.)

—The first Shadow Plague log icon now correctly appears after the first turn's turn start log icon, instead of before.

—When Phase Out hits Argagarg and causes his Poison to get discarded, the "Phase Out hits back for 8 damage" message now appears first, and the "Poison ends after getting hit" message appears second, rather than the opposite.

—The replay controls for "slower" and "faster" buttons now look like the actual ▸▸ double-triangle fast-forward symbol, instead of a >> double chevron.

—Improved the visuals of one of the Chinese fonts.

—Several localization fixes for text in the replays screen, and for "Fans" on career mode screens.

—Fixed German typo for Bag of Tricks ("abund" => "ab und").
