Major Feature Update šŸ† šŸ¾

šŸ“¢ Hello, Golden Lap enjoyers!

Fasten your seatbelts, because the next major update is finally here, and it’s packed with new features and quality of life improvements!

To start off, we’re excited to announce that Golden Lap now supports standard and ultra-wide aspect ratios! We also added a frame rate cap setting for when you’re not using vsync. And you can now manually change the zoom during gameplay.

Besides features, this release brings you a happier weather forecast! ā˜€ļø We tweaked the chances to get rainy weather, making weather changes on rainy days feel more dynamic with tracks drying out faster and giving you the opportunity to use various tyre compounds.

Finally, we increased the chance for team members to gain or lose skill points at the end of a season. While this can boost your team’s performance next season, don’t slack, because the competition will also grow more fierce!

Highlights
  • Golden Lap now supports standard (e.g., 4:3) and ultrawide (e.g., 21:9) monitors and aspect ratios
  • added extra setting to Cap the frame rate when vsync is disabled in ā€œsettings > graphicsā€
  • you can now zoom in and out with the mouse scroll wheel during Quali and Race (key bindings for zoom are also available in ā€œsettings > controlsā€)
  • extra mouse buttons can be bound / mapped to in-game actions now in ā€œsettings > controlsā€ (note that LMB actions cannot be changed)
  • all Team Members can gain skill points (Early and Mid Career) or lose skill points (Late Career) more often now
  • added a parallax effect to clouds (can be enabled / disabled in ā€œsettings > graphicsā€)
Gameplay Improvements
  • tracks with the ā€œwetā€ trait now have a more dynamic weather - they can dry faster and there’s less chance for wet and torrential weather
  • after a red flag in Quali AI drivers now use a more advanced pit exit strategy to avoid getting stuck behind other drivers
  • changing Engine Mode during red lights at the start of a Race no longer affects sponsor challenges
  • when 2 Drivers or 2 Teams have the same amount of points, the one who achieved the points first is placed higher in the Standings
UI Improvements
  • added a Leader column in Standings to display the time gap to the leader
  • renamed Gap column in Standings to Interval for the English localization to improve clarity
  • added a Penalty column to Team Dashboard Results and post-race Season Results to show if a team has lost points due to Spy action
  • added Season Bonus info to Dashboard
  • the Assemble button now changes to Build Car if you select to Keep all team members during Pre-Season
  • removed ā€œmay not overtakeā€ from yellow flag notification in Quali to avoid confusion as cars on different laps let each other pass (e.g., if one is in out lap and the other in in lap) even if they drive slower due to the flag
  • updated description of the ā€œFinish the race with less than half a lap of fuel leftā€ sponsor challenge to clarify the driver must be on the leading lap to complete the challenge

  • traits are now applied correctly only once in-game even if they’re duplicated or added multiple times to the same team member in the mod
  • ModSettings.json is now accepted when only StartYear or only DisableDriverDeath is set
Bug Fixes
  • confirming Tuning in Quali and Pit Stop in Race with Enter key now works without issues
  • fixed issues causing Golden Tune sponsor challenges to not complete in certain cases
  • sponsor challenge to get drivers in consecutive positions is correctly completed even when one or both drivers DNF
  • fixed an issue where Grand Chelem achievement wasn’t unlocked if you restarted the game after Quali
  • fixed a rare issue that made it impossible to build parts before the first race weekend
  • fixed issues with Finesse and Design Master Engineer traits not being applied correctly in certain cases
  • corrected description of the Perfectionist Crew Chief trait
  • retiring team members at the end of season now correctly wear the suit of their own team
  • fixed an issue where Standings panel in Dashboard didn’t show replacement drivers correctly before they completed their first race
  • DNF drivers no longer complain when they get overtaken
  • fixed issue where hovering over driver names in Standings panel will make the highlight disappear
  • fixed an issue where sometimes partied too hard and invigorated notifications will show for the player’s team, even when the team member is on a different team
  • car setup is now correctly saved if you immediately quit to menu after equipping a part
  • fixed misc UI issues - misaligned buttons and panels, localized text not fitting correctly
  • fixed negative traits showing +- before the value instead of just - (minus)
  • fixed headless portrait of driver Ian MacDonald
  • settings and panels now update in real time after changing localization
Known Issues
We need more information in order to investigate the following rare issues. If you experience any of them, we’ll appreciate it if you can report it to us. Please follow the instructions below:
  • Issue 01: An injured driver is not replaced and participates in the next race. Please manually collect the logs and save files and either send them to us by email or on Discord. For instructions on how to do it, see the How to Report a Bug post.
  • Issue 02: After a Race some drivers with a slower total time will be higher in the Standings. From the Standings screen where you can see the drivers’ placements being out of order and their times, use CTRL+F to send an in-game report.
  • Issue 03: Pit stop SFX sometimes keeps repeating even after you exit the pit stop. If you're able to reproduce this issue consistently, please let us know the exact steps.

Hey, Golden Lap enjoyers!

ā„¹ļø After learning that some of you were having trouble with the Cinderella Story achievement, we decided to revise the requirements. Going forward, to unlock the achievement, your team must finish a season at least 5 places higher in the team standings than they were in the previous season. If you already have the achievement, don't worry, it will remain unlocked.

āš ļø A quick reminder for modders: Before publishing your mod or reporting bugs, please resolve any errors and warnings to ensure a smoother experience for everyone. In the recent updates, we've made several improvements to debug, so if your mod is already published, it's still worth checking it with the latest build.

Inspired by thrilling events from the 70s, the spy feature lets you send a spy to another team to sabotage the opponent or steal their best parts. But be careful - if your spy is caught, you’ll face penalties!

In addition to the new features, we've made significant balance changes and enhancements. We've limited part building to one per race weekend, ramped up the aggression of AI drivers, and increased the chance of team members "partying too hard" the night before a race.

ā„¹ļø The Spy Update levels the playing field, helps underdog teams compete, makes late game more competitive, and provides opportunities to spend your extra budget or playfully disrupt other teams.

Spy Update
  • the player and the AI can send a spy to another team (costs $10 per spy, up to 1 spy per weekend, up to 2 spies per season)
  • the spy can copy a part design (gets you a free part)
  • the spy can sabotage a part (failure results in a penalty)
