Dev Update #2 - Settlement building, updated characters and new key art

Hi again! 👋

Wow, can't believe it's been one month since our last dev update. We certainly haven't been idle during this time, and have a ton of stuff to show. Gear up, let's cut to the chase and show you what's new in Oppidum! 👇

[h2]A NEW FACE FOR THE GAME 🎨[/h2]

Let's start with something major. Oppidum has a fresh, new key art! Look at it, it's simply fantastic! Our illustrator really outdid himself with this one. If you've been following us on our social media you've probably been able to take a good look at it already.

You can see four people (maybe yourself and three friends) up and ready to explore Insule. They seem to have reached their destination. What could that structure on the distance be? 👀 There's still a long journey to get there, though, and some dangers in the way.

[h2]BUILDING OUR SETTLEMENT SYSTEM ⛺[/h2]
So, we've mentioned a journey and dangers along the path. But what good is any journey if you don't have a place to actually return to? That's right, we've made huge progress to the settlement building system! This will be you and your friends' home base. At your settlement you will rest when you need to, build crafting stations to set up your gear, store your goodies as well as tend to your crops and animals.



There will be plenty of time to spend on your settlement, if it fits your playstyle. Either crafting new gear for you and your squad mates, baking some treats to boost your abilities or upgrading your stations to reach even higher limits. Of course, you will have to acquire the blueprints needed to build and upgrade your stations by progressing in the story and exploring the world.



[h2]MEET THE CAST 🐰[/h2]
And now that we've mentioned the story and the world of Oppidum, let's jump to our next topic. We've already talked about Insule, the beautiful open scenario for our adventure, and some of its locations. On our previous dev update, we showed a glimpse at Litore, one of the main settlements in the island. Let's take a moment to talk about its villagers. They are part of a unique species native to the island, and not so long ago every one of them looked like this:



Cute, but we can't have them all looking the same! We've been hard at work revamping the key NPCs, giving each of them a unique makeover that truly reflects their personalities. From the sassy blacksmith to the patient librarian, you will meet a diverse cast of characters that will make the story feel truly alive as they guide you through it. Take a look at how gorgeous they look!



What do you think? What's your favorite one? They will be present in the story, so you will get to meet them and choose. Can't wait for you to get to know them!

[h2]OUR FAMILY KEEPS GROWING 🤝[/h2]
The Oppidum community is growing, and we can't end this update without a shotout to the wonderful people that have already joined our Discord, who have been chatting and theorizing about what Oppidum has in store for all of you. It's wonderful to have the support of our future players, and we can't wait for the family to keep expanding.

[h2]EVEN MORE STUFF TO COME 🍃[/h2]
That will be almost all for today. Almost. Phew, ain't too bad for just one month, huh? We've also been making some other adjustments to the game, and progressed in some other really important aspects. For example, the armor sets are almost ready, and we can't wait to show them in full detail. Here's a quick peek at how some of them are looking currenty:



Multiplayer functions are well advanced in development too, so it will be very soon when we can show you some examples of it in action. We've done a few in our social media videos before, but it will look even better next time you see it 😉 And obviously, let's nor forget about the story and questlines that are being written and integrated into the game. We can't spoil too much of it, but look forward to them!
