Crash Test Buddy Patch

Hey, KitHackers!

We're happy to announce a new patch that adds new content to the game alongside a range of bugfixes and quality of life updates. Check out the notes below to find out more.
CHARACTERS
• Meet Buddy, your new Crash Test Companion. He's ready to jump into that dea-- erm, worthy vehicle you just built. He's clearly nodding in approval.
SCENARIO EDITOR
• Added several new Props to the Scenario Editor: including full-size buildings, cargo containers, large ramps and track parts
GAMEPLAY
• The game now supports headtracking via TrackIR.
  • Fixed not being able to interact with parts in the Inspect Vehicle view
  • Fixed a softlock when spectating on a remote vehicle that gets sent to the Vehicle Editor.
  • Fixed Under the Radar mission progress state conflicting with the Downward Dive mission.
  • Fixed spent Solid Rockets not causing the vehicle to be considered refuelable.
  • Tweaked damping for autotrim roll axis (to make it damp more at higher speeds)
  • Increased the server/client clock sync message frequency to 5Hz (from 1), for less noticeable corrections in time-based systems.
PARTS
• Fixed mirroring for the Structural Pylon Part
  • The Structural Pylon part no longer has a stack node, but has a new bottom surface node.
  • Fixed soft-lock caused by a missing bulkhead profile for the Headlight parts (when attaching to an adaptive fuselage).
  • Clear plastic material is now much clearer, for improved visibility from FPV.
  • The basic wooden beam parts are now shape-tweakable.
  • Added two new basic wooden parts: Round Dowel and Flat Plate, both also able to morph.
  • Added new Large 2-bladed Propeller.
  • Added new smaller, flatter Battery.
  • Battery masses and capacities adjusted for more consistent mass ratios across all models.
UI
• Added a new menu [F9] that allows switching various different vehicle system visualizations: including Aerodynamics, Internal Stresses, Volumetrics, and more.
  • Updated thumbnails for Starfinder, HMS McBoatface, MudMog and SeaFury stock vehicles
VEHICLE EDITOR
• Added new Drivetrain category.
  • The CV Joint part now lives in a subcategory of its own.
  • Suspension parts are now categorized as 'suspension' instead of being under 'transmission'
  • Organized the parts under Propulsion, Drivetrain and Undercarriage a little better.
  • Fixed an issue where morphing symmetry counterparts could be moved out of position when tweaking the shape in the Vehicle Editor.
  • Re-linking a compound part (struts, CV Joints) now shows a message if there are no eligible parts to select (instead of leaving the game in a softlock state)
  • Added new control hints when a Part Selector operation is in progress. (re-linking struts/joints, Root tool, placing Action Figures)
GRAPHICS
• Fixed a glitch with ocean foam during floating origin shifts.
  • Disabled an unnecessary bright light that was lit in Internal View.
  • Fixed Internal View not working while the vehicle has collision safety (after spawning or releasing)
  • NPC Traffic should now move more smoothly when MP if the server/client clocks are running at different rates (ie if either one is lagging)
SCENERY
• Fixed violently shaking trees in the main menu.
  • Removed submerged trees around southwest-most area of the map.
  • Fixed LOD glitch with the beige 'fishtail' parked cars.
  • Adjusted placement and scale range for palm trees around the map.

Hotfix #4 - v1.0.4

Hi,

I'm happy to say that Patch 4 is now live. This update contains yet more bugfixes, this time mainly related to surface physics and wheels, as well as some more part-related fixes and improvements.

Here is the changelog:
PHSYICS
• Changed collision detection method for the local player vehicle to prevent it clipping through terrain.
  • Landing Gear FreeWheel modules now support the Zero-Length Suspension system the Wheel Hubs have.
  • Fixes several cases where aircraft had their wheels partially sunken into terrain.
  • Fixes some aircraft models not being able to taxi or steer properly on the ground.
PARTS
• The Adaptive Fuselage now correctly handles cases where the meshes would have turned inside-out.
  • Fixed bulkhead fuselage context buttons spawning the old fuselage adapter.
  • Fixed two blade boat prop rotation direction and blur.
  • Fixed 3 blade prop spinning direction and blur not appearing.
STOCK VEHICLES
• Changed the description of the Commandney Smidgeon, to point out how wildly out of balance it is.
  • Adjusted the placement of landing gears on the Commandney Widgeon
UI
• Vehicle preview images no longer get downscaled with the texture downsampling setting in Graphics Settings
  • The chat input panel is now a bit wider
SCENERY
• Went over the entire road network on Wirraway Island, smoothing out the bumpy old pavement.

It's now been a full month since the game went live, and we've been doing hot-fix patches every week. We've definitely made lots of improvements, but this pace isn't great for making larger additions to the game, which we really want to get started on.

So after this patch, we'll be slowing down the pace of the builds a little bit, so we can better focus on bigger goals, that wouldn't fit into a one-week schedule.

Workshop Wonders #2

Hey KitHackers,
Recent Hotfixes
Before we dive in to your genius creations, we just wanted to make you aware that we've been working hard to improve your experience week by week and have made a significant number of alterations to the game! See the three hotfixes we've carried out since launch here - Hotfix #1, Hotfix #2, Hotfix #3.
Workshop Wonders #2
Now, on to the community! We're back once again with our second series of Workshop Wonders. This edition sees a plane made from a mis-match of garish parts that perfectly meld together to make a well oiled flying machine, and a hybrid boat-submarine that you really don't want to cross paths with (we'll give you a clue - duh dun, duh dun, duh dun!).

We've linked to the Workshop items below, so you can try them yourself right now! Thank you for submitting your incredible creations to the Workshop, we love taking them for a spin, so please don't stop uploading!

Hotfix #3 - v1.0.3.1002

Hey KitHackers,

Our third Hotfix is now live! Please see a list of updates and changes below.
Vehicle Editor:
• Fixed vehicles not responding to inputs while in the Vehicle Editor.
  • Added a new Reference Line to the Aerodynamics Overlay.
It shows the ideal graph for a chosen handling preference and can be configured in the Aero Overlay settings dialog (gear button above the graph).
  • Decal handles now take on the colour of their decal, and show the decal image on themselves.
Steam Workshop:
• Fixed an issue that caused some subscribed Vehicles to not appear on the list.
Parts:
• Added a new OD0-II procgen adapter part,
now made with better fabrication processes and next-gen materials, to achieve EXACTLY the same look, but with 10x less effective shell thickness! Tremendous mass reductions, and only slightly more expensive! (original model discontinued)
  • Fixed an issue with decal UV mapping on the adapter fuselages (both old and new models).
  • The Pontoon part now defaults to the Aluminum material by default.
UI:
• Added a button to Delete vehicles in the Craft Browser panel.
  • Improved how the Aerodynamics Overlay's menu handles out-of-rect clicks for dismissing itself.
  • Fixed the orientation of popup dialogs when the view is tilted wrt the horizon.

We will continue to hotfix as we improve the game, so please stay tuned for further updates. Happy KitHacking!

Hotfix #2 - v1.0.2.966

Hi Everyone,

Patch 2 is now live. This is another hotfix update to address the most pressing issues found during these first two weeks of Early Access.

We've got a number of general improvements, and most importantly, another considerable set of optimizations!

Here is the changelog:
Vehicle Editor:
* Fixed incorrect calculation of vehicle dimensions
* Added information about dimensions and part count to the Stats Toolbar details panel
Steam Workshop:
* Added a screen to allow configuring Tags before publishing a vehicle to the Steam Workshop.
UI:
* Fixed incorrect layout of several expanding tooltips in the Vehicle Editor
* Fixed non-appearing tooltip for the Aerodynamics Overlay button.
* Revised the text of several expanding tooltips, replaced mentions of keyboard controls with proper dynamic glyphs.
* Fixed incorrect layout of configurable inputs on several parts' context menus.
* Decal handles are now slightly smaller.
* The Chat Input text field no longer accepts linebreaks, as they caused unwanted breaks when submitting if the caret wasn't at the end of the text.
VFX/Graphics:
* Made the overdraw (dotted lines) of the Vehicle Editor ground plane more transparent against the vehicle.
* Fixed visible sky flickering when moving from light to shadow areas while looking up.
* Reduced the density of underwater fog.
* Reduced pop-in artifacts of vegetation.
* Fixed imposter LODs of parked cars around the map being visible on top of the higher detail LODs.
NPC Vehicle AI:
* Untasked NPCs will now at least maneuver to avoid terrain instead of burrowing headlong into it.
Audio:
* Fixed random popping sound in the Main Menu
* Environment ambience is now correctly controlled by the Environment volume slider.
* Road Traffic noises are now controlled by the World volume slider
* Vehicle Wheel skid sound is now controlled by the Vehicle volume slider
* Wheel skid sounds are less loud overall.
* Adjusted level of gas engine start/shutfown to better match the level of the idle sound.
* Adjusted the curve for engine load/rpm parameters so engines audibly rev up when accelerating.
Missions:
* Added additional hints to Glider Gold, and standardized the style of notification messages.
Performance:
* New terrain shading setup, significantly reduces baseline memory usage.
* The Vegetation system is now more efficient at releasing memory.
