Devlog #15 - Mysterious New Arrival

Greetings, Void Hunters!

Welcome to Devlog #15, where we’re serving up a heaping plate of a spicy surprise! The team’s been hard at work on something ancient, something unseen, something that will tickle your fancy…
The Whisperer of the Void: A New Character Approaches…
Who—or what—lurks in the shadows? We’ve hinted, we’ve teased and in our last update announcement, we showed you these silhouettes:

Many of you have dared to guess on what, or who, these 3 could possibly be…. and maybe we made it too easy, because some of you were spot on on at least one of them!

So as a reward, it’s time to pull back the curtain… and today we are happy to reveal the Void Hunter coming to the game with our next update… the Shaman!
The shaman channels powers older than the Void itself. Cloaked in ancient secrets, controlling the forces of nature itself and armed with a badass whip, this new character will bring a fresh take with a much asked for playstyle to the roster.

Wanna know more about the Shaman?—Stay tunned and check out next devlog!
Closing Thoughts: The Calm Before the Storm
This devlog is just the tip of the iceberg. The New upcoming character is part of a massive content wave crashing onto the shores of Soulstone Survivors over the coming weeks. We’re cooking up more secrets, more chaos, and more ways to lose yourself in the Void—stay sharp, Void Hunter.

Let us know in the comments:

- What do you think the rest of the Shaman’s abilities will be?
- Who could the other two shadows behind the shaman be?

Your theories fuel us! Keep ‘em coming!

As always, thank you for your boundless passion and patience. The best is yet to come…

New Update: Community Skins

Hello Survivors! :cozyroe:
The Community Skins update is here as our 15th update! Explore skins created by the community and share your own! Explore the new game visuals, updated ascensions and more!
We have prepared a video highlight of the key things you can find in this new update, check it out below!
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Community Skins are here!
Create and share your own character AND weapon skins with the Soulstone Survivors community! Immortalize your name as the author of the cooler skins, and download and play with the creations of others!
Revisited Ascensions!

Hound Master
It seems like the Hound Master somehow found a way to feed his hounds with extra enhanced meat! Your dogs now grow in size every time they are well fed, gaining exponential buffs so long as you are able to keep them fed, after all larger dogs require more food!
Legionnaire
The Legionnaire’s days of building catapults are over… instead, he now earns glory in battle by assisting his brothers in arms, becoming a Centurion in charge of an army against the Void!
Revamped Scenario Visuals
Completely revamped scenarios for the Main Menu, Scorching Valley and Whispering Grove for cooler looking scenarios to be more in line with some… future content coming*wink wink*
Faster loading times
Tons of changes across the game for faster and smoother loading times of gameplay scenes and save files. Save files are now a lot smaller than they used to be and faster to process so these changes will be *very* noticeable if you had a lot of matches in your profile!
General changes and fixes:
• New Loading screen so that you have feedback that the game is actually working;
 • Fixed a very rare issue where you could cause poison damage to enemies while the game was paused in a very specific scenario;
 • Fixed an issue where Doom would not cause its area damage, if the target was killed by a non-doom damage (now Doom should be stronger);
 • Fixed an issue where Doom would trigger its execution but not effectively kill the target, which was an inconsistency in the calculation;
 • Improved pagination in Achievements and Profile screens, so that scroll is faster and performance considerably better on those screens (especially if you had a ton of matches);
 • Key bindings in the Options menu are now shown as icons (such as a mouse button icon, instead of “MOUSE RIGHT”);
 • Fixed an issue where if you died, your health bar would still show 1 health;
 • Fixed an issue where Lightning Surge would be considered an Area skill;
 • Fixed an issue where Fan of Bombs and Bladed Chackram would not turn invisible with visibility set to 0;
 • Fixed Assassin ascension not benefitting from cooldown reducing power ups when starting new endless cycles;
 • Fixed an issue where skills like QT Land Surprise (very specific scenarios) would not properly count as a source of negative effects, such as Bleed in this case;
 • Fixed tooltip error in Wild Strike which was showing more Finesse than intended;
 • Fixed multiple issues with Gamepad navigation across the game;
 • Fixed the description of Electrified to properly mention it applies Dazed, and not Stun;
 • Fixed an issue where the health bars in certain cases would not show the correct amount of negative effects currently on the target;
 • Fixed an issue where the “Favourite Skill” in your player profile was using the wrong value;
 • Fixed small issue with Unholy Cathedral colliders;
 • Fixed multiple issues with UIs scaling incorrectly depending on screen resolution, most noticeably on the Steam Deck;
 • Fixed an issue where Achievement tooltips could be shown in weird positions depending on the position of the achievements;
 • Fixed soulstones UI becoming transparent making them hard to read in certain screens;
 • Fixed an issue where the skill tree tooltips of characters could show the incorrect number of required nodes;
 • Fixed Map Selection screen not playing the Game Mode sound on gamepad;
 • Fixed the mouse scroll speed of the damage breakdown panel in the Unholy Cathedral which was too fast;
 • New sound effects for a bunch of menus in the game;
 • Tons of adjusted and new sound effects for existing skills that either had incorrect sounds or no sound at all after recent changes;
 • New “Death” soundtrack;
EDIT: Hotfix Update 15a4:
• Fixed an issue where Steam Achievements would not be granted for crafting weapons (those will be retroactively awareded the next time you play the game);
 • Reduced Legionnaire's interaction time with fallen soldiers from 1 to 0.5 seconds;
 • Fixed an issue where the new Legionnaire ascension could make you much larger than intended;
 • Fixed an issue where the new Legionnaire ascension could leave permanente markers in-game;
 • Reduced the "redness" of the new Legionnaire ascension screen effect;
 • Fixed an issue where the "Pause of focus loss" option was not working as intended;
 • Fixed an error with texts in a few languages where the game would spam errors in the background, leading to some performance degradation;

We hope that this update will not only bring some fun little toys for you to play with but overall improve the stability of the game!

As always we wanted to thank you all very much for your support! There is still a ton of stuff coming and we can't wait to share more with you! And thats it for today!

.... or is it?

We know that some of you might be curious about things like... "where's the new game mode?"... or "those maps coming or what?"... or even "where are the new characters?"... so how about... a little guessing game? The 3 remaining characters are in the image below, can you guess who they are?? Let us know in the comments!

Devlog #14 - Reworked Ascensions Gameplay & Community Skins

Greetings, Void Hunters!

Welcome to the second Soulstone Survivors devlog of 2025! While we continue to work on some HUGE features in the background, we are also fine-tuning some of the ascensions that you’ve given feedback on. Back in devlog #11 we shared some early work-in-progress preview on it and today we are happy to share a sneak peak of a much more polished iteration of the new ascension gameplay.
Hound Master’s Ascension
We’ve mentioned before that we wanted to make Hound Master’s dogs a main part of his ascension, making it more visually interesting and exciting to play with. We’ve already shared some screenshots and details on how that would look like in game. Today, we are ready to share some actual footage of its new and improved gameplay:
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
As you can see, the doggies are now MUCH more expressive in showing their power. They now grow in size quite a bit and also glow in different colors when they gain a new level. While it gets harder and harder to maintain their power level with each upgrade, their buffs get exponentially stronger, so they can truly destroy everything. It continues to be a relatively low-effort ascension, but now with possibly huge rewards!

In the end we were able to honor the memory of our very own doggo, Zippie, in a very cool way. Rest in Peace, Zippie.
Legionnaire’s Ascension
In a very similar fashion, we previously discussed how and why we were going to change the Legionnaire’s Ascension. While we liked its idea, it always lacked some… punch. Now instead of building catapults, through your bravery in battle, you can be promoted to Centurion, calling the full support of your legion with powerful bonuses! Here’s how that looks like in game:
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Once you have patched up your fellow wounded soldiers, they will fight by your side until the bitter end. If you manage to save enough soldiers to have yourself a small army, the powers of a true spartan leader show, turning the skies blood-red, tinted with the rage of your legions. While active, your legion becomes a force to be reckoned with!
Community Skins
We’ve recently announced an early access to our new Community Skins feature! It’s been out for a couple of weeks now and we’ve already got over two dozen awesome skins of all kinds, from wizards to legendary medieval warriors, from dual-pistols to a pear-on-a-fork (that’s right!), crafted by our community. Check them out in our mod.io page

You can play with them right now by switching to the communityskins branch here on Steam. Follow the info on this post for how to get started.

You may recall from the announcement post that we’d be running a competition to award the most up-voted skins over the following couple of weeks. That competition has now finished and we are very happy with how it turned out. We’ll contact the winners over the coming days and prepare a showcase of the winning line-up!

If you fancy creating your very own weapons or characters to share with the community (or even to just for yourself), we’ve prepared some cool guides on how to get started: Creating a Character Skin Guide | Creating a Weapon Skin. Sounds like something that’d be super hard, but it’s actually quite easy, barely an inconvenience! Hey, you might even get a chance to participate in one of the Community Skins competition in the future!
Closing Thoughts
We are very excited to get these and other massive changes we have been secretly working on your hands. We are also excited to seeing you play and receiving your feedback! Let us know what you think about these changes in the comments below, and keep an eye out, we barely scratched the surface of what is to come…

We hope you have a lovely day or night,

~ The Soulstone Team
