Avernum: Escape From the Pit News

We have launched the Kickstarter for our next game, and we're thrilled to finally return to the world of Avernum! Avernum 4: Greed and Glory will be an epic, indie, turn-based fantasy role-playing adventure for Windows, Mac, and iPad. It continues the saga of Avernum, a nation in caverns far under the world, full of misfits, adventures, treasures to be found, and monsters to hunt (and that hunt you).

It will be a remaster of the indie RPG cult-classic Avernum 4, which came out way back in 2005. The original is a massive RPG, full of skilled warriors and wizards using a multitude of weapons, spells, and artifacts to conquer an enormous world. It is old and doesn't run well anymore. We will completely rework everything to make a great, modern game.

The Kickstarter will run until October 16th and comes with a huge variety of stretch goals and backer rewards. You can get all sort of merch, including stickers, hand-drawn original art, and the original, signed, annotated designs from our first game (back in 1994). We humbly ask for your support as we take this mostly-forgotten game from our past and rebuild it as something really cool.

Geneforge 1 - Mutagen is now out for Windows & Macintosh! It is the first game in a new epic series from Spiderweb Software. It's a unique, truly open-ended fantasy role-playing adventure in a strange, new world. Over 80 zones to explore and 50+ hours of gameplay. Multitudes of skills, abilities, factions, treasures, and servants to create.

Geneforge 1 - Mutagen is a full remaster of our cult-classic indie hit Geneforge, released in 2001. The new version has been completely redone. Every encounter, every item, every line of dialogue. There are new regions, quests, artifacts, skills, and storylines.

Greetings from Spiderweb Software! So, there's a project we've been working on. We first started thinking about it five years ago. We started it for real two years ago. We've put in countless hours building it from the ground up. At last, it's almost done, and it's a ton of fun.

So ... What is this game about?


You are royalty of the mighty empire of Haven! Your mother the Queen rules, while you enjoy a life of sheltered luxury. Then, one morning, you wake up to find yourself banished to your Empire’s lost colony. You mother has declared your childhood at an end. Your mission? Prove yourself by reconquering Haven’s rebellious vassals, or don’t bother to come home.

At last, you have been given wealth, magic, soldiers. The Queen thinks you will submit and join the family business. Now that you have freedom and power, you might have other ideas ...

Explore an enormous outdoors and a multitude of towns and dungeons. Fight clever, carefully designed turn-based battles. Meet three different fierce nations and deal with them with bribery, diplomacy, or (if you choose) violence. Build new forts and customize them, choosing among upgrades that give your adventurers powerful bonuses.

To win the Queen's favor, you must rebuild your lost colony. Will you be a diplomat or a warrior of Empire? Obedient or rebellious child? It will be up to you. But beware ... Whatever path you try to take, the temptations to turn away from it will be cunning and constant.
