Gameplay Patch 3 (4/5/2023)

Hello Crew!

We've been carefully observing players as they learn the mod, and in addition to a heap of bugs which have been found, we've also come to the conclusion that there are some serious pain points within the mod. These changes look to alleviate some of those pain points.

We've also managed to shave off around 1 GB of Black Reliquary's file size via image compression and optimization in certain areas. This should hopefully help out players on lower end system, that struggle to load in some of the chonkier animations.

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
  • Fixed issue where Levantine Firewalker's "Pressure Malfunction" had an "Ignore Riposte" icon
  • Fixed issue where Guard-break debuffs were cure-able
  • Fixed issue where Grave Robber's "Poison Darts" was unable to apply the blight from Overgrown Setar's blight buff
  • Fixed issue where Flagellant didn't always heal for 100 Stress while in the Fighting Pit
  • Fixed issues where certain upgrade texts referred to the Stage Coach instead of the Ferry
  • Fixed issues where certain Veiled Skills had their tooltips cut off
  • Fixed issue where Essence of Malignity didn't count for the Contraband Collector quirk
  • Fixed issue where Grim Tambourine's bleed amount didn't scale properly with difficulty
  • Fixed issue where Tyrant's Fingerbone halved all bleeds on prep round, not just the ones applied by the trinket
  • Adjusted some tooltips on certain tutorial, curio, and quirk descriptions to be a bit more clear
  • Fixed issue with Troglodyte Cultivator's "Ear Burster" was not able to crit, and his "Spiny Lash" was able to crit
  • Fixed issue with Painwarden and Harrier's night skills being usable in the day when exiting the game
  • Fixed issue where Levantine Pursuer's "Airborne Assault" monster skill info didn't say the skill could hit pos 1
  • Fixed bug where Umbral Rosary's Stress Healing Received debuff affected camp meals more than they were supposed to
  • Fixed issue where Cleric Errants would freak out on prep round if there were only three of them in a group
  • Fixed issue where Amber Core Dredge's Heat Gauge had certain assets missing when the Dredge was walking at max heat
  • Updated a bunch of character animations to have an "fxdot" bone, which should help people out who are getting crashes on skills like "Pressure Malfunction" and "Fill the Air"
  • Fixed issue where Hexer would bluestring bark when force-interacting with curios due to his Affliction
  • Fixed issue where the Cactonid Verterephile's "Slobber" had an unusually high chance to target the most stressed heroes in Veteran and Champ
  • Fixed issue where the Veteran Sandwurm's "It Feasts" had a damage range of 31-41 instead of
    21-41
  • Fixed issue where Foreign Archaeologist paid out significantly less for Amber, and significantly more for the other relic types
  • Fixed issue where Lost Friar's "Flee the Masses" had no sound
  • Fixed issue where Levantine Sniper's "Volatile Impact" had no sound
  • Fixed a handful of issues where enemies were spawning with/without prep round buffs when then weren't supposed to
  • Fixed a bunch of typos

[h3]Hero Changes[/h3]
  • Grave Robber's "Pick to the Face" DMG mod has been decreased to 0%
  • Highwayman's "Unparalleled Finesse" has had its DODGE and SPD buffs halved to +5 DODGE, +2 SPD
  • Leper's "Reflection" Stress Healing has been reduced to -15
  • Occultist's Riposte DMG buff vs Eldritch has been increased to +30% DMG

[h3]Dredge Changes[/h3]
The Dredge has been underperforming, especially while in her mech suit. We're buffing her mech skills a bit to give her that extra "oomph" that she's been lacking. We've also buffed a couple of her trinkets, but those changes will be listed in "Trinket Changes"
  • "Pillar of Steel" no longer pushes targets, instead it now buffs the Dredge's DMG by 12/14/16/18/20% for 3 tns
  • "Pillar of Steel" is now usable from Pos 3, and moves the Dredge forward 1
  • "Pillar of Steel" now has a base ACC of 90 instead of 85
  • "Wyrd Conflaguration" now has a base ACC of 95 instead of 90
  • "Prismatic Doom" now has a base ACC of 95 instead of 85
  • "Gleaming Drill" now ignores PROT
  • "Gleaming Drill" now has a base ACC of 90 instead of 85
  • "Amber Annihilation" now has a base ACC of 95 instead of 90
  • Dredge now moves "Back 2, Forward 1"

[h3]Caverns Changes[/h3]
Caverns quests are still a little long, we're making some adjustments here to make it so players have less fights required to beat them. We're also making some slight Caverns-specific balance tweaks to Amber, Sand Charmer Spawns, and the Primeval Tablet.
  • Caverns Cleanse Missions now only require 90% of Room Battles to be completed
  • Caverns Explore Missions now only require 80% of Rooms to be explored
  • Increased the overall connectivity of the Caverns quest generation. This should make it so there's slightly less backtracking overall
  • Sand Charmer's Spawn rate in the Caverns was a bit lower than average due to the number of fights in the Caverns being higher compared to other regions. We've increased it slightly so you're more likely to find him here
  • Scouts gained from Primeval Tablets now have twice the scout range in the Caverns due to their shorter hallways and many rooms
  • Slightly reduced Amber gained from Curios in the Caverns

[h3]Alraune Changes[/h3]
Small adjustments to the veteran Cactonid bossfight to make her more manageable and to prevent crashes that people were encountering.
  • Alraune now marks the rank where she will use "Matchmaker"
  • Alraune uses "Matchmaker" 3 tns after she marks the rank
  • Alraune's "Matchmaker" can no longer miss
  • Happy Couples are no longer able to be damaged, meaning the player is now required to kill the Alraune to get their heroes back

[h3]Janissary Changes[/h3]
Small adjustments made to make it so heroes are more reliably able to weather Janissary's onslaught, and overall just to make the RNG in the fight a little less impactful
  • Janissary's "Duelist's Surge" no longer applies a bleed
  • Janissary's Riposte now has a 120% chance to apply a 4/3 tn bleed
  • Levantine Snipers summoned by Janissary can no longer use "Volatile Impact"
  • Levantine Rakshasas summoned by Janissary can no longer use "Reave"
  • Janissary's CRT on his main attacks has been lowered by 2%

[h3]Monster Changes[/h3]
Certain values displayed in apprentice/veteran/champion format
  • Most Cactonid enemies now have a higher chance to attack marked targets (before all Cactonids ignored marks when targeting heroes). Notably, stressor Cactonids are not affected by this change, they will still prioritize the hero with the most stress in most cases.
  • The Cactonid Supterpath no longer surprises the hero party
  • The Cactonid Necrobiote's "Tendril Sprouts" can now target heroes in pos 1+2/2+3/3+4
  • The Cactonid Necrobiote now only uses "Tendril Sprouts" during the prep round
  • The Scout Buzzer's "Buzz Blast" no longer debuffs the target's Stress Received
  • Wildlander Raptor's "Pierce the Ranks" has had its base DMG reduced by about 25%
  • All of Wildlander Raptor's non-prep round skills have had their base DMG increased by ~5%
  • Wildlander Raptor's "Sudden Squall" and "Headwind" are no longer able to crit
  • Bone Rabble's "Undead Swipe" can no longer attack Pos 4
  • Bone Rabble's "Undead Swipe" can now crit (it couldn't before)
  • Troglodyte Breaker's "Bash 'em" base DMG has been reduced by ~10%
  • Troglodyte Swarmers now only heal for 50% of their Max HP when using "Swarm!"
  • Troglodyte Cultivator's "Strength of the Carapace" has had its Restoration Amount reduced to 2/3/4
  • Charmed Occultist now has a lower chance of targeting the Sand Charmer when using "Desert's Embrace"
  • Charmed Occultist's internal cooldown on "Desert's Embrace" has been increased to 2 tns
  • Yngolian's Cosmic Alignment now has a high chance to cause chip stress to party

[h3]Trinket Changes[/h3]
  • Essence of Malignity now gives -75% Stress Healing Received
  • Article of Amberblight's Chance to give Amber Symbiosis has been increased to 33%
  • Blasphemous Vial's Restoration now only lasts for 2 tns, but has had its Restoration Amount and Amount Scaling doubled to 4 (+2 Per Diff)
  • Anti-Organic Focal Array has been updated to:
    Omnitool Pistol: -10% DMG
    +10% Blight Chance vs Marked Targets
    On Omnitool Pistol Hit: Blight Target: 4/3 Rounds (100% Base, +20% Chance and +50% Amount per
    Diff)
  • Particle Tether Module has been updated to:
    Omnitool Pistol: -5% Crit
    +10% Move Chance vs Marked Targets
    On Omnitool Pistol Hit: Pull Target 2 (100% Base, +20% Chance per Diff)
  • Eldritchfire Capacitor Bank has been updated to:
    Omnitool Pistol: -20% Dmg
    +10% Debuff/Mark Skill Chance vs Marked Targets
    +5% Crit vs not Human
    On Omnitool Pistol Hit: Debuff Target: +15% Dmg Received if not Human (100% Base) (+20% Chance per Diff)

[h3]Misc. Changes[/h3]
  • The cost of curing diseases in the Clinic has been reduced by 33%
  • Champion Long Missions now give 2 Very Rare trinkets as a reward
  • Reduced the Chance of the Supterpath trap spawning in the Treasury to 20% (was 33%)
  • Trinket Warnings should now occur on Apprentice missions (this may also affect the tutorial quest, but there's nothing we can do about it)
  • Rabid Extract now debuffs the enemy party for "-5% CRT, -5% ACC" for 3 tns
  • The Purveyor now accepts the Sand Charmer's gems
  • Adjusted the Flameseeker's Relic bar to be spaced out a bit more so currencies don't start clipping into each other when they get to 3 or 4 digit values
  • Crew Trinkets now have a sell value of 1 Gold
  • Updated sounds for the Carrion Hive
  • Added Glossary descriptions for Vestiges, Day/Night quests, Frantic, and all usable provision items, specifically the ones that appear only in-dungeon (Amber Residue, Perfumer's Needle Extracts, etc.)

Gameplay Patch 2 (3/27/2023)

Hello Crew!

We're just squashing some more bugs! We'll likely ease up on updates for a short while after this one.
We're also including our Crew Trinkets! These are usually included upon the release of major patches, but we had to delay adding them this time around due to time constraints.

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
  • Fixed bug where Raider's Talisman only gave 1 tn stealth instead of 2 tns stealth
  • Fixed Carrion Eater not having an fxdot bone
  • Fixed Waxen Penitent's Alum Censer interaction only buffing your minimum DMG
  • Shieldbreaker's Riposte is now Mystical (counting this as a fix)
  • Fixed all instances of Critting during Prep Round
  • Fixed issue where Levantine Terpsichorean was not lifelinked to the Janissary
  • Fixed crash that occurred when the Snail killed a hero


[h2]New Crew Trinkets[/h2]
  • Added 6 new crew rarity trinkets. These trinkets are included as a tribute to our closed testers and are not gained through normal means, as we don't intend most players to use them

Gameplay Patch 1 (3/26/23)

We're making some balance adjustments to the early game based both on some of the feedback we've received and our own observations.
We're also squashing a couple of bugs that've already been found since release.

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
  • Adjusted Veiled crit buff to use correct buff source (no longer has prep round icon)
  • Adjusted Placement of Amber Dust Icon in Flameseeker Summary Bar
  • Fixed bug where Apprentice Wildlander Hellion had Veteran-level SPD
  • Fixed bug where Wildlander Hellion's "Wreck" didn't have a negative crit modifier
  • Fixed bug where Wildlander Bombard's "Ballistic Thunder" didn't have a negative crit modifier
  • Fixed bug where Cactonid Aspiciac's "Chilling Stare" did twice as much Stress Dmg as intended
  • Fixed bug where Bounty Hunter's "Flashbomb" debuffs lasted 4tns instead of 3tns
  • Removed some more Triple Swarmer mashes from the Caverns
  • Fixed some more Typos

[h3]System Changes[/h3]
  • The first two Ferry Heroes are now guaranteed to be a Vestal and a Crusader
  • Retreating now has a 80% chance of succeeding and on fail, the chance increases by 10% (was 70% with chance increasing by 5%)
  • Heroes can now only get Diseases in the post-quest screen if they are Resolve Level 3 or higher
  • Starting Gold has been increased to 10000 (was 8000)
  • The Tutorial Quest gold reward has been increased to 7500 (was 5000)
  • The chance to get a negative quirk on a successful mission with 100 stress has now been capped at 40% (was 50%)
  • Adjusted some more in-game descriptions

[h3]Hero Changes[/h3]
  • Antiquarian's "Festering Vapours" is now Mystical
  • Shieldbreaker's "Captivate" is now Mystical
  • Shieldbreaker's "Expose" no longer deals bonus dmg vs stealthed targets
  • Shieldbreaker's "Expose" now targets positions 234

[h3]Caverns Changes[/h3]
Certain values are displayed in short/medium/long format
These changes affect all difficulties
  • Caverns missions now have 1/2/3 less rooms
  • Caverns missions now have an average of 1/1.5/2 less room battles
  • Caverns missions now have an average of 1/1.5/2 more hallway curios
  • Caverns missions now have 1 less max hunger tiles in all lengths

[h3]Monster Changes[/h3]
Certain values displayed in apprentice/veteran/champion format
  • Most Reposition moves can no longer crit. (This affects skills exclusively used to reposition enemies that are out of position)
  • Levantine Thaumaturge's "Hermetic Laceration" can no longer Bleed the target
  • Levantine Champion's "Skull-Smash Dash" no longer Bleeds the target
  • Troglodyte Pterotillus' "Skybound Swipe" no longer buffs the user
  • Wildlander Hellion's "Steel Falcon" now has a 1rd internal cooldown
  • Reduced Wildlander Bombard's SPD by 2 at all difficulties (now 8/10/12)
  • Reduced base DMG for Wildlander AoE moves (Ballistic Thunder, Wreck, Arsenal Flurry, and Fletched Salvo) by ~20%.
  • Increased DMG scaling for Wildlander AoE moves by ~25% (this means that Champ Wildlanders still do the same amount of damage)
  • Reduced Cactonid Verterephile's Slobber's Stress Dealt to 11/13/15
  • Yngolian and Sand Charmer now have counters to full-party stealth cheese

[h3]Misc. Changes[/h3]
  • Adjusted the Training Hall upgrade costs so that the first level of skill upgrades is a little cheaper and the final upgrade levels are a little more expensive (now 25/92/165/243 Valor Marks)
  • Hippocratic Quirk now gives an additional +20% Restoration Amount Applied
  • Bad Healer Quirk now gives an additional -20% Restoration Amount Applied
  • Legendary Bracer Trinket has received a buff
  • Essence of Malignity Trinket has been reworked to be less abusable

Black Reliquary is now out on Steam Store!

Hello Everyone!

Here's some answers for a few questions we've seen and anticipate seeing over the Early Access launch of our mod.

[h2]1. What is Black Reliquary?[/h2]
Black Reliquary (BR) is a total conversion mod for Darkest Dungeon (DD). It overhauls almost the entirety of the game's content and reinvents most of its mechanics and systems.
[h2]2. When will BR be released?[/h2]
It will be released on 24th of March, 2023
[h2]3. When will BR be out of Early Access?[/h2]
When it's ready (we mean it)!
[h2]4. Is Darkest Dungeon required to download BR?[/h2]
Yes, as well as the Shieldbreaker and Crimson Court DLC on Steam.
[h2]5. Why is BR in a Bundle?[/h2]
The mod will be obtainable as a bundle that also includes Darkest Dungeon and two of its DLC: Shieldbreaker and Crimson Court. This is done in such a way as to check for the ownership of all the necessary content. The mod itself is free, and so will be the bundle if you own all the other content, and all profits from purchases of this bundle go directly to the Red Hook.
[h2]6. When will BR be translated to x language?[/h2]
We plan on adding the translations after the 1.0 release.
[h2]7. Will BR have a steam workshop?[/h2]
Not at this time.
[h2]8. Can I mod BR?[/h2]
It is possible, but the game has been so heavily modified that we do not recommend you do this. Do at your own risk
[h2]9. Can I use Darkest Dungeon mods on BR?[/h2]
Vast majority of mods made for DD will not function properly in BR. Only do this if you know what you're doing.
[h2]10. Will I be able to play on my old BR saves?[/h2]
Unfortunately, no. The Steam store edition is considered an entirely different program than the original and cannot share files between each other.
[h2]11. I opened BR for the first time, and there are already several saves already started? What's going on here? [/h2]
This is a result of BR storing its save data in a different directory. BR stores its save data where non-steam versions of DD store their saves.
Any pre-existing saves are a result of you creating a save in a non-steam version of Darkest Dungeon. Be careful, opening existing saves in BR or opening BR saves in non-steam DD is extrememly volitile.
[h2]12. I opened BR and all the text is a teal mess- what do I do?[/h2]
This can happen when you own a non-Steam version of the game prior to the Steam version and selected a language other than English. The mod currently does not support other languages, so the solution is to select English in the game's options. Once you have done so, restart your game.
[h2]13. I have the mod on Linux- why do all the add-ons look the same?[/h2]
Unfortunately this is out of our control, due to how Darkest Dungeon handles non-Windows editions. You are able to enable these add-ons by selecting the one at the top, however it forces ALL add-ons to be active, which will include a photosensitivity mode that drastically adjusts the game's visuals.
[h2]14. I ran into a bug, what should I do?[/h2]
Alongside the Steam Discussions, we also have an official Discord server for Black Reliquary, where we often check for bug reports and feedback on the mod.
[h2]15. Can I use assets from BR for my own mods or games? [/h2]
This depends upon a few factors. The majority of content was created originally by us, but some content still belongs to Red Hook. We do not allow public releases or unauthorized edits of our assets (private/ unshared assets are allowed), but content created by Red Hook remains their property.
[h2]16. Do you have social media accounts?[/h2]
We have a Discord server, a Twitter page, and a YouTube channel.
[h2]17. This soundtrack is cool, where can I download it?[/h2]
