Patch Notes 97: TERA Goes 64-bit

Look out! The next major update is headed your way: patch 97 brings the upgrade to 64 bits that will massively improve the stability of the game client!
In addition to that, there’s a host of new content and items for you to discover. This includes a brand-new raid dungeon for 20 players, scrolls for changing equipment options, and the Rift’s Edge and an improved RK-9 Kennel will be opening their doors again. Please note that some of the names in these patch notes may differ from those in the final release.
New System Requirements
Let’s start with the most important news: with the switch to a 64-bit game client, the system requirements will change.
Warning: As we already stated a few weeks ago, TERA will no longer support 32-bit systems from this point forward. Players with older, 32-bit versions of Windows will therefore no longer be able to launch TERA.Here’s how to check your version of Windows:
- Start Menu > “Control Panel”
- Navigate to “System” (sub-item “Info” depending on the version)
- Alternatively, use the “Windows key + Break” keyboard shortcut
The system requirements change as follows with patch 97:

- Please note that the game directory will take up approx. 65 GB following the patch. However, additional space is needed to perform and run potential future updates. Additionally, the size of the update from patch 95 to 97 will be greater than the difference of approx. 13 GB, as many unused elements will be removed and existing ones will be modified.
64-bit Improvements at a GlanceThe improvements below are the advantages of the new client highlighted by the developers:
- Unreal Engine 3 update
- No immediately obvious changes to the graphics, but improvements for future new graphics
- The 64-bit client allows more than 4 GB of RAM to be accessed
- The vast majority of RAM client crashes should thus become a thing of the past!
- DirectX 11
- Graphics can be rendered by multiple processor cores, which will improve game performance and stability
- Asynchronous loading
- Various elements in TERA will now load independently of one another
- For example, there should no longer be brief freezes while interface elements load (e.g. when you open your inventory)
- Character and background elements
- The reduction in the number of polygons will accelerate the transfer of character and background elements
- This will result in fewer frame drops caused by lengthy loading
- LOD (level of detail)
- LOD settings have been added to the most visited zones in TERA so that the number of frames calculated is reduced while the graphical level of detail remains high and clear.
- This maintains the nice background graphics without causing unnecessary calculations that affect the performance of the client
- FPS controller
- This patch introduces a new slider to the options, which allows you to set the game’s maximum frame rate between 24 and 300 FPS.
- Loading UI elements
- As part of the update, various elements of the game’s interface are loaded one by one instead of causing the game to visibly freeze when opened.
- This may cause a window that you are opening for the first time after a client restart to be transparent for a second until all elements have been loaded. When opening the same element repeatedly, this should no longer be the case; once everything has been loaded, opening any UI element is lightning-fast.
Overall, you will see a more powerful game client after this patch, which is able to use your PC’s hardware more efficiently, offering you a better gaming experience.
