The First Descendant has "decided to make adjustments" to "barely-changed" Destiny 2 icons

Last week, Destiny 2 enjoyer-in-public Paul Tassi of Forbes wrote an article pointing out the similarities between The First Descendant’s in-game icons and those used by Bungie’s multiplayer looter shooter. Nexon have since reached out to Tassi, saying they’re taking the concerns seriously, and will make adjustments so that the imagery "clearly reflects the unique identity" of their Warframe-Destiny hybrid GaaS shooter.

Despite its 'mixed' user rating on Steam, The First Descendant has racked up over 10 million players in its first week

In the 1980s, British pop star Shakin' Stevens had a string of hits with what was essentially an Elvis Presley impersonation, leading the Chart Music podcast to nickname any poor man's incarnation of another pop star the Shakin' version. Tori Amos, for instance, is Shakin' Kate Bush...

Nobody is very happy with The First Descendant, but it's still managed to hit 10 million players in a week

The First Descendant hasn't exactly had the smoothest of starts, but that hasn't stopped it from racking up 10 million players in seven days.

It's been very up and down for The First Descendant since it launched earlier this month. In a strong start, it gave Elden Ring a run for its money on the Steam charts, an impressive feat given the recent release of Shadow of the Erdtree. Things kind of went downhill from there though, with many players deriding the game's monetisation systems, and accusations coming out that the game had lifted barely-altered Destiny 2 icons. The game is currently sitting at a "Mixed" rating on Steam, but even with all of those problems, that hasn't actually stopped people playing the game. According to the game's official Twitter account, the game reached 10 million players "in just 7 days!"

"Thank you all for your tremendous support and love," the post continues. "It means everything to us. We will do our best to bring you great experiences. Can't wait to continue this journey together!" It's kind of odd phrasing, as it says it hit 10 million players in seven days, but doesn't say which seven - the tweet was posted July 12, but the game was released on July 2, which, if my maths is correct, is 10 days. This really isn't worth getting hung up on, but it does tickle me a bit at the very least.

The First Descendant will change its in-game icons following accusations that it swiped them from Destiny 2

Several days after players noticed that numerous icons in The First Descendant are very similar to ones found in Destiny 2—and in some cases, virtually identical—Nexon says it will make changes to ensure the imagery "clearly reflects the unique identity of our game."..

The First Descendant devs respond to allegations they copied a bunch of Destiny 2 icons

From the moment of its release, players have been calling out The First Descendant for how much, inspiration, it takes from other popular loot shooters. The two most commonly cited examples are Warframe and Destiny 2.

While much of what TFD borrows from Warframe is limited to mechanics and some of how it handles crafting and character building, the Destiny 2 comparisons extend the design of in-game icons. After players pointed out how several icons bear more than a passing resemblance to ones found in Destiny 2, developer Nexon has responded.
