Dev Update #4 - Dressing up the world of Oppidum
Hey scouts!
It's been a while since we updated you on the development of Oppidum. We're very happy to say it's all coming along nicely, and progress has been getting surreal!
These past weeks, we have been getting up together to play the most recent builds of the game, and we're having a lot of fun. It's really interesting to see how each of us play Oppidum and discover it from the point of view of a player 😁 let us know if you'd like us to share some moments from these gaming sessions! Obviously, there will be no spoilers 😉

Let's talk about what we've been focusing on recently. It's actually a pretty long list, but we wanted to talk a bit about how we are getting the world ready to look the part. Or, as we like to call it, 'dress up the world'.

Up until this point, you've mostly seen Insule as a lush island, filled with forests, rich in resources and wildlife. But that's not all there is to the island. At all!
If you played the demo or have been watching our videos on social media, you've definitely noticed the ruins scattered around the world.
So far, this has been a hint of the story that's behind the island, but we've always intended to take this up a notch. Insule is not just sprinkled with history, but brimming with it.

This is not only important to give you the proper sense that you're stepping on some ancient land, it also gives you landmarks.
These ruins can be seen from a distance, they might look inviting or challenging.
We want you to spot them from afar and wonder to yourself what kind of secrets might be hiding there. Level design for a mostly open world can get tricky, and this is one of the ways we approach it!

Of course, this also serves some storytelling purposes. Insule is not just a place of ancient history, but also modern. It's interesting to see how the current inhabitants of the land interact with its past, don't you think? 😉
