Dev Blog #3 - New Arena Mode!

Hola, Gatekeepers! Wishing you a Happy New Year! May 2024 bring you all the best🌲

Today let's talk about arenas and the new Gatekeeper Arena mode in particular, which we aim to deliver in Q1 of 2024.

The mode consists of rounds of various duration and your only goal is to not get killed. When the timer ends and all the threats are eliminated, players receive rewards and proceed to another round. Sounds simple enough but don’t be tricked by that - the place is limited but the enemies amount is not.

We have developed a completely new and distinct enemy spawn mechanisms and different enemy progression curves (both are less forgiving than in the main game). Siren’s spawn was also reworked and on the arena there is no limit for their quantity and they may appear randomly, bringing more chaos to the gameplay. In addition, on arena we are not limited to monsters being an integral part of residential planets, so more enemy combinations are possible.

Like this was not enough, we also made several random events that may happen (or may not) during the arena rounds, creating spikes of difficulty. We would definitely want to not spoil your discovery process, but I can at least advise you to always watch your step and keep looking at the stars.

Regarding the lore - the events take place on a previously unseened planet of Aridune, infamous for its savage and ruthless habitants. Arenas of Aridune attract the most brutal creatures of other worlds to compete in this deadly challenge.

Hope you guys enjoy reading that at least as much as we enjoyed making this mode!

P.S. Of course the mode supports co-op, so teammates are welcome! Hope with the new lobby browser system, it will be much more convenient to find other Gatekeepers!

Thank you,
Gravity Lagoon

Release Roadmap 🚀
Hey, Gatekeepers!

Gatekeeper: Infinity prologue has been released and we are happy to unveil some of the team’s plans for the first months of 2024!

A new game mode
this particular mode revolves around holding your ground in the hostile arena of Aridune, facing hordes of foes and striving to survive even more rounds. Notably, the only friendly elements on Aridune are you, your teammates, and a sandwatch (okay, the sandwatch is rather neutral).
New items & item reworks
Items are crucial to gameplay, and their variety significantly shapes the game. Imagine an item that creates a vacuum hole, instantly eliminating everyone? It might sound unbalanced, but that’s precisely what we're aiming for! It's not just about the items themselves, the ways you acquire them will be reworked too. No more shops that disguise as obelisks.
New gatekeepers
We are focusing on introducing 3 new characters, each with their distinctive and unique traits, pros, and cons. We'll share more visuals and details as they take shape!
New planets, locations, and enemies
Currently, we have two planets - Aurora and Celestium, each with its unique set of enemies and locations. We're expanding to include two new worlds - Aridune and Purgatory-17, each with at least 3 different locations, 8 types of new enemies and a Siren.
Points of interest
Thanks for noticing the Witness' eye, indeed, we plan to leverage that and introduce other interaction points to make locations feel more meaningful and detailed.

Other improvements are on the horizon, including a lobby browser and the ability to ping items/enemies. While these quality-of-life improvements didn't warrant their own section, they're still worth mentioning.

We hope you enjoyed reading this update and, more importantly, that you'll appreciate the new content in the game! Share your thoughts in the comments here or in our Discord server.

Wishing you a merry Christmas and an amazing 2024 🎄

Thank you,
Gravity Lagoon

New sci-fi Diablo style roguelike unveils explosive support mage class

Upcoming Steam roguelike game Gatekeeper already has my attention, and its next class looks like the most fun addition to the roster yet. Following the launch of free prequel game Gatekeeper: Infinity, this new co-op game blending the sci-fi stylings of Risk of Rain and the explosive top-down combat of Diablo 4 gives us a look at Pandora, the next addition to the list of Gatekeeper classes.

If you, like me, are basically always hungry for another fast-paced horde shooting roguelike with crazy items and combos to build, I've got great news. Upcoming roguelite shooter Gatekeeper is just that, and it has a pretty dang generous free demo slash prologue version out now that's fully-featured enough to include cooperative gameplay...

Devblog #1 - Meet Pandora!

Hello Gatekeepers!

As we get closer to the release of Gatekeeper, we've accumulated a pretty solid amount of things we'd like to share with you.

While the team is working hard on polishing the game and fixing bugs, let's talk about one of our new playable characters - Pandora.

Being a talented mage in her own world and having sacrificed herself to save her kind, she was summoned by the Creators to protect the Heart of Time.

Greatly relying on her ranged skills, Pandora is surely a burst damage character. Just have a look at those amazing abilities:

Every enemy was severely harmed while we were recording this gif

Having less HP compared to other existing gatekeepers, her additional "dash" skill creates a healing circle (teammates will definitely appreciate that).

Don't want to spoil the discovery part for you, so we hope you'll enjoy exploring other skills, their evolutions (for Eclipse players - yes, now you can evolve skills), and various kickass builds.

Pandora went a long way through design & development process, the idea was there since the very beginning and it was always about skills usage. Initially, she dealt extreme damage with long cooldowns, but watching people play, we noticed it's just boring to roam around waiting for skills to refresh. Later on we cut the cooldowns as well as skills damage, but, as we noticed during our closed playtest it eventually brought Pandora too close to our another character - Hybrid. So after several other iterations looks like the perfect balance is achieved.

Hope you folks enjoyed reading that and will enjoy playing Pandora even more!

Gravity Lagoon
