[h3]Dat Deffkopta 'az warmed da 'earts ov you'z gits, it 'as[/h3][p]What a great response to last week's reveal of the new vehicle. We think you guys will have a blast playing it 🚁[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]You don't have to wait long, because the Deffkopta is coming in next week's Orktober patch, along with a couple new maps: Scrap in Da Yard for Kill Konvoy, and Deff Gorge for Deff Rally.[/p][p]More on that later...[/p][p][/p][p][/p][h2]ORKTOBER [/h2][p]Now, with that great news comes some unexpected news, which is that the upcoming LEVEL EDITOR has been delayed to instead launch in another big update for November. We felt this was the right choice since cloud Workshop support wasn't going to be ready for next week, and there's still some polish things we'd like to add to the editor, which we think the community will really appreciate.[/p][p][/p][p]Now, some of you gits might be thinking "Why doz dis matta to a speedy, smashy, krumpy git like me dat just speedily smash's and krumps ova gits?"[/p][p][/p][h3]Well, my mean and green friend, a level editor with a shared Workshop means that there will be lotz and lotz of new, community-made levels to play with each other - and if what we've seen so far from our testers is any indication, there will be some INSANE maps.[/h3][p][/p][p]And if you're the type of git who likes to make maps, even better.[/p][p]Our testers and us devs have had some amazing sessions of a host creating maps in realtime, while others played them as they were being built.[/p][p]These play sessions can turn into absolute lunacy, especially when in voice chat together.[/p][p][/p][p]For example, this was the beginning of a silly level we started making as a team in realtime.
But this is nothing compared to how much more you can do with the editor.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]So yeah, as we've said before, we are super excited to share this feature with the player base and can't wait for you guys can see what people build - either right in front of your eyes while playing, or by downloading it from the Workshop.[/p][p][/p][p] [/p][h2]DA MAPS 🗺️[/h2][p]Alright, wot about sum more info on da update next week ya?[/p][p]We've got two new maps, one for each Kill Konvoy and Deff Rally.[/p][p][/p][p]Kill Konvoy - Scrap In Da Yard takes place in a - you guessed it - massive scrapyard. There's moving scrap everywhere, lots of verticality to take advantage of, and a massive trench in the second half which leads to a big scrap dump for the final stretch.[/p][p]We think this is one of the best Konvoy maps yet, and we think you'll agree once you play it a couple times 👍[/p][p][/p][p]It's also got a spooky secondary lighting version:[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Deff Rally - Deff Gorge is a DR version of Kill Konvoy - Da Gorge, after a snowfall and the area has been somewhat abandoned. The level's alternate lighting is quite striking having a sunset contrasting with the snowy ground.[/p][p]Gorge makes for a great race playground, and you'll see what we mean when you play it. There's also an area that has players race through a forest, a first in Speed Freeks.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][h2]DA MUSIC 🎵[/h2][p]Any proppa git likes a badass tune, and our resident musicians Cave Bat have created a fantastic new tune for the main menu, so you can jam out while customizing ridez and checking stats.[/p][p]Really happy with how this song turned out, so we're eager to see what da freeks think of it.[/p][p][/p][h2][/h2][h2]DA STEAM DECK[/h2][p]Just a quick note about steam deck, is that we've seen a severe issue reported where performance will drop to 0-3 fps for periods of time - we're assuming due to shader compilation.[/p][p]This is strange because it seemed to have starting happening a couple months ago, either after one of our patches (where we didn't change anything related) or a Steam OS update.[/p][p]We're investigating the issue and will try to have something done for next week's update but we can't promise anything at this time, since although we can reproduce it, it's difficult seeing what the cause is.[/p][p][/p][p]We'll keep you Steam Deck users up to date on any fixes for this. DEFFKOPTA GOES BRRRRRRRR

[p]Deff is comin' from above on ORKTOBER 23rd![/p][p]The Deffkopta is by far the most unique vehicle in the game now - it's really different, and awesome to fly. We've been having a proppa time zipping around the maps and using it in the much improved Creation Mode, which is also coming later this month.[/p][p]We can't wait to get the vehicle into your hands so you can do the same.[/p][p][/p][p]Today we reward you patient gits with some teasers of the Deffkopta in action[/p]

[/p][p][/p][p]As we've said before, the Orktober 23rd update will be the biggest the game has ever seen, and our next post we'll be revealing the new LEVEL EDITOR in Creation Mode[/p][p][/p][p]Some testers have already been creating wild race courses that we never thought we'd see in the game, so we're really pumped to find out how the broader community uses these tools. My favorite new Warhammer 40k game is getting a map editor for Orktober

The older I get, the more convinced I am that Orks are the best Warhammer faction. They make great enemies (think Space Marine 2), and even better protagonists (Shootas, Blood and Teef). They're the most fun faction to play on the tabletop, and converting up a fleet of looted Deff Dreads is one of the best hobby experiences I've ever had. I'm not sure why it took me so long to check out Warhammer 40k Speed Freeks, then. The chaotic racer made its way to PC earlier this year, and is now implementing a map editor ahead of a big Orktober update.

[h3]ORKTOBER IS COMIN'![/h3][p]"Wotz da big guff, ya git?" [/p][p]Orktober is when we start dropping details about our massive update coming for Warhammer Day in late October🤘[/p][p]Stuff like:[/p]

[p]This will probably be the game's biggest update yet, and will mark a time where Speed Freeks is the bestest, most greenest, most Orkiest game that ever Orked - and will be the best version so far.[/p][p]We're really excited to get it into your hands, and not just saying that as a standard PR thing, we really want to see what people do with the Creation Tools. There's already some pretty wild community made Kustom Rally races out there and we've only had a handful of people engage with it.[/p][p]Once you'z get the real tools, it will open up a wealth of possibilities. Like we mentioned last time, this is the first Warhammer game ever to have level building tools like this. MAKE GORK N' MORK PROUD, LADZ![/p][p][/p][h3]LEADERBOARDS[/h3][p]It's been a long time coming, but the issues with posting scores to the leaderboard have now finally been addressed, and the leaderboards have bee fully reset, so now the records on there will hopefully be more accurate moving forwards. Plus, this gives all players the chance to get their name up high on the boards now ːsteamthumbsupː[/p][p]We wanted to do this work a while ago, but it needed to sync up with some backend data stuff that has just been finished (multiplayer games be hard, y'all), so now that it's done we can have lasting leaderboards.[/p][p]if you still notice issues though, please mention to us and we'll get onto addressing them[/p][p][/p][p][/p]

New Race Mode 🏁 + Level Editor Coming

[p]This is an exciting time for Speed Freeks, because we're on the verge of releasing some level editing tools that will allow you to place structures, platforms, ramps, jump pads, decorations, VFX, etc in maps and then run races through them.[/p][p]Races will be played through the new Kustom Rally mode, either solo or multiplayer 🏁[/p][p]It's gonna be so cool 🤘[/p][p][/p][p]You'll have assets like these to build whatever you want, races up towers, through obstacle courses, off huge jumps, etc. All decorated the way you think an Ork like you would do it![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]You can imagine the uniqueness and creativity will be so much higher, and we're so pumped to see what you gits come up with 💪[/p][p]We'll be adding our own creations to the game as well to be installed with the Creation Tools patch.[/p][p][/p][p]And as far as we know, Speed Freeks will be the first Warhammer 40,000 game to include level editing tools like this where you can build custom structures and things from scratch. Very Orky :)[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Before jumping into the rest of this blog, we thought it would be right to address the big squig in the room - which is that the game has a player count problem. We're well aware that there's not as many gits ingame these days as we would have hoped, and we're working to remedy that fact with enticing new content, as well as promotional pushes where we can.[/p][p][/p][p]To those of you who are just joining us now, or have stuck with the game through even a fraction of its development, we thank you so much for krumping with us. [/p][p]This patch comes with some developer-created courses included, but you can also share/download races here in the[/p][p] Steam Discussion Thread or on the SF Discord in the #kustom-races channel. See the pinned posts for instructions 📌[/p][p]We're currently working on cloud integration to allow easy uploading, browsing, and sharing of community creations with ease, so that's something to look forward to as well![/p][p][/p][h3]CREATION MODE 🛠️ (BETA) [/h3][p]As mentioned, we'll soon be introducing level building tools to the game that will allow players a ton of creativity in making stuff. [/p][p]In the meantime, we've still got the same functionality as before with Free Roam, except we've renamed the mode to Creation Mode as it's more fitting. Keep an eye on this mode for juicy updates 👌[/p][p]Here's some bug fixes to the mode as well:[/p]
  • [p]We've added a distance marker to the active waypoint for better communication.[/p]
  • [p]When playing custom races, the subsequent waypoint preview now has a different icon in addition to being yellow instead of green, and the finish line waypoint is now red.[/p]
  • [p]There is now a finish line and a start gate, and player movement and abilities are frozen until the race starts.[/p]
[p]Once the adding creation tools are in the game, we'll continue to improve them for more functionality and customization. Super pumped about this feature![/p][p][/p][h3]MODIFIERS ☣️[/h3][p]These used to be part of early access as limited time modes, but now players can enable them when creating a new lobby.[/p][p]It's surprising how much they can change the feel of a match ːsteamthumbsupː[/p][p][/p][p]Here's the available mutators:[/p]
[p]Dakka Frenzy (Deff Rally)[/p][p]Higher fire rate and lower cooldowns = MORE DAKKA! [/p][p][/p][p]Bomb Rush (Kill Konvoy)[/p][p]Many more bombs are spawned during play. Let the explosive chaos begin![/p][p][/p][p]Random Vehicle[/p][p]A random vehicle is chosen for you every time you respawn[/p]
