Added: Just like Dailies, there is now a Monthlies mode for longer term bragging.

Added: You can now prestige your Profile Level, raising the level cap by 1 and increase all Profile XP by +10%.
Added: The ability to randomize the song. (Setting unlocks after you've beaten a run, make sure it doesn't clash with other binds you have set.)
Added: ANTILAG autoscaling system that grows stronger if your FPS starts to dip. The higher the number, the more unnecessary details are removed.
Added: Quick Restart, unlocks after you've beaten a run.
Added: Some new stats in the Death Screen.
Added: Borderless Windowed option.
Added: Mute If Focus Lost option.
Added: A new auto upgrade option to automatically choose an option if all three are already owned.
Added: A new auto upgrade option that makes it prioritize the HIGHEST.

Added: You can now see if your run is Flawless by looking at the Tab Menu mid-run.

Change: Tons of various performance enhancements.
Change: You can now play Overdrive scaling up infinitely, getting more and more skill points.
Change: Dailies/monthlies now have a max 30 skill point limit, to make some of the other changes non-destructive to the gamemode integrity.
Change: The game will better acknowledge that you've got the maximum experience and are at the max profile level, and ready to prestige (if you want).
Change: Passives can now go down to 1% instead of capping at 20% minimum.
Change: Made Gamepad aiming feel less garbage.
Change: The damage stat on the sidebar midrun is replaced with an 'average' DPS, total damage is still present in the endscreen.
Change: Some bosses have less health.
Change: Some bosses have more health.
Change: If you have seen the true ending, the main menu music will now always be changed to the alternate theme.
Change: Just like the final boss, all bosses will now automatically reduce your weapon visibility and then return it to the default after the fight is over.
Change: Newly purchased upgrades move to the bottom of the list, to make them easier to see in situations with lots of upgrades.
Change: Statues will now show their contents at a much further distance.
Change: Flawless boss kills without the use of blackholes are 'True Flawless'.
Change: Exploding Enemies modifier no longer spawns bullets on death, rather the AOE effect itself is what can hurt you.
Change: Exploding Enemies explosions get slightly smaller per chain reaction, to avoid multiplicative scenarios.
Change: Added an indicator circle for when the Demon boss will teleport.
Change: Since the Amnesia perk has been made redundant, it's been dealt with appropriately.
Change: Memory USBs will now appear in the loadout as long as you have 1 kill on the boss that drops them. This should fix any issues people have had with them missing/skipping them accidentally or killing two bosses for the first time in one run.
Change: Undying Horror Ghost will no longer be obscured by anything.
Change: Enemy Immortality frames upon spawning are now influenced by GameSpeed.
Change: By default, ‘Auto Upgrade at Full Build’ will now selectively choose upgrades that are the lowest of the three, to make your entire build more rounded and even.
Change: Lowered intensity of 2x GameSpeed visual effect.
Change: Dailies no longer make HTTP requests to get timezone data.
Change: Tab Menu stats will draw over chosen upgrades and banned upgrades.
Change: Children of killed Skull parents spawn with less immortality time.
Change: Fixed a bug where the Daily would say you have already attempted it, even if you hadn't.
Change: Fixed the Canister misspelling.
Change: XP Cans can now be picked up by Parasights with the appropriate skill.
Change: Fixed XP Cans sometimes not having XP_MOD applied to them.
Change: Removed move speed Worm and Biker get from bonus speed that Cyl gets.
Change: Statue of Discipline now costs Blackholes, and can be used multiple times.
Change: Statue of Potential can be used 3 times.
Change: Magnets pickups will also check to see if XP Cans exist to see if they should be spawned, instead of just XP drops.
Change: Grenades be added to the pickup pool if the player is near a statue.
Change: Curse doesn't increase Boss HP as much.
Change: Monthlies and Dailies will tell you if you've got debug cheat mode on.
Change: Statues should 'slow down' at a further distance.
Change: Droid Enemy bullet speed halved.
Change: Sniper Enemy bullet speed halved.
Change: Droid Enemy bullet lifetime doubled.
Change: Sniper Enemy bullet lifetime doubled.

[h2]— - Stat/Upgrade Adjustments:[/h2]
Nerf: (The most important change to know, so I’ll put it here first!) Halo no longer blocks bullets, just contact damage.
Buff: Solenoid Infusion now gives +3% XP Radius instead of +1%.
Buff: Skull Crushing Distance scales with bosses killed.
Buff: Gimmiko Dice scale with bosses killed.
Buff: XP dropped by bosses should be much higher.
Buff: Turret turn speed is now influenced by Proj Spd.
Buff: Turret firerate increase, 15 CD > 10 CD.
Change: Turrets will aim at the nearest enemy to you, instead of themselves.
Buff: Core now gains +1 damage per version.
Buff: Ultrabuster now gains +1 damage per version.
Buff: Headphones damage increase, 15 > 20.
Buff: Headphones knockback increase, 0.5 > 1.
Buff: Soul Spear damage increase, 45 > 50.
Buff: Soul Spear knockback increase, 2 > 3.
Buff: Soul Spear cooldown decrease, 2 > 1.5.
Buff: Static Satellite damage increase, 40 > 50.
Buff: Dagger Glove knockback increase, 1.5 > 3.
Buff: Dagger Glove damage increase, 45 > 50.
Buff: Demon Horns range scaling increase, 2*version > 4*version.
Buff: Demon Horns knockback increase, 4 > 6.
Buff: Demon Horns damage increase, 100 > 125.
Buff: Hunter's Bow knockback 0 > 2.
Buff: Parasight knockback, 0 > 0.5.
Buff: Parasights can latch onto people better the faster it moves.
Buff: Parasights will now stay latched onto an enemy until it dies, no matter what.
Buff: Yoyo speed increased overall.
Buff: Walkman projectiles last twice as long.
Buff: Walkman projectiles speed up after hitting something.
Buff: Increased Snowglobe damage to 40.
Buff: Snowglobe cooldown from 4 seconds to 3 seconds.
Buff: Snowglobe is bigger by default.
Buff: Increased Plasma damage to 40.
Buff: Plasma Globe cooldown from 4 seconds to 3 seconds.
Buff: Increased Static Satellite damage to 50.
Buff: All frost slow effects last 2 seconds longer.
Buff: Elemental Crystal also increases Status Effect duration now.
Nerf: Overdrive levels now increase XP gain by 8% instead of 20% per level.
Nerf: Angel Wing Knockback, 8 > 6.
Nerf: Connect Call has been charged to Dial Tone, causing all XP to be magnetized towards you AFTER a boss kill rather than before.
Nerf: Reduced Flamethrower Flame hitbox.
Nerf: Flamethrower has 30% chance to ignite, instead of 50%.
Nerf: Crit Explosions no longer deal damage twice to the enemy that caused it.
Nerf: Telecom explosions can no longer trigger from C4 explosions.
Nerf: C4 damage adjusted from 5 + (3 * version) to 10 + (1 * version).
Nerf: Parasights damage reduced from 30 to 25.
Nerf: Parasights move slightly slower.

[h2]— - Fixes:[/h2]
Fix: Statue of Gamble's price and the amount it took were not aligned properly.
Fix: Leech Education can't proc when the game is slow/paused.
Fix: Fixed an issue with pausing the RPG memories on gamepad.
Fix: Clicking on a USB in the loadout screen will save your current selected skills.
Fix: Hopefully made it so that Autoupgrade wont pick a 'Nothing' upgrade if it appears.
Fix: Parasight showing it scaled with Cooldown when it didn’t.
Fix: Some weapons weren't being influenced by Weapon Transparency.
Fix: Fixed a bug where Crit Explosions would apply their damage to Telecom every time.
Fix: Fixed a bug where damage wouldn't be added to the stats if it killed the enemy, only if it 'hit' and left them alive.

[h2]— - VM or YYC?:[/h2]
Picayune Dreams runs on YYC, which is an export option in Gamemaker that cranks some extra performance but makes things a bit more 'locked down'. There are other very popular Gamemaker games that run on VM, and so some modding tools have been built around that. We'll be adding a VM build as an optional 'opt in' build in the betas setting after a few days have passed and any issues that arise with this big release are fixed - so keep your eyes open for that if you'd like to run that version for whatever reason.

Stepford here, and I've come to share some bad news. The content for the update is about 90% complete. We could probably reach 100% completion by the date I set in the last post, but we haven't had any time to playtest it. I just know there is gonna be some bug that'll totally cause computers to explode and stuff, so I just don't feel comfortable shipping it the second its ready, so I'm asking for more time. The new release date is going to February 20th, which will give us time to playtest as well as polish some rough edges. If you have any questions about the update, feel free to ask below and I'll try my best to answer them. ːNekoː

365 Days



It has been 365 Days since we put out Picayune Dreams. It's been such an amazing year. The best year of my life, even. It's a dream come true. Anyone who has been following our socials will know that we won the Gamemaker awards - Game Of The Year, which is all thanks to you.. its crazy unbelievable!! I wanted to make a post about that earlier when the trophy arrived, but it still hasn't. I think they had to take a bit of time getting it assembled, but its on the way and I'll make another post showing off pics when it gets here. Sorry about that! ːdos2skullː

Andyl4nd and Milky have been working hard on Endacopia, and I (Stepford) have been chipping in with a few coding bits over there. He put out this teaser, announcing that the game wouldn't be releasing this year - but to look forward to 2025! You should check it out:

Where is the Picayune Dreams update!?

It's still being worked on! Since this is our first time making a game and releasing it to be sold, it's been a learning experience. I think it's been the first year of my life where I felt like I wasn't constantly gluing leaking pipes or running from an upcoming bill to pay -- but Picayune is still on my mind all the time, 24/7. When I'm in the shower, I push my head against the glass and imagine what I need to add or change or what people are saying online.

I'm drawing a line in the sand. Unless some horrible computer exploding bug pops up, the update will be out on January 31st. Perfect is the enemy of great and I want to release this to all of you. Mind you, if it does need to be delayed, I'll poke my head up to let you all know. Sometimes shit happens, there are still some screws that need tightening; so I hope you all won't be too angry if that happens. But a fire under my ass and some brewing excitement towards a specific goal date is exactly what I'm hungry for!

Hello! It's me, Stepford! I'm writing this newspost with good news! We are one of the top five nominated games for "Best Game" made using Gamemaker for 2024.



This is super awesome, and it's not something I could've imagined while making the game. I can't put into words how grateful I am for everyone who has played our game, I seriously couldn't ask for a better community. ːGunfireRebornloveː

The next stage of the Gamemaker Awards is all five of the games going against one another in a poll, which is where I need to ask for your help! Here you can see all of the entries, and there's three different categories. We are competing for the Best Game, and that's where you will find us.

You can click VOTE NOW! either on the bottom of that blog or right here and you'll be taken to a Google Form where all of the votes are being tallied. If you could head over there and chuck us a vote, it'd mean the world. ːSpRad_Rockː There's also other categories for the Most Anticipated Game and Best Gamemaker Tool, so if you recognize any of the entries in those you should def give them your support. ːsteamhappyː

[h2]WHERE IS THE UPDATE!?[/h2]

The update is still being worked on, but it's shaping up to be something I'm really happy with. There's a huge number of quality of life changes I can't wait for you all to get your hands on.
- You can now see if your runs are 'flawless' by holding tab.
- Quick Restart.
- Save backups.
- All bosses automatically reduce weapon visibility like the final boss.
- A bunch of fixes to the canisters relating to their XP amounts and modifiers.
- Adjusting dialog speed setting.
- Borderless window mode.
- Mute On Focus Loss setting.
and a bunch more stuff that makes the game that much better.

Another cool change is all of the settings that would help with lag prevention (lowspec, lategame autopickup, etc) have all been REMOVED and now there is a universal [ANTILAG] variable that will increase or decrease to try and keep you at a stable framerate. That way you can start off every run with the game looking great and only have things get reduced/removed when the game requires it, instead of having to toggle them yourself when the time feels right. And the game has had a big optimization pass done on it.

You can also play Overdrive infinitely if you so wish, with the Max 5 cap being removed to allow you to continue earning more and more skillpoints. This means that people can compete with one another and really push the game to its limits, I did however put a 30 skillpoint cap on competing in Dailies, so that high ranking Daily players don't feel obligated to make it to Overdrive 74 or whatever just to keep up with one another.

Another cool feature is people who have seen the alternate ending will be rewarded with Freeplay Mode, which makes a bunch of the debug functions easily accessible.



And this isn't mentioning the new weapons, skills and bosses I'll be adding with the update. It's gonna be sweet, I just feel bad it's taken so long! If there's anything else you'd like to see added, you're welcome to post them in the comments down below.
