About the Line
The Senseki Line connects Sendai City and Ishinomaki City in Miyagi Prefecture. Like the Saikyo Line, the Senseki Line is characterized by the use of ATACS security equipment in some sections. From Aobadori Station to Hon-Shiogama Station, the line runs through a bedroom town of Sendai; from Hon-Shiogama Station to Tona Station, it runs along Matsushima Bay with Matsushima, one of the three most scenic spots in Japan, at its side; and from Tona Station to Ishinomaki Station, it runs through a rural landscape.
The Senseki Line, which runs along the coastline, was severely damaged by the earthquake and tsunami that struck on March 11, 2011, and the entire line was closed.
The line between Rikuzen-Otsuka and Rikuzen-Ono stations, which are located in low-lying areas and were particularly severely damaged, was relocated to higher ground inland and resumed full service on May 30, 2015, four years after the line was closed.
